Fresh Start Fever

Hitchin' A Ride

Leilani's POV:

*1 week later in New Zealand*

I sat nervously tapping my foot on the floor beneath my seat on the plane. My stomach churned as the plane reached higher altitudes and my ears popped making my hearing impaired. This was my first time on a plane and knowing I had to get on one at least two more times on this tour made me want to puke. Mike must have noticed how uncomfortable I was because he placed his hand over mine steadying myself from drumming on the arm rest. I looked up at him in the seat next to me and he simply smiled sending my nerves running and putting me in heaven.

"How are you even real?" I whispered in awe but blushed in embarrassment when he laughed at me.

"What?!" he pushed out between bursts of laughter.

"Never mind," I turned away to stare out of the plane window and squeezed my hand out of his in order to ignore him.

"Aw baby don't be like that!" he pouted over my shoulder and tried to turn me around to face him. I shrugged him away.

"Don't laugh at me," I hissed.

"It's not what you said I just don't believe you really think of me like that. I mean the look of complete admiration upon your pretty little face is unbelievable! I'm really nothing special but you look at me like I'm the entire world to you," he confessed. I turned in my seat to face him again.

"That's because nothing or no one matters more to me than you do right now! I've been so lucky to get this job and meet you and everyone of the guys and get to experience different places and to top it off I get to do it with you and my best friend. If it wasn't for you on this trip I'd be so bummed and out of it after the fight with Austin and what happened with Bryce. It's surreal how happy you make me Mike. Whenever I'm around you I forget about Cole and Bryce or every other bad thing that's happened in my life. You're so perfect, " I unclipped my seatbelt so I could lean up and place a soft peck on his gentle lips. I pulled away and sat back and smiled once again at Mike, whose face was now full of wonderment.

"I couldn't have put it better myself. I mean about you, you're perfect! Not me!" he rambled. I shook my head at his awkwardness.

"Well you're perfect for me silly," I giggled up at him.

"You're so corny," he laughed. Before I could tell him to shut up a loud dinging filled the plane and the seatbelt light signalled before my head. I put it on scarcely and my nerves came flooding back to my stomach.

"Mike is something wrong? Are we going to die?!" he laughed again at me and shook his head.

"No we're landing," he explained.

"Oh.. Already?" he nodded.

"Well we've been on the plane for like and hour and a half now so yeah. It doesn't take that long to get to NZ from Aus," he chuckled. I playfully slapped him for laughing at me, again, and in a quick ten minutes later we were on the tarmac and heading to the baggage pick up area. We stood in the terminal waiting for our luggage to come around on the conveyor belt when screams amplified throughout the airport.

"Fans," I heard Phil mutter from behind me while the rest of the guys sighed. All the guys from both of the bands loved their fans but they were tired, I felt bad for them. I turned back to walk away to the other side of the belt so I wasn't left uncomfortable when the fans asked for millions of photos but not before Austin and I were locked into an intense and awkward eye contact. He smiled making it harder to look away but I had to. I broke away and walked away. I watched on as the fans screamed and cried and hugged all the guys getting photos and getting numerous inanimate objects signed. I noticed mine and Mikes' bag so I tried to lift them off the belt. I struggled with one let alone the other and sighed in defeat knowing I'd have to wait until they came around again.

"Need some help with that pretty eyes?" a squeaky voice that I easily recognised asked making me jump at the nickname. I turned quickly and saw Dee's bushy brown curls surrounding her beautiful, olive skin. I pulled her into a tight hug and she squeaked a little.

"Deeanne! You're here, you're really here!" I pulled back trying not to jump around the airport.

"Yep!" she popped the 'p', "Can you believe it? I'm free, we both are!" she caught me up on all the gossip from the inside while we waited for the fans to clear out.

"Red's in the wet room. She attacked a warden with a shitty knife she made by sticking a razor blade to the back of a toothbrush," I felt bad for her as much as I hated Red, the wet-room was a cold, empty room where you were fed once a week. It wasn't nice, lets leave it at that.

"That woman is going to get herself killed in there," I empathised.

"Who is?" Mike sounded in the background. I turned to face him and dragged him by the hand to stand next to me.

"Oh no one don't worry," I shrugged it off. Mike knew about what Cole did to me but not what I did to Cole and I wanted it to stay like that. "Anyway Mike, this is Dee and Dee this is Mike, my boyfriend," I introduced them. Dee's eyes went wide.

"He's cute! I like him already," she laughed almost giggled in fact, as if she was flirting. Then she winked at him. What the fuck.

"At least someone does," he sighed but Dee and I shrugged it off.

"Well Dee's a close friend of mine and she's helping me and Tarni in the tent for the next two weeks of tour," I explained to Mike he just nodded as he stared deeply at Dee, strange. Both of them walked beside me as I talked, one one either side of me, as we walked towards the car outside the airport. The automatic doors slid open as we walked closer and the brisk, icy air slashed across my exposed skin. Clearly my Ramones cut off tank and denim shorts with stockings was not the appropriate clothing to wear to New Zealand in the winter.

"Here," Mike slid off his jacket and gave it to me as if the cold didn't effect him at all. I took it from his rough hands and slipped it on. It was like a dress on me but I was thankful of its warmth. I inhaled the smell of his spicy cologne and it automatically had me longing for his touch. I looked up to smile at him and steal a kiss but him and Dee were still fiercely staring at each other. I let out a huff and stormed off in front of them and jumped into the drivers side of our new rental Jeep for the length of our time in New Zealand. Slowly but surely, all smiles and laughs, the two jumped in the car. In the back together. I growled lowly beneath my breath. Mike hadn't even noticed they're flirting was annoying me. I saw Austin walking towards the car parked in front of us but I had other plans. I rolled the window down and stuck my head.

"Aus!" his head turned abruptly to look at me shocked that I was even talking to him yet alone calling him by my nickname I'd given him. He then proceeded to look behind him as if I was talking to someone else and I shook my head laughing.

"Come ride with us, you wont have to drive," I smiled widely. He shrugged his shoulders and walked over and jumped into the seat next to me. He looked at my jumper and knitted his brows together. I shrugged it off and slammed it into Mike's chest behind me.

"Ow!" he whined.

"Oops," I rolled my eyes as I retorted sarcastically and turned back to face the wheel. I started the engine and it roared. I pumped the heater as Austin typed in the address of our hotel and I stared to drive. Alan following close behind us.

We'd been driving for only half an hour but it felt like five. Mike and Dee flirting the whole time while Phil sat uncomfortably next to the pair. Austin eyed me every time I'd stare back in the rear view mirror at the two. I was so excited to see Dee and now she's practically making me sick to the stomach.

"Hey," Austin whispered. I quickly looked at him and then back at the road, "Don't worry about them," he lulled only quiet enough for me to hear. I nodded.

"I'm trying," I hissed unintentionally through gritted teeth.

"He wont do anything to hurt you. He's smarter than I was," he confessed as he dropped his head.

"Aus," I sighed, "don't say things like that. You'll make me feel bad," I admitted.

"Don't. I blew it," he looked out the window at the passing scenery. I wanted to reply but I had nothing to say and Mike's voice irritated me the more he spoke to Deeanne.

"That's a nice tattoo on your thigh there love," Mike traced his finger along the outline of her large mermaid tattoo as I squinted my eyes to glare at him in the mirror.

"Love," I mimicked in a high pitched tone. I saw Mike's eye flick up to the rear view mirror to look at me, which was the first time since he'd met Dee. "Oh he finally pays attention to me!" I spat. Austin turned the radio down and Phil shifted in his seat. If only they had popcorn to watch the show that was about to unfold.

"What the fucks wrong with ya pretty eyes?" Dee piped up. As if she didn't know.

"Don't call me that!" I hissed. Austin reached out and clenched softly on the top of my thigh trying to calm me down. He knew I hated the name. Unfortunately Mike noticed.

"Don't fucking touch her!" he yelled making me flinch. Austin's hand pulled away immediately and my leg felt naked. Stop, push it aside you're with Mike. For now until he gets sick of you, the voices ran through my head.

"Don't fucking flirt with my friend!" I shrieked as I accelerated, now more eager than ever to get to the hotel.

"Lans stop speeding," Austin cooed. I shook my head and pushed my foot down on the pedal again.

"Leilani fucking stop being an idiot before you kill us!" Mike yelled only pushing me to go harder.

"What's it matter the faster I go the quicker you can get into the bedroom with Deeanne!" I saw her throw her hands up in the back seat as if to say she had nothing to do with it.

"We're just talking pre-" she corrected herself, "Lei," I backed off the accelerator.

"Just talking my ass," I mumbled to myself. Austin's phone buzzed. He answered.

"Yeah sorry Alan just speed up a little to catch up," he paused while Alan talked, "no it's all sweet man," he paused again, "all right see you there," he hung up the phone. From there the rest of the drive was silent and awkward. I just couldn't wait to get back to the hotel and be ignored all night.

The thought of Mike losing interest in me so quickly stung my heart especially when only just under two hours ago we were talking about how perfect we were for each other and now he can't take his eye off another girl, his hands for that matter. What itched at my skin more than anything though was knowing that while I was staying in my own bed in the Of Mice room, Dee would be in the Pierce The Veil room, with my boyfriend.
