Fresh Start Fever

Running Scared

Leilani's POV:

I stormed out of Austin's hotel bedroom, I closed the door and rest my forehead against its coldness. I felt burning in the back of my head alarming me of the eyes that were staring at me. I turned around to see all of the guys and Tarni gaping at me.

"What?" I rolled my eyes not wanting to tell them of tonight's events.

"Fighting like an old married couple already?" Phil joked.

"I think you have to be a couple to fight like one," I sternly retorted.

"Do you want to talk in Alan's room?" Tarni empathized. I nodded and she stood up from the couch as we walked into the other room. I laid sprawled across the floor as Tarni sat cross legged on the bed facing me. I thought momentarily about what to say.

"I don't even know what's wrong Tarni, he wont explain anything to me. I'm so confused. I don't even want to come on this tour any more but Michelle said because the request was approved for me to work I have to stay, it's parole conditions," I blurted everything out. Well not everything entirely.

"Did you do anything to piss him off?" I shook my head.

"No I asked him if I did and all he said was 'You certainly didn't do something' or something along those lines," I recalled.

"So you said something?" she questioned.

"Well that's what I thought he meant but if he did he wont tell me what I said," I sighed.

"Did you's you know?" she tried to ask without being rude. I nodded and she sighed.

"I knew it Tarni, I knew I shouldn't have opened up to him. Now he knows everything and I look like an idiot," I agonized. Tarni jumped from the bed and wrapped her arms around me.

"Lans, don't say that! You're not an idiot, you thought you found someone you could let your guard down around. It's not your fault he played you, god he even fooled me into thinking he really liked you especially when he asked me to come find that ring for you," she looked down at my hand and so did I. Just an hour ago I'd thought I'd never take it off and here I am sliding it off my finger and it already felt bare.

"I should go give it back to him," she nodded and pulled away from the hug as I stood up. I pressed my hand to the cold metal handle of the door and turned it but as I did I heard a scurry of footsteps behind it. I pulled the door open swiftly and saw the boys, minus Austin, running back to the couch.

"We weren't listening!" Tino yelled. I laughed.

"Oh yeah I bet," I smirked as I walked to Austin's door.

"If it's any consolation Austin's a dick," Phil reassured me.

"Yeah you don't do that to a broken chick," I scoffed at Tino's remark.

"I'm hardly broken!" he rolled his eyes as I opened the door to Austin's room without knocking. His head lifted from his phone to look at me.

"Thought I was a dick," he mocked Phil.

"You are," I fumed, "but I have to give this back to you," I held my fist out and uncurled it revealing the gorgeous ring. Austin shook his head.

"Keep it," he sighed.

"Why would I?" I retorted, "Tell me one thing Austin, what was the point of it. Of it all, the ring, the dinner, the persistence, why? To get in my pants?" I demanded an answer.

"Is that what you think of me?" he yelled, now standing over me but he knew his height didn't intimidate me.

"What should I think? You slept with me and then straight away didn't want anything to do with me. You went all weird, didn't talk to me and when you did you were rude I didn't even do anything!" I shrieked back at him.

"It's not what you did!" I looked up at him confused, "You started talking about being with me and liking me! Sure you killing your step-dad didn't scare me away but the thought of being with a murder did!" he blurted. I felt a tear well up in my eye. Don't cry Lani, you do not cry. I pushed back the tears and swallowed hard before talking so he wouldn't hear the bubble in my throat.

"Wow," I rolled my eyes, "I didn't think you all people would stoop so low Austin," he laughed at me.

"Hey now, don't kill me," that was it, where did he get off because he was scared of a little girl.

"I'd rather let you rot in misery because a man like you will only die alone," I spat, "it's not my fault you're afraid of commitment," I retorted once more whilst throwing the ring at him. He didn't catch it he just let it fell to the floor.

"I'm not scared of commitment!" he defened himself, I laughed.

"Exactly, you're scared of me. So watch your back on the rest of this tour," with that I walked out the door and laid on the couch.

"You tell him girl!" Phil joked from the couch across from me. I sighed.

"I'm sorry," he looked at me with questioning eyes, "I didn't want to ruin this tour for you guys," he shook his head and lifted himself from his couch and motioned for me to lift my legs. I did so and once he sat I laid me legs back across him.

"You didn't Lani, he did. He knew what he was getting himself into. God I thought he wanted you and all your 'baggage', he never shut up about you when you weren't here. You knew each other for five days and he knew so much, he didn't care about what you did he cared about you. I don't know what's gotten to him but if anything happens to fuck up the rest of the month you need to know it's not because of you," he finished while drawing small circles on my shin across the material of my jeans. He patted my leg and I lifted it again so he could stand. He walked over to the other end of the couch and kissed me on the forehead. "Get some rest, early start in the morning," I nodded and he left the lounge room into his own room.

***

Hours had passed since Phil left me on the couch to sleep and all I could do was toss and turn trying to repress the conversations with Austin earlier. I wasn't getting any sleep tonight and the boys would be up soon, I sighed and lifted myself from the couch. I walked around the living room for a few minutes before finding myself opening the handle to Phil's room and letting myself in.

I could see the lump under the sheets that was Phil's body so I walked over and leaned down on my knees beside his sleeping body. I gently shook at his shoulders trying to wake him.

"Phil, Phil, Phil wake up, Phil!" I had to call his name softly numerous times before his eyes fluttered open.

"Wh- what?" his eyes looked in all separate directions before he fully woke from his sleep. "Oh Leilani, hey. What's wrong?" he looked at me curiously.

"I can't sleep, can I get in bed with you?" I asked hesitantly waiting for him to tell me to head back to the couch.

"Of course, but first get the jeans off, how uncomfortable!" he laughed and motioned me around to the other side of the bed. I pulled my jeans down leaving them at the side of the bed and crawled in crashing my head against the pillow. His arms wrapped around me securing me into a warm cuddle. I blushed at his touch.

"Thank you," I cooed, my eyes finally resting as I drifted off in his lean, muscular arms.

"Any time beautiful," he struggled to say as he drifted back into his rest.

Notes

Will anything happen between Phil and Lani or is he just looking out for her?!
