Chapter 14

School had been more stressful then ever lately, doing all the midterm tests because today was the last day before Christmas break started. I was up all night cramming for them today. I was ready to cry, why must every teacher give you a test right before break? Don't they ever think maybe we'd want a break? But no. That's not allowed. They always tell us don't procrastinate but yet here they are giving tests out at the last minute. I filled in the last few answers of my math test and stood up to go hand it in.

"3 minutes to spare." I sighed looking over to the clock.

Thank God lunch was next, I need like a pack of cigarettes to calm down. After thumping my pencil against the desk for what seemed like forever the bell rang. I stood up throwing my bag on my shoulde and scurried out of the room. Basically running to my locker.

I stood there scanning over what I had to take home and what I didn't. After throwing a few oops into my bag, I turned around falling right into Austin.

"Well hello to you too." He chuckled, helping me back to my feet. I shrugged.

"Everything okay baby?" He frowned, I nodded.

"C'mon Phoenix talk to me." He pushed out his bottom lip and placed his hands together.

"I'm just really stressed today, all these fucking exams and with Christmas coming up, and not to mention Principal Jones walking into your room yesterday. That was fucking close. I said running my hand through my tangled hair. Did I even brush my hair today? Guess not, considering the amounts of knots in it. I grabbed a hair tie from my wrist and quickly threw it into a messy bun on the top of my head.

"Look babe, she didn't suspect anything so were all good, and as for your tests you're gonna do fine. I mean I'm pretty the strip quizzing helped you." He winked.

"Shut up. Someone's gonna hear you dumb ass." I snickered.

"Someone's being bad, might have to teach you a lesson." He smirked.

"I'm going to lunch." I said before the conversation got anymore heated. I definitely didn't need the thought of me and him in my head right now. I walked through the outside doors and walked over to our lunch table sitting down. Laying my head on the cold picnic table.

"You just as stressed as me?" Alan said, man did he look bad. He looked like he hasn't slept in a century and the bags under his eyes did not help at all.

I nodded, "need a smoke?" I said offering one from my pack. Which was getting dangerously low. I'm gonna have to get some on my way to work. Oh yeah, I'm a working girl now. I work at subway. But I haven't gained any weight, surprisingly.

"Only three more midterms though." Alan stated, taking in a long drag.

"Well you guys took all AP classes, what did you expect?" Skylar chuckled.

"Its not funny Sky, I honestly feel like crying." I said taking in a drag.

She shrugged and the bell rang, lunch went quick today. I threw my cigarette on the ground and stomped it out, Alan doing the same with his. I sighed and stood up to go back inside. Making my way into chemistry, the test landed on my desk and I proceeded to answer it to the best of my abilities. It was pretty simple, I finished with more than enough time. So I laid my head down. I could go to sleep right now. The bell startled me from my much needed slumber and I drug my self to my next class. Another midterm, another session of wanting to rip up the test and throw it in the teachers face. Once finished the bell immediately rang, and I walked ever so slowly to music. What kind of midterm would we have in here? Austin wouldn't tell me, so I had no clue what to expect. After all the sunken in sad faces made their way into the classroom, he began.

"So midterms kicked everyone's asses huh?" He asked clapping his hands together. A unison of nods and yeahs came from around the room.

"I thought so, so you guys remember when we showed our songs and everything?" Everyone nodded.

"That was your midterm, today is a free day. I'm giving you permission to sleep, listen to music, whatever you need. If you need to go finish a test then you may go to that teachers room, and I'll give you a pass. Just let me know." He announced, I never loved this man anymore than right now.

I started tearing up as I laid my head down in Alan's lap. He was already snoring away. Skylar was listening to music and I was contently falling asleep.

I woke to someone shaking me, I rubbed my tired eyes and saw Austin sitting there.

"What time is it?" I managed in between yawns.

"Uhhhh 4, shy sweetie?" He smiled.

I shot straight up and rushed to grab my things. "I've gotta work tonight." I said rushing out of his room running out to my car. I jumped in and drove to subway. I ran into the shop and dashed into the bathroom, changing into uniform and putting on my ugly forest green visor.

Work was so slow, and I mean we had customers but everyone is just pissed off all the time. What ever happened to Christmas spirit? Being all holly and jolly around the holidays? I still had yet to run to the mall.

"Phoenix you can leave sweetheart, you look dead." Carol the nice elderly lady smiled to me. She was such a sweetheart. I had to get her something for Christmas as well.

"Are you sure Car? I don't wanna leave you to lock up alone?" I frowned.

"I've go Doug here with me, he'll help. Go home honey." She nodded.

I wasn't arguing anymore I went back into the bathroom throwing on a pair of sweatpants and a baggy shirt and my Uggs and made my way over to the mall. I pulled in and went for Tilly's and Pacsun, grabbing Austin some things he said he liked in here. I also went and got the poor guy a new of converses you should see his, they are destroyed. Now onto my mom. I got here a pair of earrings, some clothes, cooking stuff and mother daughter bracelets. My dad I got him clothes, power tools and a Cowboys snuggie. I picked up a kitchen aide self blender for Carol, I finally was in my way home. I pulled into the driveway and saw Austin my mom and dad setting up the Christmas tree together. I smiled at them, my family. I was so blessed to be as happy and loved as I am.

I saw Austin showing my parents a little black box through the window, and I'm dad shaking his is hand and nodding. my mom crying and embracing Austin, and Austin with a big smile on his face.

What was he planning? Was he going to purpose?
