Darling, you'll be okay
chapter 27
I awoke to a violent crash of thunder. The heavens stirred angrily as the stormed raged outside. And a storm raged inside me as I realized what day it was.
I checked my phone. 6:00am, just before sunrise. My phone showed that I had received a new message from Tristan. As I unlocked the screen, the light blinded me. I blinked rapidly to clear my vision and read the message.
Sweetheart, I am on way to Katrina's grave. Will be home by 12. I'll pick you up for lunch, be ready :)
My chest sunk a bit. Was it jealousy? No, I think this was something more. I have a bad feeling about today.
As an attempt to ignore this pang of unease, I turned over and drifted back to sleep. But my dreams became storms, and churned into haunting nightmares. The dream felt so real: Tristan is driving, alone, to visit Katrina. He looks out the window, looking away from the road for only a few moments. As his vision is directed back to the road, he veers off the road. My vision becomes a blur of colors as the car is helplessly thrown and spun around.
I awake suddenly, jumping, sitting straight up in bed.
Lena, it was just a dream, I remind myself.
Suddenly, my phone comes to life. The ring makes me jump once more. Its Tristan’s dad. Why is he calling me?
"Hello?"
I am greeted with a rush as his dad stutters over words, obviously upset about something.
"Woah. Slow down. What's wrong?!" I question.
"It's Tristan!" He sobs. "He's... he's been in an accident!"
I feel my heart drop. No, it can't be.
