Just One Yesterday

If You Call Me At All

Walking back and forth from the laundry room to the living room and back was beginning to feel like the most intense workout I'd had in a million years. My stomach had been hurting the last couple of days, but my doctor said it was nothing; just a little pressure. So, I listened to him. By the time I had made a sixth trip to the laundry room, making sure mine and Jonah's clothes were all washed, my stomach felt so strange. I had never felt it before, and that's that I had obviously been pregnant before.

"This is the worst fucking pregnancy ever." I mumbled to myself as I held onto my stomach with one arm, and threw clothes in a medium sized basket with the other.

"Mom!" Jonah began to shout over and over, and I felt bad for even thinking he was being annoying, but he was lately.

"Yeah Jo?" I replied as I walked back into the living room to see him on the top of the stairs.

"My TV is making some weird noise." He said worried, as if he broke it or something.

"Jo, I'm busy. Just turn it off, I'll get to it in a minute." I said, dropping the basket onto the couch.

He crossed his arms angrily, "I wish dad was here!" He yelled before stomping off to his room and slamming the door.

Today was another bad day. The past two weeks have been bad. I'm beyond irritable, I'm in pain, my son is being a brat, and my soon-to-be-husband-again isn't here because he wants to tour the fucking world.

I took two deep breaths, with my eyes shut, holding onto my stomach before opening them back up and making my way to go upstairs to fix Jonah's TV. It took me a little while, and I kept wondering why we had stairs in this house, but eventually, I made it up. I knocked on Jo's door and he opened it, his eyebrows still furrowed.

"I'm sorry, okay? Mom's just really tired and your little sister is hurting her really bad." I confessed as I walked to his television and looked around it, trying to see if anything unplugged or something. Lord knows I had no idea how these flat screen TV's worked. "Um?" I said, confused making him laugh a little. "How about we wait until grandpa comes over or something because I have no idea how to fix this."

He nodded smiling then it quickly faded as he watched me walk out of his room. "Um, mom? Did you pee or something?" He asked frightened.

My mouth dropped and I looked down at the puddle that was sitting in front of his door. "You've got to be fucking kidding me." I said, feeling my chest get heavy almost instantly.

"Mom?" Jonah asked again, hoping for an answer as to what that was.

I tried not to cry, I really did. "Jonah, go into your sister's room and get her bag that's been on the rocking chair, okay? Then you go and put on your jacket and shoes, I'm gonna change, and get my bag, and we're gonna call somebody to pick us up because guess what? You're sister decided to come early." I faked a smile as my eyes began to water. He nodded carefully as he listened and ran into his sister's room.

I walked slowly into mine and Vic's room, grabbing my phone as I found some clothes to change into. I called Vic twice, I got no answer on either. I called Jaime, Mike, Tony, and Casey -- nothing. I called my parents, Vic's parents -- no answer. I called Jess and Erin -- nothing. My last and only hope was stupid ass Alysha, and I wasn't even sure if I had even told Mike that she'd been texting Jaime. Anyway, I decided to call and she picked up, hoping to god she was here in San Diego and not LA.

"Hey Liv!" She shouted happily.

"Alysha, look I need you right now."

"What happened? Are you okay?" Her happiness lowering as she didn't expect what was gonna come out of my mouth.

"I'm fine. My water broke about 7 minutes ago and my contractions are starting up. I need you to come and get me and take me to the hospital please."

"Oh my god, I'm on my way. I'll be there in ten minutes. I'm at Mike's."

"Oh thank god. Thank you so much." Tears for forming as I pleaded with her.

"No worries girl, I got you." She said and then we hung up. I grabbed my hospital bag, and changed into fresh and comfortable clothes. Jonah walked in a couple minutes after with the baby's bag hanging on his arm. His shoes were on and his jacket was on as well.

"Alysha's gonna be here in a few minutes. You ready?" I asked, half smiling.

He nodded, fear still apparent in his eyes, "Mhmm. Did you call daddy?"

I nodded, "Yeah, I did. I think he's on stage right now, but hopefully he calls me back right away." I wanted to change the subject, I wanted to cry honestly. I knew my stomach didn't feel right. "Let's go downstairs." I threw my bag on my arm and Jonah followed me down the stairs and then thankfully as soon as we reached the bottom, the doorbell rang. Jonah ran to open it and Alysha popped in, her blonde hair being such a relief right now.

She grabbed my bag, "Let's go have this baby, huh?" She smiled softly, reassuring me that things would be okay.

My eyes watered and I nodded, holding onto her arm as she led me to her car and helped us get in.

Once we got to the hospital, I was put in some wheelchair and wheeled away to the maternity ward. Alysha and Jonah were following me, her killing her phone's battery to get someone to pick up. We were in the room and I was hooked up to IV's and shit, waiting for this to be over with.

Jonah was sitting in a chair beside me, holding my hand. Alysha was looking at numbers in my phone and using that to call from her phone when she finally got someone to pick up. "Mike! Holy shit, what the fuck?" She shouted, putting him on speaker.

"Sorry babe, we just got off. What's up? How come Liv called me?"

"Well dick, it's because she's in labor! Her water broke and she was trying to call everyone, her parents, your parents, your stupid brother and bandmates, the girls -- everyone! And no one picked up! I was the only one who did and now we're at the hospital. Where the hell is Vic?"

"Holy shit, holy shit! Are you fucking serious? Oh my god. Hold on, he just got in the shower. You know how long he takes. Fuck!" He shouted and then we heard him running down the bus and then banging on the restroom door. "Hey fuck ass, your wife is in fucking labor what the fuck!" He shouted, making Jonah and I giggle a little.

I felt better now that I was actually in the hospital. The pain meds helped, too. "What!" You heard Vic and then more running. Alysha laughed a little and I shook my head, then seconds later, my phone lights up and starts ringing.

Jonah answered it and put it on speaker, "Hey dad."

"Jo! Where's you mom? Oh my god, I'm so sorry. Where is she? Is she okay? Is your mom okay?" He was frantic, and it sounded like he was zipping something up before running elsewhere being frantic.

"Vic, I'm right here. I'm fine. I'm at the hospital."

"Is she here yet? Please God, tell me she isn't here yet!" He shouted before I heard him tell someone, "I need a fucking taxi to the airport, NOW."

"She isn't. Not yet at least. My doctor is coming in in a few minutes to make sure she's okay. What are you even doing?"

"Okay, okay. I'm trying to get a cab, so I can go to the airport, get a red eye to SD and be there. Livvy, I have to be there." He sounded worried and scared. I don't blame him. I am too.

"Vic, calm down. Please. Just calm down. You'll be here." I saw the doctor open the door so I said, "The doc is coming in. I'll call you in a little bit."

"Okay, I love you."

"I love you, too. Bye." I hung up and gave Jonah back my phone.

"Miss Mendoza! Nice to see you again. We're here a little early, huh?" She said smiling sweetly.

"Jo, go to the waiting room okay?" I said and he nodded, grabbing a book he brought and leaving the room. "Yeah, a little early."

"Let's make sure everything is okay with the little princess." She said before checking me out. "She's coming alright. Everything looks normal and okay, but let me run a few tests before just to make sure she's ready too. So that way we can see if we need to go into emergency C-section or not." She took her gloves off and then walked out of the room.

"Alysha, she cannot come before Vic get's here. He promised he would be here. He cant't miss his baby's birth." I said looking over at her, finally letting out some tears that had been welled up for what felt like forever.

"Liv, he'll be here. He wouldn't miss this for the world. Even music and his fans aren't as important as his family." She said before the door knocked and Jess, Erin, and Jo walked in the room. They had pink balloons and apologetic looks on their faces.

"Babydoll, we are so sorry we didn't answer! Lysha text us as soon as she found out." Jess said giving me a kiss on my forehead.

"It's okay." I smiled then looked over to Alysha. "Any word on my parents or Vic's parents yet?"

She shook her head, "I called, left messages, text all of them like fifty times. They should be responding soon."

"A month early. Holy hell." Erin said as she sat down on a nearby chair.

"I know, this is way too much. I knew something didn't feel right. I knew I was in too much pain and felt too much pressure." I replied, resting my head back and winced as another contraction came about. as they were about fifteen minutes apart now. I had nothing to worry about at this moment, because the baby wouldn't get here until it was a few minutes apart. All I kept thinking about was if Vic would make it. My gut told me he wasn't going to.

He was in Seattle. There's no way he'd make it. And that completely broke my heart.

I had woken up a couple of hours later, to the TV on and Jonah was watching it peacefully. It looked like my parents had finally shown up and that Vic's parents did, too. My mom was on the left side of me where Alysha was and she was staring at her phone. She probably took a picture of me while I was sleeping and put it on Facebook or something.

"Mija, you're up." Vivian said softly.

I nodded, "Look who showed up." I smiled softly making them all laugh.

"Sorry babe. We got here at the same time and discussed the entire elevator ride up here how shitty of parents we are."

"It's okay." I said, then asked. "Anyone talk to Vic?" I asked, feeling a contraction come on.

"Last I heard, he was on about to get on a flight sweetheart." Papa Fuentes said.

I nodded, then looked at Jonah who was looking at me and he smiled. I put my hand on his head of curly hair and then smiled. "Are you nervous for a baby sister?"

He frowned slightly, "What if she doesn't like me?"

"Jo, she's gonna love you! You're gonna be the best big brother ever." I comforted him as he smiled at my words. He is gonna be a great big brother. I can feel that he will be.

Eventually, my contractions came sooner and sooner. It was decided that if Vic couldn't be here, my mom would be the one to be by my side. I was okay with that. Every once in a while the doctor came in and checked on me. "Alright, how far apart are contractions Olivia?" She asked and everyone left but my mom, whom stayed in the room.

"About five minutes, I'd say."

"Alright little lady," She said has she checked me. "You're almost at ten centimeters. Looks like she's almost ready. Looks like in about thirty minutes, you should be ready to go."

"Really?" I asked, my stomach churning nervously now.

"Yes, really. Just give me a few moments to grab a nurse or two, and then get things set up. By that time, she should be ready to come out into the world." She smiled before walking out of the room.

I started to lose it. "Mom, Vic isn't here yet. I can't have her without him. He promised me he'd be here when she came. I don't even know what her name is gonna be, mom! Please call him." I sobbed hard as she brought me into a tight hug, rubbing my back.

"I'll call him, Liv." She grabbed her phone. "He'll be here." She continued to rub my back as she dialed his number and called him, both of us hoping that he was almost here.
