Fast Times at Clairemont High

I texted Azalea and told her I was moving in with Mike and Vic. I am so thankful for them, I don't know what I would do if I didn't know Mama or Papa. I was currently setting up my bedroom which was formerly the guest room. I was going through boxes when I came across a box that my dad kept everything in. I pulled out a letter my father wrote to me before he died that only Tony knew about. I can remember running to him and crying in his arms for hours. The letter read:

Lyric,
I am getting sicker and sicker as the days go on. I want you to know that I will always love you. I hate that one day I am going to leave you with your mother. I am truly sorry about that, but I know that you have great friends that are going to help you through this tough time and one day I know your going to get away from your mother. I want you to know that no matter what happens in your life that I will always be looking down on you with a smile. One thing that I have to let you know is that your mother, even though you haven't seen it yet is abusive. I know its hard to hear but she wants you dead. She wrote me a letter that I have since thrown away saying once you hit your teenage years around about 16, so promise me that you will get away from her. Find a way to get away from her baby girl, I don't care if you run away but I want you to live your life to the fullest.

I know what he meant when he wrote this. Tony and I thought it was just his pain meds. I got up from the floor and ran to the front door. I ran to Tony's with tears in my eyes and pounded on the door.

"Lyric, Are you okay?" His mom answered

"No, W-where's Tony?" I asked

"He is Jaime's" I thanked her and bolted to Jaime's.

It felt like my eyes were bleeding because of how hard I was crying but I didn't care. I just opened the door like I always do and ran past Jaime's mother and into Jaime's room.

"Hey lyric wh-" I cut off Jaime

"Where is T-tony?" I cried.

"He is in the living room with Audrey, are you okay?" I collapsed on the floor.

"I can't breath!" I panted and Azalea picked me up.

"We need to get you checked out now!" She yelled running up the stairs. The last thing I remember was being in the car.

3 hours later.....

I woke up and saw everyone around me crying.

"Wha- Whats going on?" I asked and Mike ran to my side along with Azalea

"You past out on Jaime's floor and I carried you in the car and Jaime's mom drove us here" Azalea looked so tired.

"i am so sorry I put you through this again. I know you didn't wanna have to come here again" I said as I hugged my best friend. Azalea was going to reply but the doctor came in before she could

"Lyric Winters, I want to ask you a few questions" I nodded and the guys, Mama, papa, Audrey, and Azalea left the room.

"Okay" I was hesitant.

"Lyric, did you eat anything today?" I nodded

"yeah, I ate at my mothers house some type of cookies she had on the counter" He wrote all of what I was saying on a pad of paper.

"Okay well you had enough Oxycontin in your system to overdose and die" I pulled the letter from my pocket.

"I- I know why read this" It all made sense now. My mother made those cookies knowing I loved chocolate chip cookies. I wiped tears from my eyes and looked at the doctor.

"Okay I am going to call the police to have them investigate your mothers home but for now you have to stay in the hospital for at least three days to ensure that there is no complications with your heart" I nodded and he let everyone back in.

"Babe, are you okay?" Mike asked

"You know when we went to my house to get the rest of my things and I ate almost the whole plate of cookies?" He nodded

"Yeah I had some too they were good"

"Yeah, You had one and I ate 16. Mike they had Oxycontin in them I almost overdosed and died" He started to cry and I held his hand.

"This would have never happened if I hadn't of pointed them out to you" I shook my head

"No, Michael this is not your fault it is no ones but my mothers." Everyone looked at me shocked


"What do you mean?" Audrey asked

"Well, I was putting things away in my room when I came across a note my father wrote to me before he died and I only showed it to Tony because he was the only one around and now I know what it meant" Everyone exept for Tony looked confused

"Your mother was trying to kill you" Tony said

"Yes, my mother tried to kill me and now I have to stay here for three days" I said

"Well is there anything I can do?" Azalea asked

"Could you get my homework from school?" I asked and she nodded

Everyone stayed with me until visiting hours were over. An hour after everyone left I was informed that my mother was arrested and that she is going to be tried for attempted murder. A part of me wish none of this happened but then again I am glad my mother is in jail now. I reached for my guitar and realized I didn't have it and had a panic attack.

"Babe, here ya go just please try and get some sleep" Mike said handing me my guitar. He was worried because my panic attack caused me to stop breathing for a second and they had to give me CPR.

"I am sorry I just had a panic attack and I don't know Mike I just wanna go home" I said. Mike got into the bed next to me and he fell asleep. The nurse came in but didn't ask him to leave so I just left it. I woke up the next morning to no Mike, then I realized he had school. I saw a note and read it.

Babe, I love you with all my heart but i had to go to school. I promise I will be there when I get out. Be strong, Love Mike.
