Perfection Through Silence

I Am The Chancer

Danny sighed as he laid back on the chair by one of the pools, tired from chasing everyone in the wading pool and just wanted to relax for a while. Well that and he’d seen a bunch of girls surrounding Andy, all of them flirting and really good looking and he’d decided that he had no chance when faced with that competition and left them to it. Andy seemed to be enjoying himself anyway so who was he to intrude?

Frowning slightly at the sound of one of the girls laughing obnoxiously he turned away and looked out over the other patrons of the water park, all happy families and friends enjoying the cool refreshment on such a hot day before his eyes picked out his sister moving in between the other people, Mike hot on her heels as they laughed. He smiled as Mike sped up and caught Taylah around the waist and spun her around before putting her down just as someone came up to them to get pictures.

Danny was glad that his sister had finally found someone and he was glad that that someone was Mike. Despite his supposed reputation, he was such a great guy and he treated his baby sister like gold, the way that she should be treated and he wouldn’t be lying when he said that they were his OTP. He was just waiting for them to become Canon because the waiting was driving him crazy.

“Why are you over here alone?” Danny closed his eyes and swallowed as the person he’d tried to avoid sat down on the chair across from him, knee brushing his own. “I looked up and you were gone. What’s wrong?”

Danny slowly opened his eyes and took in the sight of Andy, hair sticking up in odd directions, water dripping down his tattooed arms and chest. “Nothing’s wrong, Ando, don’t worry. It was just getting a little crowded over there with all those girls, that’s all.”

Andy frowned slightly and leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees. “Are you sure? I thought I might’ve done something wrong because we’d been having a good time over there and then you just left.”

“It was nothing you did, don’t worry about it. Just realising where I sit on the grand scheme of things; it’s nothing man.” Danny answered, shooting him a forced smile which just made Andy frown.

“What do you mean ‘on the grand scheme of things’? I clearly have something to worry about when my best friend is lying to me and forcing smiles. Why won’t you just tell me what’s eating away at you?”

“Because it’s unimportant, don’t worry about it.” Danny sighed and looked down at his clasped hands while Andy frowned and shook his head.

“Nothing you have ever said has been unimportant, Danny and I doubt that’ll change anytime soon so please just talk to me. Was it those fucking leeches that were hanging around us?”
Danny looked up, confusion warping his features as he lifted his right hand to absently pull on his rim of his stretcher. “Leeches?”

“Those fucking girls. I swear sometimes it really gets to me that they think they can come over and bat their eyelashes and laugh and think we’ll fall all over them.”

“They were pretty though,” Danny said softly, eyes moving downcast once more.

Andy nodded slightly as he watched his best friend. “They were, but they’re not what I want. Never have been.”

“And who do you want?” Danny looked up and met Andy’s brown eyes with his own as his heart began to beat faster in his chest. Andy smiled sheepishly and tugged on his own stretcher before answering with one simple word.

“You.”

Danny swallowed thickly as his heart began to beat even faster, “Seriously? You like me?”

“Yep.”

Me?”

“Yeah,” Andy laughed slightly, “why is that so hard to understand?”

Danny smiled at the idea of Andy liking him back. It was strange knowing that the person that you’ve liked for so long likes you back. “No reason, Ando. I like you too. So fucking much and I thought that it was stupid to think that you would like me back that I kinda kept it to myself; no that I didn’t drop hints or anything.”

Andy smirked. “Oh, I got them, don’t you worry about that.”

“One more slide?” Taylah begged as she looked over her shoulder at the large slides despite the fact that she was already dressed and they were heading towards the main entrance.

Mike rolled his eyes half-heartedly at Taylah’s hopeful expression and shook his head. “No, we have to go now, babe. The parks gonna close soon anyway.” He watched as Taylah pouted slightly but nodded, increasingly her pace so she was walking beside him and took his hand, moving in to lean against his arm and rest her head against what little of his shoulder she could reach.

“We going to get dinner?” Horizon called over to Norm who had driven the bus from beside where she was walking beside Alan, Shay perched on her back as she walked.

“Yeah, we’ll vote on where when we get on the bus,” Norm called back before going back to his conversation with Sheep, Bring Me’s tour manager.

They followed their relatively large group of friends out the gates, both frowning slightly at the sight of the small group of fans crowding around the Of Mice bus. They’d faced the odd fan here and there during the day for pictures but that was about it because their fans understood that they just wanted to relax and half the time it was just them having an easy conversation while waiting in the lines.

“Walk back?” Taylah asked softly as she looked up at Mike, knowing that he wasn’t hungry and that they wouldn’t eat for a little while due to the huge amount of lunch that they’d had.

Mike watched as the group of fans noticed them before looking down at the ginger tucked against his side, the black hoodie that he’d brought with him swallowing up her small frame and hanging lower than her denim shorts. “Sometimes, T, it’s like you read my mind. Let’s go before the fans notice us.”

“Did you see Andy and Danny this afternoon?” Taylah asked Mike as they walked out of a small family owned café which was about five minutes from the buses. “They were all cuddly and cute together. I think they’re dating now,” Taylah smiled as she sipped her cold caramelised coffee fusion, happy that Danny was finally with the guy he’d been pining after for so long.

“They look like they’re dating,” Mike agreed as he sipped at his own caramel fusion before turning to her. “But then again, so do we.”

Taylah smiled slightly as she turned to him. “That’s true too.”

The two walked, arguing between what the best scene from Harry Potter was, Taylah saying that the scene where Hermione called Moony way from the others when they went back in time was the best scene and Mike was saying that the best scene was when Ron and Harry were attacked by the acromantula; neither backing down until they reached the back parking lot of the venue they were set to play tomorrow with the agreement that they’ll watch the two movies after they have a shower.

Mike stepped off the Booger fifteen later while struggling to put his left arm in the sleeve of his black hoodie, groaning slightly when it slipped in and the force threw his arm against the side of the bus. Double checking the beanie he’d thrown over his damp hair was still in place he walked the short distance to the LITS bus and stepped on; the sounds of the shower running and Taylah softly singing the words to Diamonds And Why Men Buy Them reaching him as he walked over to where the bunks were, picking up Taylah’s phone from her bunk and climbed up on to Danny’s bunk which was the middle one on the left.

Tucking one arm under his head, Mike unlocked her phone and opened up Fanfiction Reader to look through her library at the different Harry Potter fics that she’d downloaded until a Hermione and George one caught his eye and he opened it. He was on chapter five when the water of the shower cut out and Taylah walked out in her towel. She walked over to the bottom bunk which held everyone’s suitcase and she pulled out Danny’s Jaws tee shirt which she’d pinched from him years ago.

“You know if it wasn’t me and I didn’t know you so well this would be thoroughly awkward and would seem as if you were trying to come on to me,” Mike’s eyes moved quickly as he read the page before swiping his thumb across to get the next page before locking the phone and laying it flat on his stomach, turning his head to see Taylah standing beside him with an amused expression on her face.

“Mikey, it’d be awkward if I was uncomfortable with my nakedness, but I’m not and I don’t strip down when I’m trying to come on to someone.”

“You just say cheesy things and act awkward,” Mike said with a smile which caused her to laugh before she continued.

“Besides it’s not as if there’s much to look at.” Taylah still hadn’t pulled the shirt on due to her looking for her underwear before coming out triumphant with the light grey men’s boxer briefs. As soon as she pulled them free, she dropped the towel and stepped into them.

“What do you mean not much to look at?” Mike frowned at what she said and turned to look at her, eyes taking in her body as she pulled the underwear up. Taylah turned to face him with a small mirthless smile.

“I don’t know if you’ve realised this or not but my body isn’t the nicest to look at,” she looked down at the scars from her chemo, the ones she couldn’t hide before pulling her gaze away to lock back with Mike’s eyes.

“You’re beautiful, Taylah.”

Taylah smiled at him, “Then you don’t see what I see, Mike.”

“What do you see?” Mike asked her as he pulled his arm from under his head to rest it on his stomach with the other. He watched as she looked down at her body, naked except from her underwear.

“I see scars and rolls and thighs that touch and a lot of cellulite,” Taylah looked back at him as she answered.

Mike’s eyes drifted from hers to look over her body. He took in the slight roll on her sides, just below where her bra usually sat before drifting lower to her tummy which wasn’t perfectly flat but came out slightly. He smiled at the fact that her tattoo was partially obscured by her breasts which had faint stretch marks before taking in the faint scars on her tummy and sides. Lifting his head slightly, Mike looked down at her hips with white stretch mark and at her amazing legs, at her touching thighs and the barest hint of cellulite before her looked back up at her face.

“I see a girl who isn’t trying to be perfect, who isn’t ashamed of her body but embraces it. Fuck, Latté, you have such an amazing body I don’t understand how you don’t see it. I see a beautiful girl who shouldn’t worry about the smallest things.” Mike sighed softly and closed his eyes for a moment before opening them to meet her dark eyes. “I wish you could see what I see because the view is amazing. You’re small imperfections are what make you who you are and I would never want you to change who you are. Every little thing, your scars, your tattoos, your adorable little rolls; they all make up the most amazing girl I have ever met and love.”

Taylah swallowed thickly and looked down at her body, trying to see what Mike saw. “You really see that when you look at me?” she looked up to see Mike nod and push himself up, sliding her phone onto the bunk before he climbed down to stand in front of her.

“When I look at you, I see the girl I never want to be away from,” Mike moved closer to her, reaching out to rest his hands on her waist, completely ignoring to her lack of a shirt as he used his grip to pull her to him. “I see the Ginger Prince to the Ginger Princess and an amazing person to look up to. I see the sweet girl who will help a little boy find his mother and then buy him an ice cream because he was so brave and who actually managed to seduce me with her sheer awkwardness and lame lines and shyness. You are everything I’ve ever wanted and needed, Taylah.

”You watch Harry Potter; you can play a whole heap of instruments including the drums which is fucking hot by the way. I love the fact that you’d rather stay in and read than go out to a club and that you watch cartoons rather than TV dramas. You have days where all you want to wear are your ridiculous Christmas sweaters and tights and you steal everyone’s clothes because you think of everyone as family. You are the most frustrating and annoying person half the time and it cracks me up whenever Horizon sings the song she came up with to you about being a cunt but that’s just a part of who you are and nothing and no one will ever change that.”

Mike leaned down and pressed his forehead against hers as he smiled at her. “We’ve danced around each other for almost two months and frankly, I’m tired of dancing.”

Mike leaned down and pressed his lips against hers; kissing her slowly as he pulled her flush against him while her arm slid up to wrap around his neck, finger twirling through his hair. He pulled back slowly, pressing a last lingering kiss you her lips before pulling away all together.

“Say you’ll be mine,” he whispered, eyes closed as their foreheads reconnected.

Taylah opened her eyes and smiled, leaning in to peck his lips softly before nodding. “Oh, God yes.”

Mike lifted his head and smiled, the moment ending when she shivers slightly and he remembered that it was cold and she was only in underwear. Pulling his arms away from her, Mike reached over and grabbed the shirt she’d picked out and handed it to her. “If you got sick the guys would never forgive me.”

“They’d hate you for ages,” Taylah agreed as she pulled the Jaws shirt on before turning back to grab the cream coloured track pants with machine guns on them which Oli had given her as a surprise for no reason. When she straightened up and tied the draw string, she met Mike’s eyes and smirked.

“Now, about those Harry Potter movies; you ready to be proven wrong about which scene is better?”

“Please, the Acromantula scene is the best,” Mike said as he grinned and walked to the front of the bus and turned on the TV before sitting on the couch.

“What! No way, José, Werewolf scene,” Taylah argued while she grabbed both Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban from the cupboard specifically used for DVDs. “I don’t get why you don’t agree,” she said as she place the second movie into the DVD player, moving over to curl up next to him on the couch.

“Because it isn’t the best scene,” Mike said simply as he wrapped Taylah in his arms and pulled her flush against him.

“Neither is the spider scene,” Taylah mumbled as she pressed play on the root menu before resting her head on his shoulder as the Warner Bros logo appeared through the clouds.

Alex yawned as he opened the bus door after three hours of being out. Vic and Horizon shoved him forward, deciding that he was taking too long. When they walked on they all fell silent at the sight of Mike asleep on his back with Taylah lying on his chest wrapped tightly in his arms. Looking over, Vic saw the end titles of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban running up the television.

Smiling at the two Vic could tell what had happened. The cover of Chamber of Secrets was clue enough seeing as Mike and Taylah always argued over which movie and what scene was better. Recalling the message he’d gotten from Mike about three hours ago saying that Taylah agreed to be his girlfriend, Vic smiled wider.

The fact that his little brother was with the girl of his dreams made him happy and he was proud of Mike. He picked someone who was genuine and someone who was fun to hang around and understood what they went through with touring and general life.

“They’re adorable,” Alex said in amusement as the bus door opened once more behind them and Austin walked over, looked at the two and pulled out his phone.

“This cuteness needs to be documented,” Austin said as he opened up his Instagram app and pressed one of the buttons, accidently pressing the video button before going with it as Taylah shifted closer to Mike while he turned his head to press a kiss to her temple before settling back into deep sleep.

Grinning down at the video, Austin selected a filter and tagged both of them in it before uploading it with the caption “About time these two get together. All they need now is a ship name.”

“Come on, guys,” Alex whispered as he pushed everyone towards the door. “Let’s let them sleep.”

Horizon nodded as she turned off the movie and grabbed the spare blanket from the back of the bench chair, draping it over the two before walking out after the others, pausing momentarily to look back at the two with a smile before stepping off the bus and closing the door behind her.

Notes

Sorry it took so long to post guys by the time I had an idea for this chapter and began writing it I had to pack for my trip to Sydney which is where I currently am at the moment. It was difficult to figure out how to start this chapter but I finally punched it out and I'm pretty sure I'm happy with it.

I hope you like the fluff and shit that I slipped in and that one of you lovely readers pick up on my Sherlock reference that was thrown in here. Also, Arthur Darvill, the guy who plays Rory Williams in Doctor Who is the lead singer of Edmund, the band who wrote the song which is the chapter title.

So stoked for tomorrow, I'm dragging my dad to the Doctor Who convention down at the ABC studios. It's gonna rock.
