Karen's Point of View

Contraction after contraction the pain kept getting worse. I squeezed my eyes closed and Mike held my hand tightly. My mom was in the waiting room with Sam so I knew Mike wouldn't have to leave me. "Mike this really hurts." Mike looked up at me sympathetically "I'm sorry baby, if I could take the pain away you know I would." he kissed my hand and a doctor came in. "Hey Karen, long time now see." "Hey Dr. K." she smiled at me and lifted the sheet up that had been covering my legs. "Okay your still at 5 centimeters, so were half way." she tried to cheer me up. I groaned "Don't worry sweetheart she'll be out soon." I nodded and put my head back.

"This is the last kid were having Mike." he chuckled "I'm good with 2 baby." I groaned in pain as another contraction passed. "I'm back let's see if it's time." Dr. K said she checked "Okay were gonna do a really fast sonogram just to make sure she's positioned correctly." I nodded and Dr. K left the room. I felt tears welling up in my eyes. "Baby it's gonna be okay." Mike attempted to calm me down. I shook my head, "You don't know that Mike." he shrugged "Something might be wrong but we both need to stay relaxed and hope for the best." I looked up into his eyes, they were red and slightly hazy. "You got high when you went into the bathroom didn't you." "Noooo." I rolled my eyes. "Get out." "Bab-" "Did I fucking stutter? Get the fuck out of here Mike. And stay away from Sam. And leave your keys, I don't need a dead husband." Mike dropped my hand and walked out of the room. I huffed and Dr. K walked back in with a nurse, "Everything okay?" "Just peachy." she nodded.

The nurse ran the sonogram machine over my stomach and I heard our daughter's heart beat coming from the speakers attached to it. I smiled, but it slowly started going away as I heard her heart beat slow down and get softer. "Doctor." Dr.K nodded "Okay Karen, we need to do a C section now." "Wha-" "Nurse Joy go get Dr. Mansala and prep the OR." the nurse nodded and quickly ran out of the room. "What's going on?" "Karen, everything is going to be okay but we need you to relax." I felt my fingers being to tingle, I couldn't be having a panic attack now. "Karen look at me, everything is going to be okay." I felt tears pour down my cheeks, nurses came running into the room and they moved me onto a gurney. "Okay Karen I need you to count backwards from 10." another doctor said putting a mask on my face. I struggled only to fail in the long run.

Mike's Point of View

I walked into the waiting room and Ms.Perry looked up at me. "Hey sweetie how's Karen doin?" "Still at 5 centimeters, the doctor wanted to do a sonogram just to make sure the babys doing okay." "Why are you high Micheal?" I looked up at her to see a disappointment in her eyes. "I've never done this before... I was stressing and I thought it would help." she shook her head and adjusted Sam in her arms. "Mike you can't do this anymore, okay? Promise me you wont." I nodded "I promise." "Okay."

We sat there in silence for a few minutes before Dr. K walked into the waiting room. "Hey Mike, I need to talk to you for a quick minute." I nodded and followed her to the corner of the waiting room. "How's Karen?" Dr. K paused "Your daughter wasn't in position to come out, when a baby comes out natural birth it needs to be head first tummy down. What happened was she was sideways and what happened was her umbilical cord was wrapping around her stomach. So right now Karen is in the operating room getting a C section, you don't need to worry she's going to be fine." I nodded "Please make sure she's okay." Dr.K nodded "You can come back if you'd-" "Dr. K we need you in OR 4." a nurse came running out of the room connecting the main hall to the waiting room. "Never mind, sit with Sam we'll call you in when Karen wakes up." I nodded and walked back to where Mrs.Perry was sitting. "What's going on?" "Karen needed a C section." she nodded "Is the baby okay?" "Tried coming out sideways with her umbilical cord wrapped around her tummy." Mrs. Perry nodded and Sam started stirring in her arms. "Here I got him." I took Sam from her and he looked up at me. He was really sleepy "Papa were mommy?" "Mommy's having the baby sweet heart." Sam yawned "Wat ime is it Papa?" "3 am." I answered him after looking down at my watch. "I sleepy." "Papa's sleepy too love." I kissed his forehead and he settled into my arms. I looked over at Mrs. Perry to see her already dosing off. I chuckled and let my eyes close after a while.
