I'll Fight For You
Four
The dreams have started again. Can I call them dreams? I'm not sure. They're memories, but I don't remember them. The things I see in my sleep flick back and forth. First I see a hundred different images flashing in front of my eyes, until they begin to slow down and I can get clarity. They turn into an actual scene of what happened in there. But in between that I could see the things I was doing to myself and the things everyone else was doing to me in there. But it wasn't me. I was looking through someone else's eyes.
The dreams are happening constantly. Sometimes I'm not even sleeping, I just blank out for a little while. I don't mind if this happens when I'm with Jaime. Jaime has seen me at my worst. But if it happens at school then there's nothing I can do.
At school Vic has been talking to me more and more. I think after that night he's decided he wants to find out what's wrong with me. I just hope he never finds out. I was walking to the cafeteria. I held my tray and felt someone standing behind me. Their hand touched the small of my back and I turned around. Vic was smiling at me.
"Hi." I said.
"Hey Hannah," Vic replied. "What are you up to?"
"Getting lunch." I laughed.
"Right," he shook his head. "Me too."
"Are you okay?" I frowned.
"Yeah," he nodded. "You should come sit with us."
"Why?"
"Jaime wants you to." he explained.
"How come?"
"He likes your friend."
"Which one?" I bit my lip. Vic looked at me before he replied.
"Jessica. He has a crush on her."
"On Jessica?" I laughed. "He never told me."
"I wasn't supposed to tell you. So I never said anything."
"Your secret is safe with me." I patted his arm.
I moved down the line and got my food. I went to walk over to Jess but felt Vic grab my wrist gently. "We should hang out." he told me.
"What do you mean?"
"You should come to my house and we should hang out. Just you and me, because I think you're cool."
"Um..." I muttered.
"You don't want to," he sighed. "Sorry, forget I said anything." Vic rushed and went to walk away.
"Vic," I stopped him. "I do want to hang out. Just not this week."
"Oh, great." he said brightly and went over to his table. I looked after him. Was I right to say that? I walked over to my usual table and saw the girls already there.
"Hi Han'." Jess grinned.
"Hey, do you feel like eating with my brother and his friends today?" I asked.
"Who's he?" Jess frowned.
"The back table," I explained. "He's the one with the hair." I laughed. I saw Jess craning her neck to stop him.
"The one poking that Victor boy in the face?" she asked and I nodded.
"He has a crush on you." I told her quietly.
"Really?" her eyes brightened. I nodded and Jess smiled. "He's really cute," she added. Jess turned to the others. "Are you coming?"
"To sit there? No. They're guys and rockers, Jess." Hope widened her eyes.
"Stop being silly. They're okay."
"He's my brother." I snapped.
"Whatever." they rolled their eyes.
"Leave them." Jess shook her head. I took Jess's arm and led her away.
"What's up with them?" I asked.
"Leave them. I don't care." Jess shrugged.
We stopped in front of the back table. They boys looked up and I saw Jaime smile widely at Jess. "Hey." Jaime said, not really acknowledging me.
"Hi. I'm Jess." she introduced herself.
"I'm Jaime."
"Hello Jaime!" I waved a hand in front of his face. Jaime sat back in his chair and glared at me.
"Hannah said we could sit with you." Jess said quickly.
"Sure." Jaime immediately made room for her.
"Hannah." Vic urged me over. I sat down next to him, with Mike and Tony opposite me.
"Don't you feel left you, Turtle?" Mike commented and slung his arm around Tony's shoulder.
"So, next week?" Vic asked.
"What?" I asked stupidly.
"Can we hang out next week?"
"Oh, sure." I smiled.
"And maybe I could say hey to you later."
"What's happening later?"
"I'm coming to yours. We're all hanging out." Vic explained.
"If you want to." I shrugged.
Vic looked sideways at me before he threw a chunk of chicken in his mouth. I watched him chew his food and my head came smashing off of the table. It hurt but that wasn't important. I could feel the tray digging into my forehead but I couldn't move. Behind the closed lids of my eyes I could see Vic sitting a distance away chewing on his food. My breathing was rushed and my pulse was fast.
I could finally open my eyes. "Hannah!" I heard Jaime say firmly. I lifted my head up and rubbed where I had hit it.
"You okay?" Vic asked concerned.
"Yeah." I mumbled.
"What happened?" Mike asked.
"I must have blacked out for a second. Sorry guys." I said guiltily. Vic had his hand on my back but I was looking at Jaime. He was widening his eyes at me and I nodded.
"Let's get something for your head." Jess urged.
"I'm okay." I promised her.
"No, it'll only take a second."
"Fine." I agreed. I stood up and Jess linked her arm with mine.
"What happened back there?" she asked once we were out of the cafeteria.
"It's hard to explain," I sighed. I don't want to lie to Jess. "Sometimes weird things happen to me. I'm not sure why, but it's nothing to be worried about."
"Will you tell me? Later."
"When I'm ready." I nodded.
"Okay," Jess squeezed my hand. "Now let's get some ice."
Notes
Hey! What did you think? Not very creepy, but I'm building up. Does Vic like Hannah? Does Hannah like Vic? How will things go? When will we see Lauren again? :)
