Somebody's Supposed to Fall In Love

Chapter Twenty-Nine: Tis The Season

“Dammit Jaime! Give me five minutes!” I shouted through the closed door that concealed Jaime. I screwed in the black diamond earrings Vic gave me for Christmas before he went with his family to see his grandparents. He’s only been gone almost two weeks and I miss him like crazy! The comforting warmth that emitted from his gorgeous brown eyes, the way his smile made my stomach flip, the feel of his hand holding mine and—

“Pheonix Slade if you don’t come out right now, Zoey and I are leaving you!” Jaime banged on the door.

“Impatient fucker,” I muttered, stomping on my shoes.

“I heard that!” His voice called from a distance.

I’ll admit I’ve been a little difficult since Vic left for Christmas vacation. I just feel uneasy and like my days are so foreign without seeing him every day. I’m not clingy, It’s just weird not physically having him there. I for damn sure ain’t saying he’s my everything, no one should ever let it get that far—I’m just so tangled up in him!
I glanced around for anything important as I stepped out of my room, down the stairs and into Jaime’s car. Zoey’s eyes stared at me as I slid into the back seat, her eyebrows arched.

“Why does it suddenly take you three centuries to get dressed?” Zoey huffed, swinging back towards the front and crossing her arms.
I craned my neck to see her, “I didn’t even want to come.”

“You need to get out of the house! Vacation is almost over and you’ve done nothing fun,” Zoey pointed out.

“Maybe I enjoy my bed and pajamas,” I muttered.

“We can’t let you wallow in a pit full of the lack of Vic,” Jaime scoffed, pulling off.

I straightened up, “My behavior has nothing to do with Vic.”

“Yeah, and the sky isn’t blue,” Zoey mocked, waving her hands around.

I sat back in the chair, losing my drive to fight the accusation, “Whatever. Where are we even going?”

“Out to eat!” Zoey squealed, clapping her hands. I noticed Jaime peek over at a grinning Zoey and smiled softly.

“So are you guys like, a thing?” I asked obnoxiously, smirking.
Jaime’s shoulders visibly tensed and he seemed much more focused on the road.

“Well um, no,” Zoey laughed nervously.

“Why not?”

“Erm…we uh…I um…”

“Would you look at that? We’re here!” Jaime shouted anxiously, yanking the keys out the ignition and jumping out the car.

Their discomfort brought me enough satisfaction to call it even for dragging me out of my cozy bed so I let it go and got out of the car with a flustered Zoey.

Maybe if I pester them enough they’ll get a move on.

‘You and Vic aren’t official,’
Phe stated matter-or-factly.

Shut the hell up,
I snapped.

It’s been a while since her blunt statements got to me but that’s a touchy subject.

‘Why don’t you pressure Vic like your pressuring them?

Why don’t you stop being a dick?

‘Just putting the more important things on your mind,’
she explained monotonously, unaffected by my bitchy-behavior.

We were at a pretty fancy place! The outside of the restaurant was red brick, the door was glass and elegantly shaped windows surrounded the walls.

“Can we even pay for water here?” I joked.

Zoey grabbed Jaime and I’s arms and dragged us towards the entrance.
Our arrival was made known by the sound of the bell on the door ringing as it opened and shut behind us.

“Do we seat ourselves?” I asked, not seeing a podium or line.

“Yep! I’m going to go to the bathroom first though,” Jaime smiled. Zoey nodded, a repressed smile on her face as she pulled me towards a table. I noticed the table only had two chairs, one of which were taken by someone with shoulder-length hair and backwards snapback. As we approached the side of the table, my stomach dropped. Vic stood from the chair, grinning and opening his arms. Like a total child, I rushed into his arms and embraced him. I pulled away from him and slapped his chest playfully.

“What was that for?” he asked, mocking hurt.

“For not telling me you were in town! How long have you been home?” I smiled.

“I got back late last night,” he informed. “Worst flight ever.”
I remembered Zoey was behind me so I turned around. She was standing with her hands behind her back and a painfully broad smile on her face.

“I’m sorry! It’s just that you guys are so cute!” she squealed, walking off to probably find Himes.
Vic gently guided me to my seat and then took his.

“Wait!” I realized, “Is this a date?!”
Several people passing by glanced at me.

“Yeah, we have yet to have an actual date,” he grinned.

“I wish you would have told me so I could dress a little nicer,” I pouted while ruffling my hair. I glanced down at my fuzzy sweater, velvet and leather skinnies and platform sneakers.

“You look gorgeous,” he smiled shyly, raising his hand to call for the waiter.
As the waiter came I reached over the table and grabbed the hand resting on the table.

“Thank You.”

“I see you’re wearing the earrings I got you,” Vic observed, ghosting his finger over the one in my left ear.

“Yes. They’re truly gorgeous—perfect even.”
Vic and I ordered a simple pasta dish and two sodas once the waiter arrived.

“They reminded me so much of you, I hoped they’d be a perfect Christmas gift.”

“Speaking of Christmas gifts! I know it’s late, but I’ve got something for you aswell,” I smirked.
Vic shook his head, “No need, honestly I don’t need anyth-”

“Oh hush,” I interrupted, getting out the flat box. I had kept it with me in my purse since I never knew when Vic would be back or when I’d have the opportunity to give it to him. I handed him the blue box, the silk white bow shimmering in the dim light.

He reluctantly pulled off the lid and a smile slowly curled his lips.

“Do you like it?” I asked nervously.

He pulled out the silver chain with his favorite guitar pick attached to it.

“I love it—its perfect! But one question.”

“Hm?”

“How’d you get my favorite pick?”

I smiled, “I asked Mike if you had a favorite pick since I already had the idea to put it on a necklace. I know how much you love music and composing songs with your guitar so I figured why not do something special that represented one of your biggest passions. I explained that to him and he slipped it to me before you guys left for vacation..”

Laughing, he snapped the necklace around his neck, “This is perfect, I’ll always have one of my favorite things with me. Thanks Nix.”

“No problem,” I blushed.

“So…” I sighed, staring out into the night.

“Yeah…” Vic coughed.

We were standing on my front porch, the motion detecting light illuminating us.

“Phoenix can I ask you something?” Vic suddenly inquired.

“Of course.”

“Would you…um…would you be my girlfriend?” Vic blurted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.

I dipped a bit to meet his lips and kissed him. As expected, I giggled thus breaking the kiss.

“Absolutely. I’d love to be your girlfriend.”

Grinning, Vic took me in his arms and kissed me again, the porch light eventually flickering off.

Notes

I'm currently in the process of moving overseas so I'm doing the story in the small windows of time that I have throughout the week. Personal Opinion? This is complete shit. I don't have the chance to revise like I usually do and its killing me to post this but I don't want to make you guys wait too long. Normally, I write several different versions but that's too difficult at the moment and I can't take it. Sorry! This is a really important moment and I wanna do it better but its almost chapter thirty and there was nothing official xD Apologies for the wait!

Question of the Day: What'd you think of the gifts? The date? The official-ness?!

Hey guys its me, R.W. I broke my laptop (yes the new one I just freaking got) and got it back 2 days ago. I've tried signing in with my google account and its not allowing me to! So I made a new one with my tumblr in hopes of getting some help. Is there anyway I can get my account back? Or transfer my story? I'd be devastated if I lost access to everything.

If I do, have to start over I will rewrite this story. I read through it before I broke my computer and I feel that there is a difference in "skill" when you read chapter 1 vs. chapter 41. It's very cringy actually.SO, IF THERE'S NO SOLUTION, I may just make serious revisions via copy+paste ==> microsoft word, edit and post it on the account I am currently posting this comment with. Thanks for reading through this and I'd appreciate help if you know anything! Comment or message me with tips and suggestions please!
