The List

#4 Start a Journal then Give Up

I yawned widely and walked through into the front lounge. I sat next to Tony and tucked my legs up by my chest. Tony smiled at me and I leant against him. He patted me on the shoulder and laughed. “Tired?” Tony teased.
“Very,” I yawned again.
“Here,” he said and passed me a blank note book.
“What’s this?” I asked.
“Number four, start a journal,”
“Thank you!” I grinned. I hugged Tony quickly and grabbed a pen from the side. I started writing my first and only entry. The first thing that came to mind was my family.
“What you writing about?” Tony asked casually.
“My grandmother,” I explained, “she was trying to call me then ignoring my calls for God knows how long. And when she finally did speak to me I was too tired for her shit,” I explained. “Plus, she doesn’t make sense,”
“Who doesn’t make sense?” Vic asked as he joined us.
“My grandmother,”
“Who’s grandmother?” Mike asked, joining as well.
“Mine,” I sighed. “She’s possibly the most Spanish woman ever born. Old, small, very angry and she makes up words just to throw me off,”
“You’re Spanish?” Mike asked and raised his eyebrows.
“Por supuesto. ¿No me veo así?” I asked. (Of course. Don’t I look it?)
“Un poco,” Vic laughed. (A bit.)
“Times like this call for tacos,” Tony joked.
“Hay que decirlo en español,” Mike reprimanded. (You have to say it in Spanish.)
“Fine,” Tony rolled his eyes. “Vamos a pedir tacos?” (Shall we order tacos?)
“¿Debemos dejar de hablar en españoI?” I asked hopefully. (Shall we stop talking in Spanish?)
“Nunca,” Mike grinned. (Never.)
“Sólo esperar a Jaime a unirse pulg Él habla más español y estoy bastante seguro de que él pensaría que había caído en una pesadilla si nos encontró,” Vic laughed. (Just wait for Jaime to join in. He speaks the most Spanish and I’m pretty sure he'd think he'd fallen into a nightmare if he found us.)
“Hey guys,”Jaime said walking over. “You okay?” he asked.
“Sí,” we all replied in unison. (Yeah.)
“Not you too. There’s a crazy Spanish lady on the phone for you, Kay'," he explained and handed me my phone.
“That would be my grandmother,” I groaned. “I'm going into the back lounge,” I explained and walked away. I waited until I was alone until I put my phone to my ear. “Hola?” I asked. (Hello.)
“Kayleigh, su madre dice que lo preocupada que está. Usted deja su trabajo sea un poco groupie para los estadounidenses. Tengo que preguntar por qué usted puedes ser tan ingenuo?” my grandmother demanded. (Kayleigh, your mother says how worried she is. You leave your work to be some groupie for Americans. I need to ask why you would you be so naive?)
“Ella no tiene que estar preocupado. Tengo un trabajo para volver a y yo estoy haciendo esto por Ryan. Y en cuanto a los americanos, son mexicanos,” I said firmly. (She doesn't need to be worried. I have a job to go back to and I'm doing this for Ryan. And as for the Americans, they're Mexican.)
“Ryan?” she echoed.
“Supongo que te han dicho sobre la lista de balde? Eso es lo que estoy haciendo,” I replied. (I suppose you've been told about the bucket list? That's what I'm doing.)
“¡Tonterías! Usted está huyendo de sus responsabilidades y su dolor, chica,” she snapped. “Ryan no quiere esto!” (Nonsense! You are running away from your responsibilities and your grief, girl. Ryan would not want this!)
“Lo siento, pero no tengo mucho respeto por su opinión sobre, Ryan. que estaba ausente en su vida. si quiero dejar por un tiempo que puedo, a menos que esté dispuesto a llevarme a casa físicamente. Y yo deseo que no me llames más, no quiero escuchar tu voz condescendiente!” I spat. (Sorry, but I don't have much respect for your opinion on, Ryan. You were absent in his life. If I want to leave for some time I can, unless you're willing to physically take me back home. And I wish for you to not call me anymore, I don't wish to hear your condescending voice.)
“¿Cómo se atreve usted, niño!” she hissed. (How dare you, child!)
“Cállate, vieja. Usted, evidentemente, no le importa que yo he perdido recientemente a mi hermano. Así que voy a decir una vez, si me llamas otra vez no voy a contestar. Si lo haces varias veces voy a bloquear su número.” I explained angrily. (Be quiet, old woman. You obviously don't care that I have recently lost my brother. So I am going to tell you one time, if you call me again I will not answer. If you do it repeatedly I will block your number.)
“Kayleigh!” my grandmother spat angrily.
“Déjame mierda solo. No me gusta usted, y él tampoco. Y mi madre lo sabI±@% finished angrily. (Leave me the fuck alone. I do not like you, and neither did he. And my mother knows that.) I slammed by phone onto the sofa and screamed. The door opened and Mike walked in.
“Kayleigh?” he asked cautiously.
“She’s such a fucking bitch!” I yelled.
“Come on. Come and sit with us,” he urged. But I ran to Mike. I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face into his chest. I heard him sigh and he wrapped his arms around me. I shook a little and he held me. “Shhh. It’s okay,” Mike soothed. He patted my back softly and hugged me.
Hope you enjoyed this. Image of Tony. I put the English translation in brackets. Thank you for all the feedback and p,ease let me know what you think! I'll update soon :)
