We Can Sing This On The Way Home

One.

~*Lottie’s POV*~
“Alright, everybody! This one is for all of the All Time Low and Pierce The Veil fans out there. Here is your chance to actually live like rock stars…or groupies, depending on whatever kinky stuff you’re into, with actual rock stars themselves.” The radio presenter announces cheerfully after the last song fades out and was replaced by the ever annoying, but most definitely catchy, jingle filled the silence a second later.

Rachel who has been living with me for just over a year now; ever since she managed to get away from that abusive asshole of an ex-boyfriend of hers, so she managed to hear everything that the presenter had just announced, causing her to rush out of the guest bedroom that she has claimed as her own and over to the couch where I was currently perched with my laptop open and the radio open in my iTunes as background noise.

It has been almost two whole weeks since we saw Pierce The Veil live and almost ended up getting caught venturing around their dressing room by their incredibly attractive drummer, Michael Christopher Fuentes. We still don’t know whether or not he saw our faces, but I think that if we ever did end up meeting him then I don’t think that either of us would have the confidence to ask him about it.

“Lottie, turn that up right now!” Rachel demands, pulling me from my thoughts as she kneels down on the couch opposite from me, leaning forwards slightly so that her ears were closer to the laptop speakers.

I quickly open up my iTunes tab and drag the volume control up until it wouldn’t go any further before turning the laptop speakers up until we could both hear the radio presenters voice more clearly.

“For your chance to live the rock star dream, you and a friend will get the chance to spend a whopping six months on tour with Pierce The Veil and All Time Low, a tour that will no doubt take you all across the U.S.! How can you enter this I hear you ask? Well, all you have to do, is be our fourth caller; so don’t waste any time, as soon as you hear the number get in contact with us and you may just be that lucky caller.” He explained in that calm, professional voice that all radio presenters seem to use, but how he manages it; I will never know as just hearing about this huge prize is making me want to scream in excitement.

“Lottie! We so need to call in!” Rachel screams at me as she grabs a hold of my cell phone and chucks it towards me where I manage to catch it before it knocked my laptop off of my lap where it was balancing on my knees and onto the floor.

Rachel gave me an apologetic look as she held up her hands in defence, thinking that I would chuck one of the cushions at her, which I just might have done if the radio presenter hadn’t started to talk again with that all important number.

“Here is the number that you need to dial; 888-99-idobi for your chance to be our lucky caller, get dialling…now!”

“Dial it! Dial it! Come on…” Rachel was screaming as she practically jumped up and down on her knees, her hands motioning for me to hurry up.

This was all going way too fast for my mind to actually comprehend what was happening, but my fingers were pressing the numbers as fast as they could and before I could even blink, my thumb had already clicked on the bright green call button and the phone was being brought up to my ear.

As I wait nervously for an answer, I could feel my mouth and lungs involuntarily hold my breath, my mind too scared to let it go just in case it somehow jinxed our chances of winning; sounds stupid, I know but when it comes to these kinds of things I can‘t help but feel a little bit superstitious. In a split second after the phone was placed against my ear, the familiar ringing sound could be heard and I found myself start to grin like a fool.

It’s ringing! I mouth over to where Rachel was kneeling, her body shaking with the excited scream that she was no doubt holding in. I was about to mouth something else to hear when the phone stopped ringing, and all that could be heard was the sound of someone breathing on the other end of the line before a voice spoke out through both the laptop and phone.

“Hey there, you‘ve reached the idobi radio station, are you calling in about the Pierce The Veil and All Time Low competition?” The radio presenter asked in a cheerful tone as I felt my heart skip a beat.

“Y-Yes…” I stuttered, my palms were starting to sweat as I glanced towards Rachel and my throat felt as though it was going to close up at any second.

Was this actually happening? Did I actually manage to get through to the station? If this was really happening and my mind wasn‘t playing a mean trick on me, then it would most definitely be a dream come true for the both of us. As I sit there waiting for the radio presenter to respond, I can’t help but think that we might actually be in with a real chance of winning.

“A-Am I caller number four?” I ask nervously as my heart starts to beat hard against my ribcage, the hand that was placed on top of my leg was shaking so much that I thought that it would never stop.

“Whoa, you have an accent!” The radio presenter says in surprise as he brushes off my question, keeping me in suspense just that little while longer. “What‘s your name?”

Rachel who was listening on the laptop, started to laugh hysterically at the presenters response, while I felt my cheeks heat up. Of course my accent would seem to be surprising to those who aren’t used to seeing or hearing me; It’s not one that’s generally heard a lot around this part of the country.

“Yes, I do. I’m British.” I explain shortly, knowing that if the presenter doesn’t answer my question soon then my anxiety will start to get the better of me and I definitely don‘t want that to happen. “My name is Lottie.”

The presenter let out a hearty laugh before replying, with yet another question: “That is awesome! Well, Lottie…how badly do you want to win this competition?”

I look over to where Rachel was sat and grinned as she shouted in the general direction of the phone, myself nodding vigorously at her response to the question before repeating it into the receiver of my cell phone for the presenter to hear. “Really, really badly!”

“Is that your friend I can hear in the background?” He asks curiously, his voice laced with amusement; he knows just how much he‘s teasing us yet he won‘t give anything up until we play along with his little game, well…two of us can play this game.

“Yes, it‘s my best friend; Rachel.” I reply, a hint of annoyance and frustration lacing my voice as my foot starts to tap impatiently on the floor; it was one of my many nervous habits and one which drives Rachel absolutely crazy.

“I won‘t keep you in suspense any longer then…So, it‘s my absolute pleasure to announce that you are indeed caller number four! Congratulations, you will be spending six long months on the road with Pierce The Veil and All Time Low!”

As soon as the presenter said that I was caller number four, I immediately dropped my cell phone into my lap which then fell onto the floor with a soft thump as I jumped up from my seat and over to where Rachel was as she grabbed a hold of my hands and danced with me around the coffee table that separated the two couches; an excited scream passing through her lips.

“Happens every time…” We heard the radio presenter chuckle as we stopped dancing to look at each other, our eyes meeting and without saying anything, I already know that we were thinking the exact same thing.

“We are going on tour with-” I start to say, a huge grin making it’s way onto my face, my hands giving Rachel‘s a little squeeze as she grins back at me before sucking in a breath.

“PIERCE THE VEIL AND ALL TIME LOW!” We both scream in unison.

Suddenly remembering that the presenter was still on the phone, and more importantly that we were still live on air, I release Rachel’s hands from my grip and rush back over to my cell, picking it up and putting it to my ear once more as I take in a couple of deep breaths.

“Thank you so, so much! Really, thank you! You have no idea how much this means to us!” I breathe out as the tears start to fill my eyes.

It’s true, not only was this a big deal for Rachel, as All Time Low was the band that had saved her and gave her back the hope that she had lost when she was with her abusive ex, but this was a big deal for me too as for me, it was Pierce The Veil that saved me from the deep depression that I had found myself in during the last two years of High School and all throughout college; Vic‘s lyrics literally saved me and I‘ve never had the chance to thank him…until now, that is.

After informing us that we needed to come down to the station as soon as possible, the radio presenter congratulated us one more time and asked us to choose a song to be played after the next commercial break, which we of course decided on ‘King For A Day Ft. Kellin Quinn’ by Pierce The Veil and informed him that we would be at the studio in under half an hour.

As I stuff my cell phone into the back pocket of my jeans, I can’t help but stop for a second and let everything sink in…I was going to be joining my two favourite bands on tour for six whole months. Seriously, how many people can say that they’ve done that in their lifetime? Probably not many, and myself and Rachel just so happen to be two of the lucky ones.

Grabbing my both my car keys and house keys, Rachel and I run out into the hallway to pull our shoes on before heading out of the front door, locking up behind us and walking at a brisk pace to the car. It didn’t take us long to get to the radio station, having walked past it a fair few times on a weekly basis to get to the college campus, I could have made my way there blindfolded.

Putting the car into neutral, I shut off the engine and reach for my seatbelt, Rachel didn’t even bother to wait until I had mine off before she was jumping out of the car. I follow suit and lock the doors behind me before running to catch up with her. We walked into the building and up to the reception desk where the receptionist kindly pointed us in the right direction of the recording booth. Looking in through the huge window, the presenter held a finger up at us, signalling for us to wait a second before turning his attention back to the microphone in front of him.

“So, that’s all what’s coming up next on idobi radio…” The presenter speaks clearly into the microphone before pressing a button which made the ‘On Air’ light go out as he motions for us to step into the studio booth and to take a seat in front him, which we obliged happily.

“Welcome to the idobi radio studio girls. I‘m radio presenter Gunz, now…which one of you is the Brit?” He asks as he looks between us with a warm smile on his face as he leans forward in his seat, his hands locked together on the table in front of him.

“That would be me…” I speak up quietly as I raise my hand.

Gunz shot me a wide smile before turning to look at Rachel.

“So, then that would make you Rachel, correct?” He asks as Rachel nods in response, he gives her a little wave before continuing. “I think that it goes without saying that you two girls are very lucky. We don‘t offer things like this out often or in fact, ever! This is most definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

“I wouldn’t necessarily say that it was down to luck…it was more timing than anything.” I admit sheepishly as I look down at my hands which was gripping the edge of my t-shirt, another nervous habit that I seemed to have.

“Well, either way…here are your passes; these babies will let you go wherever you want at each venue, which means that you‘ll be able to head backstage without getting any hassle from the security guards or thrown out for not having permission…” Gunz explains as he produces two ‘Access All Areas’ from a drawer underneath the sound desk and handed them over to us, which we both took eagerly.

At the last part, I couldn’t help but send a knowing glance over at Rachel who currently was trying to suppress her laughter. Gunz looked between us with a look of confusion on face; if I didn’t know any better, then I could have sworn that he knew the reason behind our giggling, but that‘s impossible.

“Okay, so here is some information that you will need to know. Starting tomorrow, you will both be flown out to Tampa Bay, Florida in order to meet up with both bands at a exclusive five-star hotel where you will all be staying for the first couple of days…This will give you a chance to get to know the bands before you all hit the road to Orlando, Florida where the tour officially starts.” Gunz explains, glancing between us every once in a while as he hits another button on the sound desk, causing another song to play through the airwaves while he finishes talking to us. “Any questions?”

I thought for a moment before shaking my head, but Rachel raised her hand.

“I just have one question…Seeing as we’re going to be on the road for six months, do we have to pay for anything?” She asked curiously as I turned my attention to Gunz.

Rachel did have a point, what were we going to do about money? There was no way that I would be able to afford all of the hotel rooms and dinners that we would no doubt need while we’re on the road, especially seeing as though I recently quit my dead-end job at the local Hot Topic store.

“Nope, you don‘t have to worry about any of that; it‘s an all expenses paid trip which means that everything is already paid for - food, accommodation, everything.” He replies as our mouths drop open in awe.

This seriously can’t be real. This has to be my mind playing a really sick joke on me while I sleep but just to make sure, I quickly pinch at my skin on my left hand and let out a small hiss before shaking it; well, at least now I know that I’m definitely not dreaming, which is a good thing.

“Oh, actually I do have a question.” I say, as a sudden realisation came over me. “Seeing as though they‘re going to be taking some time out from touring for a while, will Kellin and the rest of Sleeping With Sirens be making an appearance on the tour to sing with Vic?”

“That is something that you‘re just going to have to ask Pierce The Veil when you meet them tomorrow afternoon.” Gunz smiles before sending me a small wink in my direction.

“This is going to be so…awesome!” Rachel shouts as she jumps up from her seat to jump up and down, surprising both myself and Gunz as we let out a short laugh, watching as she started to place kiss after kiss onto the laminated tour pass.

Shaking my head, I lean back in my seat and look down at my own tour pass. As of tomorrow morning, we shall be making our way to Tampa Bay, Florida to start an adventure that I know will change our lives forever…and I honestly can’t wait.
