Tangled In The Great Escape

SKYE'S POV

Getting on the school bus, I rushed to the first spare window seat in sight and plopped myself down. Taking out my earphones, I put them both in before unlocking my phone and scrolling through my songs. Unsure of exactly what song to pick, I just settled with playing the whole 'Put Yourself Back Together' album by Real Friends.

Being my first time on the school bus, I felt a little anxious. My old school bus was horrible - there was always food fights, normal fights and a lot of silly name calling. Feeling the worry in me grow, I began to focus on the music and not the concerns. Jolting, the bus came to a hault and a bunch of kids piled on. Looking up, I noticed Mike getting on. Noticing me, he planted his bum down on the seat next to me.

'You didn't get the bus yesterday, did you?'

'No,' I said. 'I got a lift yesterday. I thought you would've driven?'

'My ass of a brother took the car and left without me,' he scoffed. 'He was pissed because I owed him money but bought myself a little,' he made a smoking gesture as he looked at me. Oh, he does and brags about doing drugs? He couldn't be more of a douchebag.

'I get you,' I said, trying to make it obvious that I had two earphones in. Completely oblivious, he continued to talk to me. Since I'd came to the conclusion that I didn't like Mike, I discretely turned my music up and allowed it to drown out his muffled voice for the remainder of the journey.

Noticing the school gates, I pulled out my earphones and shoved them in my bag. Mike winked at me before taking to his feet and pulling me off the bus. He dragged me across the grassy patch and in the direction of the car park.

'Where are we going?'

'I'm looking for Evan,' he mumbled. 'Oh, wait here,' he said, rushing off. I watched as he jogged towards Vic who was getting out of his car, another tanned boy also getting out. I could tell from Mike's body language that he was shouting at Vic, but what for? The boy who also got out the car stared at me as I stood awkwardly in the middle of the car park. He asked Mike something, causing him to toss his arm in my direction, before the boy proceeded to approach me.

'Hey,' he said. 'I'm Jaime.'

'Hey Jaime, what's going on?' I asked, a little worried as the two looked furious at each other.

'Siblings,' he shrugged, 'what can you do? I just felt pretty weird standing over there, and I seen that Mike ditched you here, so I thought I'd come over.'

'Cool,' I smiled, he's nice. 'I'm Skye by the way.'

'I know,' he smiled knowingly - it wasn't as though he'd just heard about the new girl though, it seemed like more.

'No,' sighed Mike, 'you multiply that!'

'Oh for god sake,' I groaned. Last period was never a good time to be doing such complex work.

'Hey, why don't you come over to mine after school? I can help you out some more.' Initially I was disgusted by the thought, but then I remembered who his brother was.

'Uh, okay,' I nodded.

'Awesome,' he smiled triumphantly.

Unfortunately, the rest of the period flew by. Before I knew it, Mike was forcing me in to a seat on the bus and patting my knee as he began to drive away from the school. Feeling his hand slide up towards my thigh, I began to tense up as he grazed my fresh cuts.

We arrived at his stop and he pulled me up, grinning widely, and lead me off the bus. We shared small talk about things like food, school and the internet before reaching his house. As we began to walk towards his door, I smiled as I noticed the car Vic was in parked in the garage.

'Come on,' he said, taking my hand and pulling me through the door. Slamming it shut, he leaned close to me for a second before snapping his head away and rushing up the stairs. Following him, I let my bag slide down my arms as he opened his bedroom door. I wonder how many girls he's done this to?

'I'm gonna get a beer before my parents are home,' he said. 'Want one?'

'No thanks, I'll just get my stuff out.' Nodding, he looked at me with sight disappointment before heading out the door. That's right, I am hear to learn Math and Math only. You can keep your overused pack in that demin sack, thank you very much.

Once I'd pulled out the required books, I sat on the floor and looked out the door. Vic rushed past with a book in one hand and a guitar in the other, what's he doing?

'Mmm,' said Mike as he entered, taking a sip of his Fosters. 'Okay, where do you want to start?'

'What about gradients?' I suggested.

'M'kay,' he said, pulling out his book and flipping to the required page.

VIC'S POV

Hearing a girls voice in Mike's room, I grabbed my guitar and lyric book before rushing to my room (which, unfortunately, was adjacent to his). Sitting myself down on my bed, I began to strum softly as I worked on some of my songs.

Were you honest when you said,
"I could never leave your bed",
Wake me up and let me know you're alive
And will you fall in love again?
Is the scent slowly spreading?
I've been answering machines all night

And are the doctors dancing in
While the ambulances sing?
Another boy without a sharper knife...

Finding myself stuck as I tried to think of a chorus, tapped my pencil against my book. I could hear the muffled noise of Mike and the girl - he seemed to be laughing a lot more than she was. Looking to my clock, I realised that it was half 6. Wow, has he lost it? There's usually silent by now. They're usually eating each other by half 5.

SKYE'S POV

'Oh, I better go,' I said, realising it was nearly 7 o'clock. 'Thanks for the help,' I said, shoving all my things into my bag.

'It's not bother,' he replied, standing up and stretching. 'I'll walk you to the door.'

Throwing my bag over my shoulder, I followed Mike as he guided me to the door. He leaned past me and grabbed the handle, taking a step forward so that I was pinned to the door. He glanced down my lips and I scrunched up my face, making it obvious I wasn't wanting to kiss.

'Thanks again,' I chimed, whipping round and staring at the closed door. He opened it and let me out, waving at me as I exited the house.

That was close.

After dinner and a small conversation with my Mum, I headed upstairs. Opening my laptop up, I clicked on Facebook and logged in. 20 new friend requests popped up, I don't know half of these people? I've never seen them in any of my classes either.

Looking at the 'people you may know' bit, I spotted Vic's account. Should I add him? I better accept the others first, make it look as though I'm just adding loads of people. Accepting the majority of requests, I typed 'Vic' in the search bar and clicked the link to his profile.

I bit my lip as I glanced briefly at his profile picture, he is freaking adorable. Pressing 'add as friend', I hurried off his page in case I accidentally like something.

A few minutes later, whilst I was going through my newsfeed, a notice popped up informing me that Vic had accepted.

Stop smiling, Skye. You barely know the boy. Stop. It.
