Tear This Place Apart

Chapter 3

Okay, I didn't mean to slip out the words 'no shit Sherlock' to my new neighbor. Especially to someone like him.

I still couldn't believe that he insisted on fixing my faulty sink. But then again, he said that if my sink doesn't get fixed as soon as possible, his apartment's gonna get wet too. So technically he's just trying to save his ass. Gotta be it.

He grabbed his tools from his apartment, went inside my apartment bathroom , and got straight to work on the faulty sink. While he was working, I felt this air of awkwardness around me. What should I do ? Should I sit down and wait ? Should I talk to him ? Should I offer him a drink ? Then again, I just moved in, and there were no drinks in the fridge yet. I could use my phone, but sadly the battery's dead. My books were still in boxes, and it's such a hassle to take them out now. Maybe I should just watch him. Have to admit, he wasn't bad looking.

'Hey, earth to new neighbor.'

I was surprised by the reality check my new neighbor gave me. Turns out that I was deep in my thoughts while my sink was being repaired by him.

'So, your sink's fine, for now.' he said.

I raised my eyebrow. 'What do you mean "for now" ?'

'Well, I guess you don't know about this, so I'll just go straight to the point. Your apartment's nice and all, but the building's famous for it's sucky plumbing and faulty furniture. So um, if you need any repairing done, I'm just a door knock away. Free of charge, of course.' he replied.

I couldn't help but to laugh at his cockiness. It was the non-jerk kind of cockiness.

'Haha, so um, thanks for the help, neighbor.' I said.

'It's Vic. Vic Fuentes. And you are ?'

'Tatiana.'

'Just "Tatiana" ?' he asked.

Damn, I hate getting questions like this. Truth be told, I hated my long and very Indonesian name which doesn't reflect who I am. While other Indonesian kids had their own names, I had to inherit the family name because it sounds "nice". My family name literally means victory in literature, and the ironic thing is, no one in my family is into literature. What a joke.

'You're doing it again.' he interrupted, pointing out the fact that I just daydreamed again.

'Woah, sorry man. Sastrawijaya.' I replied to his question.

'Sastra-what ?'

'Sas-tra-wi-ja-ya.' I emphasized on the "ya" for my own amusement.

'Weird name, where ya from ?'

'Figure it out yourself. I do know that you're Mexican. I can tell from your last name. Until then Vic, goooooodbye.' I said before slamming my door shut.

I know that it was extremely rude of me to just end our conversation like that, but during this time period, I didn't really want to get too close to comfort.

Wait, did I just laugh in front of him ? I hadn't done that in front of someone else in 3 months.
