Painting Flowers

"The usual, Lucy?" The voice of my favorite barista said, pulling me out of my thoughts.

I nodded, flashing him my best smile, "Yes. Two of them today." I handed him my card as he swiped it and gave it back to me. I was buying Katelynne and I our daily morning Starbucks, as it was my turn today to purchase it. I went and sat at the nearest table and waited for Kyle, the barista, to call my name.

I pulled out my phone, after digging for it in my black purse, and caught up on the many social networks I had accounts for. I was lost in the light of my phone, and the humorous tweets that were printed across my screen.

"Mind if I sit here?" A deep voice came from above me, causing me to look up and into the eyes of no one other than Mike Fuentes.

I let out a sigh that only I could hear instantly thinking of what Brandon had told me. Okay Lucy, this is the second time you have ran into him, one more and it's supposedly "meant to be." Just be cool. "Of course you can." I moved my bag that was sitting on the other side of the small, brown, round table.

He smiled and sat across from me, holding his receipt. "What are you doing here in LA?" I asked the first question that came across my brain.

He licked his bottom lip before speaking, "There's a drum convention downtown, so Casey and I came out." He pointed over to Casey, who was paying for his drink. He looked over and his eyes lit up when he saw me.

"No way! Lucy?!" He shouted from the register, grabbed his credit card, and ran over to me, bringing me into a tight hug.

"Hey Case, it's been so long!" I let go and he pulled up a chair.

"Luce!" Kyle called, "Drinks are ready."

I walked over to the bar, grabbed the two iced coffees that were sitting in a cup holder, and thanked Kyle. "Well guys," I said to Mike and Casey, "I've got to get to work, it was nice seeing you."

Mike smiled, standing up as Kyle called his and Casey names for their drinks. He walked next to me and took the cup holder, "Where'd you park?"

I softly smiled, looking up at him, leading them out of the door and to my car. I pressed the green button on the remote to my car, letting a beep blast from it. I opened the car door and got in, Mike bending down to carefully hand me the cup holder. "You look awfully pretty today, Miss Lucy." He made straight eye contact with me as a soft smirk grew on his lips.

I tried not to, but a light pink color came over my cheeks, making them hot, and it was not because of my blush. "Thank you, Mike." I looked down at the dress I was wearing and smiled.

"Well, I'll let you go. Have a good day at work, okay?" He continued looking in my eyes, then to my lips, returning to my eyes quickly.

I nodded, "Have fun at the convention." I slipped the seatbelt over my body and started the engine.

Mike smiled, like the pretty boy he was and replied, "I will. Maybe I'll see you around?"

"Maybe, just maybe." I said before waving off him and Casey, as I backed out and drove off to work. I wondered if I should call Brandon and tell him that this is the second time I've seen Mike in four days, and in ten days, was the day of the interview. I was chewing on my lip, getting after myself for still thinking of Mike. I don't know what's been happening, but this dude made my stomach turn in the most amazing way today.

I rolled my eyes at my thoughts and drove off to work. I was not letting him get to me. I had work to do.

"Katelynne, are you seeing these questions from the fans?" I yelled out to her, looking at my iPad before me. It was on Twitter and I had gone on the Alt. Press account and asked the fans of Pierce the Veil for help with some interview questions. My computer held the page that had the questions that we were going to ask the band. Katelynne was looking up questions too, adding them onto her own page that she was coming up with. She was going to tag along with me at the interview half because she had to, half because I really needed her there with me.

Her chuckle came from the other room, "They have no filter, do they?"

"I don't think so." My eyes grew wide as I read the questions on the screen, laughs escaping my mouth. I went back to picking the ones I had liked, throwing in some funny ones, some serious ones, keeping a good mix. for the guys.

Around 3, I was glued to my iPad, still searching for questions. I didn't have the minimum number of questions yet, and I had only picked a few fan ones. "Ahem." Someone's voice cleared their throat at the doorway and I looked up, seeing the tall, lanky, body of Austin Carlile standing before me.

A smile grew once I saw him walk towards my desk as he handed a drink to me, "Venti Passion Tea, sweetened."

My nose scrunched up, "Perfect, thank you." I placed the cup on my desk and I gave him a big hug. He wrapped his long arms around me, returning the tight hug. He walked and sat across from me on one of the chairs and took the sunglasses off of his face, revealing the cutest freckles you'd ever see. "What brings you to me, Carlile?"

"I just wanted to see your pretty face, duh. And, I have nothing to do. You should leave early today and hang out with me." He winked at me.

"Go hang out with Tally." I suggested, taking a sip of my drink. It was so perfect.

"He's busy, I already called. He misses you by the way." He said matter-of-factly.

"I miss him too." I stuck out my lip, continuing to look at my computer. "I promise we'll all go out, I just need to finish this."

"C'mon Luce, it's Saturday! Why are you even here?" His eyebrows furrowed together and his hands were in the air.

I rolled my eyes, grabbing my phone and calling Tal. He answered on the second ring shouting, "What's up babe!"

A soft laugh came from me, "Hey, why won't you hang out with Austin, he's harassing me at work." I looked at Austin and he laughed loudly, lying back on the chair.

"I'm busy doing stuff the clothing line today. I'm free later, though. Wait, actually, I was gonna have dinner with Wes and Benji, tonight."

"Jesus, you know everyone." I said as he was referring to Benji Madden from Good Charlotte, whom I had met twice before because of Tal. Tal knew just about everybody that lived in Southern California. He worked a lot in product placement, and he designed clothes. I met him at a bar when I first moved out here and we hit it off. He's been my best friend ever since. Then a couple years ago, I met Austin through Tal. There was an instant attraction, obviously, I mean, have you seen him? But, it never went there. We're both far too busy for it to go there. It's just flirting between us.

He chuckled, "Why the fuck are you at work right now?"

"Uh hi, I have deadlines to meet. I need a few more questions for an interview I'm doing in less than two weeks."

"Slacking hard, I see. Tsk, tsk. Not what I taught you, Lucia."

"Don't fucking call me that, ew." I made a face and Austin kept laughing at it.

"Just hang out with Austin, we're the only friends he has." Tal joked, before telling us that he had to go, and then he hung up.

"Yeah, hang out with me." Austin begged, playing with paperclips on my desk.

"I mean, if I leave now, I have to take this home, and you're gonna have to help me, fucker."

"Fine, yes. Let's just go get food, I'm hungry. Plus, don't you wanna hang out with me before I'm in New York even longer than I have been lately."

"I know, you're leaving me to record your stupid album." I joked, throwing a rolled up Post-It at his face. "Fine, hold on. Katelynne!" I shouted, her coming in my office seconds afterwards.

"You can go ahead and go home, just email me what you got and then I'll go from there." She smiled and nodded, walking out of the office and then emailing the questions she typed up.

She told me bye and then I heard the door close as I was shutting off the screen to my computer. Austin grabbed my iPad and read the questions that I had favorited for the sake of maybe putting them in the interview. I took it from his hands once he was mocking the questions in a little girl voice, very amused with himself. I put it in my bag, and grabbed my other things, locking up the office once we had left.

"What do you want to eat?" He asked, holding my stack of papers that were held in a folder for me.

"Mmm," I thought as we walked to my car. I noticed that he parked right next to me. "Let's go to Olive Garden!"

He rolled his eyes, and scrunched up his face, "Ugh, why!"

"You asked me what I wanted, fuckhead. And, I want Olive Garden."

"I'm not dressed for Olive Garden!" He yelled, gesturing to his cutoff t-shirt that showed his arms and the sides of his body completely, and the black skinny jeans that he was wearing.

"Just go like that, what's the big deal?"

"It's a nice place to eat, I'm not walking in with this shirt on."

"So go in with it off?" I winked, then laughed once I got a smirk to come out of him.

"Let me see if I have another shirt in my car." He opened his trunk and dug through it, pulling out a gray t-shirt with maroon print that read, "CRSL." Which was Tal's new clothing line that he was trying out. "This will do." He said before taking his shirt off and replacing it with that one.

"Great, now let's go. The Olive Garden in Glendale?" I asked, receiving a nod from him.

"I'll follow you, pretty lady." He hit my hair with his hand, causing it to fly in front of my face, earning a roar of laughter to come from him.

"I hate you. Bye." I said getting into my car as quickly as I could, so I could lose him.

He immediately followed and jumped in his car, peeling out after me. The fun ended because we were stuck in traffic and he pulled up next to me at a red light and stuck his tongue out. I flicked him off laughing, then focused on the light. I noticed next to me was a huge sign that read in big red letters, "DRUM CONVENTION HERE!" with a big, black arrow pointing down to the cream colored building. I smiled a little, thinking of Mike. I shook my head out of it's daze once a car behind me honked, letting me know it was green. I kept my eyes on the road and eventually, we got to Olive Garden, Austin once again parking next to me.

I took a sip of my drink that I had ordered, eating my salad. Austin took a huge bite out of his and it honestly made me want to spit mine out, laughing.

"You eat like a fucking monster." I said, throwing a crouton hitting him square in the nose.

"You eat like a fucking squirrel." Was the first thing that came from his mouth and before I could say anything about how stupid it was, he realized it and added, "Uh, forget I said that."

"You're so lame, Austin." I smiled, looking at his smile. He silly grin grew even wider at me, not losing contact.

I saw some guy walk past me, wearing a t-shirt that said "2013 LA Drum Convention" and printed on it was a cartoon set of drums. My smile fell a little and I looked at my phone. Why was I waiting for him to call me? That was weird, right? Things would never be the same between Mike and I, right?

"Hey, was Tino going to the drum convention here today?" I asked curiously.

"Um, I think so. He was gonna meet up with Mike from Pierce the Veil, and his drum tech. He was taking Leonard, also."

I nodded, taking in his information. Austin and Tal knew about "the boy I broke up with" back at home, they knew I was San Diego, but they never knew it was Mike. I didn't feel the need to tell them. It wasn't their business, anyway. "That's cool."

"Yeah, a lot of brands were gonna be there, supposedly." He took a sip out of his soda, and then the waitress brought out our food and breadsticks.

I smiled, looking at how delicious my meal looked; the steam rose up from my pasta and flew into the air. "Fuck, this looks amazing." I was seriously mesmerized by my food as I was so hungry.

"Fuck. Yes." Austin replied, staring at his food. We both gave each other one look and then we devoured our food.

When we were done, him and I talked for a little. Mainly him, telling me about the new record and how sick it was gonna be so I have to write a good review.

"What if it sucks, though?" I said, smiling as I dug in my wallet for my card.

He took out his card before me and quickly gave it to the waitress. "I'm paying, dude. I always pay."

"Yeah, I know. That's why I was gonna pay."

"You can pay for...frozen yogurt later." He winked smiling at me.

"You're so annoying. Hurry, let's go because your ugly ass needs to help me with the interview questions." I said once he got his card back and the waitress left, telling us to have a great day.

We walked out of the restaurant and to our cars. "Hey, thanks for my late lunch, Aust."

"You're welcome, ugly girl." He showed me a toothy grin, earning a pinch on the arm from me. "Ow!" He screamed making other customers whom were walking up to the building to stare at us.

"Let's go. I'll see you at my house." I opened the door and got in, turning the radio up on that Selena Gomez song, driving off to my house. Fuck, it's so catchy.

I pulled a blanket over onto me, resting my legs on Austin's lap as he was too focused on watching tv. I had my Macbook, iPad, and phone right near me so I could finish this interview. I looked at Katelynne's questions and let out a little smiled at how good they were. She was going to end up taking my job from me at this rate.

I typed some of those in onto the page that I had already filled up with questions. I came across a rather personal one on Twitter to Mike:

@piercetheveronica: @AltPress: Mike, would you consider yourself a "player" so to speak? We all kind of know about the Frenchi thing.

My mouth dropped a little. "Some of these kids have no boundaries, you know? Like, somebody's personal life, like relationship personal life, is not any of your business. Like, this is beyond rude." I yelled out, not speaking to anyone in particular.

Austin looked over to me looking confused. "Tell me about it. I post one picture of me and some girl, and all hell breaks loose, like stop guys. You're all 13."

I giggled a little, than read the tweet again. It really upset me that that's how these guys live. Some care, but most of them don't. I've seen Austin's tweets about fans getting too into his personal life. My anger subsided and I felt almost bad for them. I got annoyed when people asked me about Austin and I on Instagram, imagine all the time? Jesus Christ.

As I typed up the last question, I saved it, then sent it off to Marc, the editor. "Aaaand, I'm done." I smiled, shutting my laptop closed. I carefully put it on the recliner beside me, along with my iPad.

"Good, now you can watch this weird movie with me. So, here's what you've missed..." He began to tell me what had been going on in this Lifetime movie about this girl breaking off an affair and the man supposedly killing her. "It's a true story. This guy is a creep." He seemed so into it, it was cute.

My phone made a notification sound and I read it, seeing that it was from Twitter.

@ptvmike has followed you.

My heart jumped a little, sending instant waves to my stomach, as if it was a signal for the butterflies to start flying out, one by one. I held my stomach, feeling the least bit in control of my emotions at this point.

I opened the notification and it sent me straight to his Twitter. I decided that I would follow Vic, Jaime, Tony, Casey, and then, Mike. Trying to keep it slick, you know?

Minutes later, I got a text from an unknown number.

Lucy, it's Mike. This is my cell phone number. I see that you followed me on Twitter. Good move, little lady. ;)

I looked at the winky emoji that was staring right back at me. I saved his number, and then waited a few minutes, not wanting to respond too quickly. I replied:

Hey Mike! I did in fact follow you on Twitter, you know, because you finally followed the coolest person you know. ;)

I sent it, instantly regretting putting that stupid fucking winky face emoji. What am I, 15? Ugh, I was so mad at myself. But, before I had a chance to get upset, Austin shouted at the tv, in disbelief about the movie, causing me to jump.

He looked at me after realizing and apologized, making me laugh even harder than I already was. He bit his lip and laughed along with me, letting out a few little snorts. Our laugh fest continued, and Mike did text back, but I didn't respond. I didn't want to be rude to Austin, it was one of his last days here, anyway. Might as well spend it with him.

A couple hours passed, and the movie finally ended. It was four hours long, I wanted to shoot myself to be quite honest. "Let's go get that frozen yogurt, ugly boy." I sat up.

His eyes lit up and he pushed my legs off of him and stood up, putting his shoes back on. I rolled my eyes and looked in the mirror real quick, running a hand through my hair, then getting my shoes. "You look great, let's go." Austin shouted running out of the door. Grabbing my bag, I followed him out, and then went on to enjoy some frozen yogurt with my best friend, Austin.

But no matter how much him and I talked with each other about the weirdest things, I couldn't get one person off of my mind, and of course, it was Mike Fuentes. What's a girl to do?

Notes

I FINALLY UPDATED! Sorry about the wait, guys. Thank you a million times about the feedback! You guys are so awesome, I love you all. As if you didn't already know that.

So, I brought Austin up and his friendship with Lucy, but do you think he will be a force that stops Mike and Lucy? Do you feel like he seems more interested in her than she is in him?

Once again, you all are the best, so keep on reading! It's gonna get good ;)

xoxo

@cosette_: I left that up to you and your imagination. I personally would have had them get married, but ultimately that is up to you. You can think up your own future that they had with each other and with their family and friends.

If they got married, had kids, if she made up with Austin. Their life, and everyone else's. Like Lynda and Brandon, or if she sees her parents again. You know?
