Can You Tell From the Look In Her Eyes?

28 Days

I got to the party at about 9:45 with my hair curled and the boys trailing behind me. I looked around the bus, and saw only a few familiar faces. It's unnerving when you're in a room full of people you don't know.

"Hey!" Jesse slurred just the tiniest bit. "It's Carter!"

"Hey, Jesse!" I smiled.

He pushed his way past a few band whores and came over to where I could smell his alcohol-tinged breath. "Can I get you something to drink?"

"Nah. I don't drink, man," I said lamely.

"Why?" He questioned.

"I'm straight-edge," I stated simply.

"Rad!" He shouted, sounding like he was baked, too.

"Jesse, baby!" Some blonde latched onto his arm and pulled him to the center off the mass of sweaty bodies.

"See you later, Carter!" He waved. I waved back and turned around. I was relieved that this time Jaime was still here. He seemed to be enjoying himself. He had a red cup in his hand and was joking around with a few people I had seen, but didn't really know.

"Hey, man. This is my girl, Carter," Jaime introduced me to a tall brunette with olive skin.

"Nick Dungo. I'm in For the Foxes," he smiled.

"Carter Piedmont. I'm in Jaime's pants," I joked.

We all chuckled at my joke.

"So, Carter," Alex Gaskarth spoke up. "Do you know how to play the drums?"

"I played them for seven years. All the way through my senior year of high school," I beamed.

"So, what you're saying is, you're good enough to play drums onstage at Warped Tour?" Jack asked, pointing a banana at me.

"Uh... I guess..." I trailed off, nervous as to what they were getting at.

"Good. You're the new drummer for All Time Low," Alex grinned.

"Just for the rest of tour, right?" I asked nervously.

"We'll see..." Jack grinned.

I turned around and walked off before I could freak out. I can't play drums for All Time fucking Low! I don't play in front of people! I mean, singing I can do. But, playing the drums? I'm the only one up there and they're going to know if I mess up... Oh, God... What have I gotten myself into?

"Hey, Carter!" Justin shouted, making his way towards me through the mass of sweaty bodies that had sucked up Jesse earlier.

"Hi, Justin," I smiled weakly.

"Not enjoying yourself?" He frowned.

"Nah. I just got some interesting news that I'm not sure I can handle," I looked down at my feet.

"What happened?" He asked with genuine concern.

"I'm apparently the new drummer for ATL, but I haven't played since my senior year of high school, and I'm not sure if I can do it..." I looked up to see his eyes studying every inch of my face.

"Really?"

"Yeah..."

"No offense, but girl drummers are HOT!" He grinned.

"Not when they mess up a bunch, they aren't," I frowned.

"They're still hot," he winked.

"I... uh... I'm going to get some air," I awkwardly pointed to the door.

"Okay. See you around, Carter Kickdrum," he waved.

I chuckled his stupid nickname and walked off the bus. I texted Jaime and saw him climbing off, too.

"What's wrong, baby?" Jaime asked.

"I... uh... I don't know if I can do this..." I sighed.

"What? But we're so good together! Why-"

"No. I meant being the drummer for All Time Low," I chuckled and kissed his cheek.

"Oh. That's a relief!" He mocked wiping sweat off his forehead. "Well, go to practice, and if they don't think you're ready to, then we'll talk about not doing it."

"But-"

"Have some faith in yourself, Carter. Remember that first day when Vic pulled you out onstage?" I nodded. "You were so amazing then, and you didn't even practice. Music runs through your bones. There is no reason on Earth why you wouldn't be able to do this."

I sighed. "Okay."

We walked back into the party, going our separate ways, so that I could hang out with the girls. I skirted the edge of the party, only to find them in the back lounge.

"Hey, girls!" I grinned.

"Spill!" Logan shouted.

"Spill what?" I asked innocently.

"Why'd Jaime take you outside?" She asked eagerly.

"Well, I mean, I got asked to be the drummer of All Time Low."

"HOLY SHIT! NO WAY!" Ruby yelled taking my hands and jumping around.

"OH MY GOD!" Logan jumped up and hugged me.

"I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE A DRUMMER!" Kathy squealed, joining the hug.

"Yeah, I was a drummer for seven years," I blushed.

"Wow... I can't believe that you're... HOLY SHIT!" Kathy started jumping up and down.

"Yeah... I mean, it's good to know the reason I'm the drummer is because Rian's definitely not coming back..." I smiled.

"EVEN BETTER!" Ruby grinned.

"Ladies, ladies..." Jesse stepped into view. "Unless you're playing Zumba on the Wii, please stop jumping. You're shaking the whole bus."

"You have a Wii?" I asked.

"Yes, ma'am."

"We are so playing it. Thanks, Jess!" I blew a kiss and he grinned, walking away. Logan closed the door and turned to me with a wild look in her eyes.

"Jesse so likes you, Carter," she grinned.

"So does Justin," Kathy winked.

"Guys, I'm dating Jaime. I don't care who and who doesn't like me," I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, about that. What are you guys going to do when tour's over?" Kathy frowned.

"I... I'm going back to London, I guess," I frowned, too.

"But, Jaime! You can't just leave him here!" Ruby was almost in tears.

"Ru, why are you crying?"

"You guys are like my own personal soap opera!"

I chuckled. "I uh... Jaime hasn't even asked me to move in with him. I mean, we've been together a month now? That's a little too soon to be talking about moving in with each other..."

"I guess you're right," Ruby sighed.

"I mean, I'll come to San Diego all the time to see you guys. But, I can't leave Gavin. He's stuck with me through everything, and he's going to need me when he gets back."

"Well, let's just not worry about it tonight. Tomorrow morning, we can plan it all out," Kathy faked a smiled.

"Okay," I blinked back the tears threatening to form. I can't believe I'm not going to see these girl every day...

We spent the rest of the night playing Mario Kart and trying not to think about me leaving after tour was done.

"Wakey wakey eggs and bakey!" Jesse shouted.

"Jesse, why are you on our bus?" I asked groggily. I looked around realizing that this wasn't the back lounge of the PTV bus. Ruby, Kathy, and Logan were all passed on the other couches.

"You're still in SWS territory, little missy," Jesse drawled.

"Oh, well, I declare!" I pretended to fan myself and we both chuckled.

"Come on, the guys are in the front. We found Mike out on the sidewalk, Jaime was passed out in the driver's seat, and Tony and Vic were on the roof," he led me to the front lounge, which was now a breakfast area.

"Morning, Little Red!" Mike grinned. Vic and Tony said good morning, too.

"Morning, babe," Jaime smiled as I sat on his lap, stealing a piece of bacon.

"What time is it?" I moaned.

He looked down at his watch. "Um... 10:07."

"Who the hell wakes up at 10:07?!"

"You do, Car. Do you want to go back to the bus so you can change," he hinted.

"Oh... um... yeah. That's probably be a good idea."

"Okay. Well, thanks, Jesse. The breakfast was pretty good," Jaime smiled.

"What do you mean pretty good?" Jesse joked.

"Have you had a PTV breakfast?" I joked back. "They're like Mexican food wizards!" Tony glared at me. "And Jedis."

"Is that so?" Jesse raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah. Next week, we're gonna have a giant breakfast for everyone. You should come," Vic chimed in.

"I think I will. I need to taste this Mexican food wizardry," Tony glared at him. "And Jedi... uh... ry?"

We all laughed and Jaime carried me off the bus. We got back to our and I changed my clothes and tampon, which again, didn't have much blood on it.

I sighed and walked out, I was not in the mood to face the day.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

It was yet another day over and we didn't have much summer left. Only 28 days until I had to tell the love of my life that we probably wouldn't see each other ever again.

I snuggled closer into Jaime's chest and inhaled his comforting scent, trying to shake myself of those thoughts. He smelled like Old Spice, hair gel, and soap. It had become my new favorite smell. I felt a small tear slip from my eye. I can't believe I'm not going to do this every day for the rest of my life.
