Can You Tell From the Look In Her Eyes?

Prologue

"Baby, I love you. Will you please come on Warped with meas our tour manage? I couldn't stand being away without you the whole summer," Oli pleaded, knowing I couldn't say no to his calming accent and beautiful eyes. "Also, no one quite knows us assholes like you."

"I guess..." I say.

"BRILL! We're going to have so much fun, baby! You can watch us perform and meet new people and everything! You'll love it!" He smiled and kissed my cheek.

I smiled and left the room to start packing.

When I came back, he was texting someone and was clearly drunk. I left the room not wanting anything bad to happen. I didn't want to get in a fight.

Lately, we'd had a lot of random fights and I wished it would go back to the way it used to be.

Back in high school, our senior year to be exact, Oli and I were inseparable. The year before, I had transferred from Georgia because my dad got a way better job offer. A job that could pay for college and cars and a nice house and everything.

Our senior year, ee were voted cutest couple, won prom king and queen, everything. It was the best year of my entire life. The next year, my freshman year of college, I had gone to Oxford, majoring in biology. Oli, though, stayed home to focus on the band, who was really starting to get noticed. Sophomore year, he was somewhat distant, starting to play shows every weekend, partying until 6 a.am., leaving me wondering where my boyfriend was. My junior year of college, Oli started touring and partying and being crazy. I moved into the dorms, which caused our first fight. Nothing much besides yelling. Soon, though, he started getting violent whenever he came home drunk and I wasn't there. Last year, I graduated and moved in with Oli, hoping to contain some of his rage. Really, all it did was make it easier to take out on me.

I can't bring myself to move on, though. I love him too much.

Then, I started thinking about all the good parts of those last few years. I felt like I had found myself for once. I started listening to music that made me feel like the band actually cared about me, not just music for the fans in general. I felt like it was written for me when I had a bad day. I owed a lot to Oli. He helped me find myself, he was an amazing boyfriend, he introduced me to my current best friends, and now he's taking me to Warped.

But, I couldn't help feeling that something was off. Like, I hadn't found everything. I shook it off, thinking it was just me overthinking things.

I'm perfectly happy with Oli, I thought. Or am I?

I pulled out my new smartphone that Oli had bought me and dialed Gavin's number.

"Yeah, Car?"

I smiled at his nickname for me. "Gav, I'M GOING TO WARPED AS THE BRING ME TOUR MANAGER!" I yelled excitedly, trying to mask the concern I held in my voice. But, being Gavin, he just had to pick up on it.

"Car, you're not fooling anyone. I know when you're really happy and you sure as hell don't sound it right now."

"I just... ugh... I'm kind of worried. Like, it doesn't feel right. I mean, I'm happy to be going, but something feels off..." I said quietly, trying to make sure Oli didn't hear.

"You're happy to be going. Just not with him," he said, like it was a giant neon sign right in front of me.

"No! Of course I'm happy to be going with him, I just-"

"You're not happy. Let's face it, you two aren't in love like you used to be. The only reason you're with him is because you're afraid of what he'll do. Car, I have to go to Warped tour, too. So, I can't really have you come stay with me right now, but you need to end it by the end of this summer," Gavin sighed.

"Why do you have to be right?" I moaned at the huge, scary task ahead of me. I have to break up with the love of my life for the past six years... but is he really the love of my life?

"Because I know you better than I know myself, babe. Now, go pack. I'm coming to get you tomorrow so you can get there early with me and the band I'm doing tech for," he yawned.

"Okay. Night, Gav!"

"Night, baby doll!"

I walked into the living room, sitting on Oli's lap.

"Hey, baby..." I sighed, trailing my fingers up his chest.

"What do you need, sweetie?" He said. He clearly had just smoked some weed. He was only this sweet when he was high. I'm going to use this to my advantage.

"Well, I'm just so excited to be going on Warped with you guys that Gavin wants me to go with him so he can get me ready to be a big, bad tour manager and meet some of the band the day before. Is that okay?" I batted my lashes.

"That's perfect!" He smiled, kissing my forehead. "Now go finish packing and get some beauty sleep, you have a big day tomorrow.

I smiled. It fucking worked!

I shoved three months worth of band tees, shorts, shoes, makeup, and other shit into a few duffels. I filled my backpack with my basic shit that I would need day-to-day, an extra outfit, and got ready to start a life-changing summer tomorrow.
