We Found Each Other In The Dark

Day Old Hate

"Are you glad that Jonah is coming back tomorrow?" Alex questioned slightly out of breath, due to the Zumba workout we were doing at her house. I had only done this a couple of times, and I had nothing else to do this morning so I figure I'll do this instesad of sitting in bed and eating junk food.

"You have no idea, I am so happy to see him!" I grinned, excitement spilling out of me. I had spoken to Jonah everyday since he's been gone, and I saw him once. I was counting the hours until I went to go pick him up.

"Do you think he's having a good time over there at his dad's?"

I nodded, "Of course. And, all the guys are there, too, and he has so much fun with them. Even more, that they are in the process of releasing an album, so you know he's sitting there banging on Mike's drums or on Vic's guitar." I smiled at the thought. Jonah was such a music lover just like his dad. I think if anything, he'll end up a drummer. He seems to always like banging my pots and pans and wooden spoons, and banging those on everything else.

We continued this workout and I was exhausted. The instructors on the TV were obviously Zumba pros, and I was not. I was a shame to my culture because of my lack of rhythm. I always hated dancing for the reason that I looked stupid as fuck doing it, because I was so lost in translation. At parties, I was never one to be dancing, you could find me socializing, but dancing was never my forte.

As soon as we finished the workout, my phone was ringing. "Hello?" I answered.

"Hey, I was wondering if you could come over because Jo woke up puking this morning and I'm almost positive he has a fever. He keeps asking for you." Vic sounded concerned. Jo was rarely ever sick and whenever he was, he never happened to be with Vic, so I'm sure he didn't know how to deal with the situation.

"Yeah, I'll be there in like five minutes. Tell him I'm on my way." I hung up and grabbed my bag and water bottle. I was grateful that Alex lived closer to Vic than I did, it was really up the street from here. "Alright dude, thanks for the workout, but my little dude is sick, bye!" I waved fast walking out of the door and ot my car. The whole way I kept thinking of what it could be that got Jo sick. He was never one to throw up, like me, so hearing that concerned me a little.

Within five minutes, I got to Vic's and rang the doorbell. Seconds passed and the door swung open revealing a shirtless Mike. I softly smiled and walked in. "They are in Vic's room." He informed me. As I went up the stairs he called my name causing me to look back, "And Liv, I really am sorry for what happened the other day."

I smiled and nodded, letting him know that it was okay. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't be upset with Mike. Over the last couple of days, I thought about what he was saying, and even though I disagreed, I shouldn't have blown up at him. I was just already in distress. Plus, Mike is my best friend. He's been there for me through so much, even when I filed for divorce from Vic. He was a shoulder to cry on, and I owed him the world for that.

I made my way to Vic's room, lightly knocking. Vic opened the door and Jonah was lying on Vic's bed. My poor baby looked so miserable. I sat on the bed and touched his head, "Hey babe, what's wrong?" His head was hot, so I turned to Vic, "Hey, can you get a thermometer, he feels warm." Vic nodded and walked into his restroom.

"Mommy, my tummy hurts, I threw up, and I feel hot but I am cold too, that's why I have one leg out. Daddy does that so does that mean daddy is sick, too?" He rambled on and I lightly chuckled understanding what he meant.

"Daddy sticks out one leg from the blanket because he is a weird sleeper, Jo. But, I'm gonna take your temperature and then we'll call the doctor and take you, okay?"

Jonah nodded and frowned. He hated going to the doctors, but he never complained about going; which made my life easier. Vic came back with an orange thermometer and handed it over to me. I gave him and phone and told him to call the doctor and to tell him that we'll be there shortly.

I took Jonah's temperature and once it beeped, I looked at it. "Well little one, it's 101.5, you absolutely have a fever." Jonah groaned and sat up a little bit. "C'mon Jo, let's put on your shoes." I stood up and Vic came over to me with Jonah's black Converse. "I got it." He said, sitting down and helping him put on his shoes. I saw Jo's bag on a chair nearby and grabbed it along with my keys that I placed on Vic's nightstand.

"Do you want me to just bring him back when we are done or-" I began to ask.

"I'm going with you." Vic stated, shooting a glance at me like I should've known that. I guess I should've, that is his dad. It's not my fault that I'm not used to it.

I nodded and we walked out of his room and down the stairs. Vic was carrying Jonah in his arms, who rested his head on his dad's shoulder. Mike looked up at us and Vic said, "We'll be back." Mike waved us off and we got into my car. While waiting for Vic to buckle up Jo, I felt weird. He can't even look at me. I know I may have said what I said in a more aggressive tone, but it was still how I felt. He knew it was wrong, too.

He got in the passenger seat and put on his seatbelt. I backed out and headed out on the road to the doctor's office.

The ride was a little awkward. It was really quiet besides Jonah talking about how he and Vic went to the beach and made sand castles. Jonah said he likes the beach and wants me to take him sometime. I laughed and agreed that I would, maybe even this upcoming week. Vic just kind of sat there, looking out the window and he laughed at whatever Jonah rambled on about. Other than that, nothing.

I walked up to the desk and the nurse / receptionist opened the sliding glass door and asked me to fill out some paperwork. I nodded and brough the clipboard over to where Vic and Jonah were sitting.

"Why are you wearing workout clothes?" Vic asked, staring at me.

"Uh, because I was working out before you called me. Alex and I were doing Zumba."

"Isn't that the dance thing? You don't dance, you hate dancing, why would you do that?"

I softly chuckled, "She asked me to do it with her. This was like my third time doing it. Calm down, killer. If it makes you happy, that'll be the last time I do Zumba." I said sarcastically, adding an elbow to his side.

He laughed, "You're such a dick, sometimes."

"You're the one saying I don't dance, maybe I do dance now. How are you supposed to know?" I puffed out my chest and tried to hold in my laughter.

"Whatever, dude. You'll never dance in a million years. You dance like a stick."

I wanted to literally scream with laughter, "A stick?! I dance like a stick? Does that even make sense, Vic?"

"Yeah, you do." He grinned, showing his white teeth.

"At least I don't dance like I'm fucking 87."

He laughed so hard, "Fuck off, Stick Girl."

"You're such a little bitch." We both looked at each other and giggled at our conversation. This was how him and I were usually, it was always light and funny, and that's what I loved about being around him. I finished filing out the paperwork and handed it back to the lady, I sat back down and Jonah rested his head on my lap. I was hoping he wasn't going to throw up anytime soon.

"Jonah?" The nurse called out and Jo sat up, slowly getting up and walking past the door that lead into the rooms, with Vic and I following. She put him in a room and told him to sit up on that bed thing they have. He looked at me and groaned. I stood up and moved his hair out of his face and felt his head. She took his tempurature and checked his heart beat, his breathing and looked inside his ears. "Okay, mom. What's wrong today?"

"Well, I was told that he threw up this morning, I believe only once." I looked over at Vic and he nodded. "He has a fever, I had got 101.5 when I checked about 30 minutes ago, and he says that his stomach hurts. I believe he is having cold sweats, also."

"Does he have his flu shot?" She asked, writing notes down into his file.

I nodded, "Yes, he does."

"Okay, let me go and get the doctor and we'll see what's wrong with him." She grabbed the manila folder and walked out of the room, closing the door.

I looked at Vic and he looked at me with a smirk. "What?" I asked.

He continued to have a stupid smile on his face, "Nothing."

"No, what?"

"Nothing, you'll probably get mad." His smirk grew wider as he stared at me.

"Victor Vincent Fuentes, what are you smiling at?" I walked over and pinched his arm.

"Ow! I was just gonna say that those workout pants really accentuate your butt."

I could feel my face instanly get hot and my cheeks turn a light shade of red. This little shit. "Oh. Um, thanks?"

"You're welcome." He raised an eyebrow at me and smiled.

I rolled my eyes and sat down next to him as we waited for the doctor. He had got a few texts on his phone from what I read were from Amy, and he just glanced at them and put it back in his pocket. I smiled softly and looked at Jonah as he sat there staring at me and Vic sadly.

"What's wrong, babe?" I asked Jonah.

"Noth- I mean, yeah, Jo, what's wrong?" Vic answered then cut himself off before he realized that I was talking to Jonah, not him. My eyes grew a little wide, and I could tell he was embarassed. He shook his head and looked down at the floor, his legs shaking.

The doctor came in at that moment, thank god, and his white coat flew to us to shake our hands. "Well if it isn't Mr. Fuentes. I haven't seen you in a while, how are you?"

Vic smiled, "I've been doing great, how are you?"

"Just great! Hello, Ms. Olivia." He shook my hand and then made his way to Jonah. He said hi to him and then began to ask us what was wrong.

--

"Alright, Mrs. Fuentes that'll be $25." The nurse said once I was about to pay.

"Um, it's Mendoza..." I said awkwardly and her face flushed from her olive color to pale.

"Oh my gosh, I apologize." She seemed so embarassed.

I handed her my card and said, "Don't worry. It happens more often than you'd think."

She nodded and swiped my card, then printing out a receipt for me to sign. She gave me a Star Wars sticker to give Jonah. I waved bye and then met up with Jonah and Vic in the waiting room.

"So, you have the stomach flu, little bee." I rubbed Jonah's head softly. The doctor said he probably contracted it at school. He said he needs a few more days to get over it, so to not send him to school on Monday and Tuesday.

Vic carried him again and his head fell on his shoulder, "Mommy, can I go to my bed?"

I looked over at Vic and he nodded, "Yeah, sweetheart. Let me just take your dad home, okay? And then we could go home and make you some soup."

Jonah rubbed his eyes and nodded, shutting his eyelids and falling asleep. It was another quiet ride, more because Jonah was sleeping, but it was still awkward. What seemed like 10 hours later, we arrived at Vic's and there was another car in the driveway, it had to be Amy's car.

"Hey, let me know how he's feeling okay?" Vic said to me before he got out of my car.

"Of course." I smiled softly and watched as he gave Jonah a light kiss on his head, and then went inside his home.

--

Jonah had been sleeping most of the day, which I don't blame him for. That's what he needs is some rest. He barely touched his soup because he said he wasn't that hungry at the moment. Yes, he said that. I was being lazy and watching a movie on the couch. I kept thinking about Vic's butt compliment earlier and I couldn't help but laugh at it. He was so stupid, sometimes. I tried not to focus on things like that because it just confused the shit out of me. I hated to be confused more than anything. Jonah strolled into the living room from his room and walked to me.

"Hey baby, come here. How are you feeling?"

He threw up his arms and said, "Mommy, I left Pablo at daddy's house! We have to go get him!"

"Really, Jo?"

"Yes, mommy! Please!"

I sent a quick text to Mike saying that we'd be going over there in like fifteen minutes go grt Pablo, real quick. He responded with a, "See you in a bit!"

--

I rang the doorbell, holding Jonah's hand with my free hand. Mike opened the door and let us in.

"I think you left Pablo in your dad's room, homie." Mike said, gesturing him up the stairs.

Jaime and Tony were in the living room and they came up to me with hugs and hellos. Before I had the chance to even notice her, Amy sat at the kitchen table with a "Fuck You" written all across her face. I couldn't stand this girl. I put on my fakest smile, "Hey Amy! How was Seattle?"

"It was good, I saw my family. It was really nice to get away for a bit. How are you?"

I felt like she knew something had happened. Who knows? She might, apparently she's a psycho. "I'm doing great! Just working and being a mom, you know, the usual."

She nodded slightly and kept her eyes on me; I was her target. She was aiming right for me with hate dripping off of her like a wet dog. I looked over to Mike and his eyes grew a little bit wider and he looked down. "How was the week without the kid?" She questioned.

"That 'kid' has a name and it's Jonah, and it was weird because I am used to him being there all the time."

"You know what Olivia, I know what happened. I'm not fucking stupid. Vic comes in here looking happy as hell, and believe me, it wasn't because of me."

"What are you even talking about?" I asked her. I swear I wanted to hit her in the face.

"Yeah, what are you talking about?" Vic asked, glaring at her. Not a hint of guilt was in his expression mainly because I don't think he felt guilty.

"Hello, I'm talking about you two." She pointed at us and we both looked at each other. "I'm not a dumbass. Something went on, I mean please, she never stepped foot in this house before I left." She was pointing her stupid crooked fingers at me and I wanted to break them off. Did I feel guilty for anything anymore? Not at al.

"It's not even like that, calm down, Amy." Vic brushed it off. Jaime, Tony, and Mike were watching intently, curious to know what was gonna happen next.

"Please Vic, she's so pathetic. She's obviously still in love with you. She's dying for your attention and you don't even love her back." She licked her lips and looked straight at me. Before I could blow up, Jonah spoke up to say something.

"No, daddy you tell me all the time how much you love me and mommy more than the world and how you said that you wish mommy could see that, you said that right now, daddy." He tugged on Vic's pant leg and tears filled my eyes. Amy's mouth dropped and Vic just kind of looked at me. I didn't even know what to say, he told my son- our son that. My heart was about to beat right out of my chest. Mike, Tony, and Jaime had the widest eyes I've ever seen.

"Really? You told him that?" Amy glared at Vic and rolled her eyes once her eyes landed on Jonah. That was it, that was my breaking point.

"Look Amy, I'm done with your shit. You can talk all the shit you want about me, and how I do this and that, but you can't disrespect my son, and my son's father like the way you have been. And sweetheart, if he loved you so much, as you claim he does, would he have had sex with me while you were gone? And, would he have vented to me about how much you annoy him? No. No person deserves to have a bitch like you for a girlfriend, especially somebody like Vic who goes above and beyond for his girlfriends and gives them the world. You are a spoiled brat and you can go fuck youself, cunt." The mouths of Amy, Vic, Mike, Tony, and Jaime all dropped. "C'mon Jonah, let's go home." He ran to me and held my hand. Mike's dropped mouth turned into a laugh and he came and followed me to my car.

"I can't believe you aid that." He shouted with happiness.

"I can't believe I did either." I put Jonah inside his car seat.

"My little Liv finally grew some balls and told that bitch off."

"I hate her, dude." I shook my head and opened my car door.

He reached out his arms for a hug, "If you need to call me, I will answer."

I nodded and gave him a soft smile, "Thank you, Mikey." I got in and drove back home, unsure of what I just started.

Was it the end of the battle? Or was this the beginning of the war?
