Somebody's Supposed To Fall In Love

Like A Rush Shot Through You

“Lana?! Lana!”
“Don’t touch her! Keep her still!” Kellin yells nervously.
“Tony!” Vic snaps.
“What the fuck happened?”
“GET MIKE!”

My eyes flutter open and there’s a man leaning over me. He’s wearing a light blue shirt and shining a tiny flashlight into my eyes. I move my hands, trying to cover my eyes from the light.
“No, sweetheart, don’t move.” He smiles faintly, his southern accent echoing in my ears. “Just look up at me.”
My muscles relax and I look back at the man, my eyes squinting slightly. “Where am I?”
“Same place you fainted, silly.” Kellin leans over.
“Is she awake?” Mike asks anxiously and pushes Kellin back.
“Please sit back, sir.” The man above me turns his flashlight off and sighs. “Slight pupil constriction and a one hundred and one degree fever.” He mutters to a woman in a matching blue shirt. I notice know that they must be from the first aid.
“What does that mean?” I ask quietly.
“Well...” He stands up and walks over to his bag. “You’re dehydrated, that’s for sure.” Then man then turns to Mike. “We’re going to follow you back to your bus. The next band is waiting to go on, so we need to get out of their way. We’ll get her situated and then she needs to rest and drink much, much more water. She’ll be fine in a few hours.”
Mike nods and bends down, as I sit up. The surrounding area spins slightly, but my eyes eventually focus on him. He pushes his hands under my arms and lifts me up easily. “Come on, baby…”
I wrap my arms around his neck and hide my face. “I’m sorry I fainted…”
He holds me tightly and starts to walk. “Why are you apologizing?”
“I scared everyone.” I murmur, while playing with pieces of his damp hair. Mike carefully makes his way down the backstage stairs and then there’s an eruption of voices and people singing Pierce The Veil lyrics.
Up ahead, I hear Vic’s voice. “I’m sorry, now’s really not the best time… O-Okay, I guess...”
“Excuse me…” Mike sighs and weaves through the crowd that has gathered around the parking lot gate.
I hug his neck tighter and feel tears rising in my eyes. I just want to be lying in bed right now. I want to be out of the rain, out of the hot air, away from all the crazy fans. I feel Mike’s fingers on my lower back and I sigh, closing my eyes again.

“Lana bear…” Someone’s stroking my cheeks gently. “Want some breakfast?”
I open my eyes, focusing my attention on Mike. He smiles faintly and kisses my nose. “Good morning, beautiful.”
Giggling, I wrap my arms around his neck and stretch. “How long have I been asleep?”
“You slept right through the night.” He murmurs. “Do you feel any better today?”
I nod and press my forehead into his, kissing him softly. “I’m hungry.”
Smirking, he squeezes my butt and then lies back. “Good. Jaime’s making eggs out there, so how about you come out front?”
“Yes sir!” I kick the covers off slowly and sit up, before running my fingers through my hair.
“You have to drink more water from now on, babe…” He rolls off the bed and stands up. “You scared the shit out of me.”
“I’m sorry…” I mutter as I pull on a pair of shorts. “I probably scared the shit out of Kellin too. I was literally speaking to him when I passed out.”
“Him and Justin got you a big teddy bear.” Mike laughs a bit and opens the bedroom door. “The dropped it off this morning.”
“And what did you get me?” I pull my messy hair up into a ponytail, before walking past him.
“You should just be happy that I’m here right now. I’m pretty sure I had a minor heart attack.” He follows me past the bunks and into the main room.
“A mino—” My voice is cut off from the impact of Vic and Tony’s hugging. They are both smiling widely and looking down at me. Behind them, Mike cringes as he watches their tight grasp.
“Guys, give her some space…” He tries to say something, but they both ignore him.
“Sleeping beauty is finally awake!” Tony’s eyes widen playfully. “Are you feeling better?”
“Obviously.” Mike mutters as he flops onto the leather couch.
“Yeah, I am...” Smiling, I lean up onto my tippy toes and wrap my arms around Vic’s neck. “Sorry I scared you.”
He sits down at the small table, still holding me carefully. “It’s not your fault. You didn’t faint on purpose…”
“It was cool though! There was a good ten hour period of no one yelling at me.” Jaime sets two plates of scrambled eggs and potatoes down in front of us, and the pats my forehead. “Hungry?”
“I’m starving!” I smile up at Jaime and then reach for a fork. “Thanks for breakfast, booboo.”
“No problem.” He then turns to Mike and Tony. “I’m not making you two a plate, so…help yourselves.”
“Aw, you’re too kind.” Mike smirks and hoists himself off the couch, moving toward the kitchen counter.
Meanwhile, I’m practically shoveling the eggs into my mouth. My stomach was so empty and now, the food feels amazing. I probably look like such a fatty in front of the four of them, but I’m indifferent at this point. Tony has actually stopped eating and is watching me with wide eyes.
“You alright there?” He smirks.
My cheeks go red and I set my fork down, before leaning back against Vic. “Yeah, sorry... I haven’t eaten since we were in Universal Studios.”
“Mike, why the hell are you starving your girlfriend?” Jaime laughs, a piece of toast falling out of his mouth. “Isn’t she supposed to be letting herself go, not starving herself?”
I scoff. “Don’t listen to him, Mike! I won’t let myself go.”
Jaime laughs to himself. “Judging by your current eating habits, I’m not too convinced by that statement.”
“Please, don’t start.” Vic sighs and pushes his empty plate forward. “Leave the girl alone.”
“Jesus Christ, no one can take a joke anymore…” Jaime takes a sip of orange juice.
I take the final bites of my potatoes and climb off Vic’s, before sitting down next to Mike and pulling a blanket over. He moves his plate off his lap and leans back with me. “You’re probably gonna be pissed, but I called your dad.”
I look up at him, suddenly going pale. “You didn’t…”
He rolls his eyes. “I didn’t do it to get you in trouble. I called him, because you could’ve been really sick. And I wanted him to know, but I made sure he knew that everything was okay and that you were just dehydrated.”
Sighing, I reach for his phone and randomly start scrolling through the different apps. “Well, what did he say?”
Mike sets the plate on the ground and clears his throat, shrugging. “He asked about what happened and I told him.”
“You told him about me being hung-over?”
“No.” He laughs awkwardly. “You’re not legally allowed to have alcohol. You think I’m stupid?”
“Yes…” I smirk up at him and he pouts, before pressing his lips to my forehead.
“He didn’t say anything else, besides thanking me for calling.”
“Interesting.”
“And he wants to go golfing with me when we get back.”
The whole bus explodes into laughter and Mike glares at all three of them. I start to laugh as well. “Baby, can you even golf?”
“No.” Tony smirks and reaches for the remote.
“I’ve been golfing before!” Mike says defensively.
“Mini-golfing doesn’t count, unfortunately.” Giggling, I trace my fingertips over the colorful tattoos on his left arm.
“Will you teach me then, baby?” He hugs my waist and crawls on top of me, kissing my collarbones.
“Of course…” I bring his face closer and playfully bite down on his bottom lip.
Tony gags dramatically. “If you’re about to have sex, please take it back to your room.”
“I think they are…” Jaime smirks. “It’s been like three days since I’ve heard them moaning. With the fainting incident and everything, I think Mikey is going through a dry spell.”
“Damn right, I am...” Mike murmurs against my lips and smiles, before pulling away. “I’ll give her another day to recover though.”
“Oh, thanks…” I roll my eyes and look back down at his phone, as I climb out from under him. “I’m actually going to call my sister, okay? I’ll be back in like twenty minutes.”

“How many did you have, dumbass?” Alex laughs into the phone.
“I had like three, but I’ve never had so much tequila.” I’m lying in the heap of covers, while running my fingers over the tattoo on my hipbone.
“And tequila makes you pass out almost twenty-four hours after you drink it?” My sister asks skeptically.
“Well, I threw up in the morning and didn’t eat anything.” I sigh. “I was just a little dehydrated. It’s not that big of a deal.”
“Maybe! Or maybe you’re terminal.”
“Fuck you.” I laugh slightly.
“Gemma! Stop whining…” Alex groans. “I don’t want to go to the beach! Go ask Dad!”
I flinch and pull the phone back from my ear. “Why the hell are you yelling? And why can’t you just go sit under our umbrella with her?”
“Because I have cramps.” She snaps. “Gemma’s been asking me nonstop, since I fucking woke up.”
“Suck it up.” I smirk. “You’re gonna have cramps until you’re like fifty years old.”
“Okay, bye.” The line goes dead and I roll my eyes, tossing the phone onto a pile of covers. She’s such a bitch.
After taking a few seconds to yawn, I stare up at the ceiling and think about our conversation. The more I analyze my sister’s idiotic words, the faster my heart starts to race. What if I fainted for another reason other than dehydration? What if I threw up yesterday morning and it had nothing to do with the alcohol? Stop, Lana. Asking those kinds of questions doesn’t do anyone any good.
“Mike?” I sit up in bed.
“WHAT?! I’M PLAYING A GAME!” He yells from the main room.
I bite down on my bottom lip and rub my forehead. “I need the keys! I have to go to the store…”

A nasally Taylor Swift song is quietly playing, as I stride down the Wal-Mart aisles. I pass through each aisle quickly, trying not to give myself a panic attack. I grab a bag of chips, a new of roll of paper towels, a stack of solo cups, and a container of chocolate milk. Then I make my way toward the back. My heart starts to race, as I pass cosmetics. I turn right, into the next aisle and take a deep breath, as I scan the shelves. I have no idea which fucking kind to buy. I should ask someone behind the counter…
I stare at the pink boxes. How can they make them look so inviting, when I’m literally about to piss my pants? I should just leave now. Leave the cart and run out of the store. There’s no need for this. I was just hung-over.
Fuck it. With shaky hands, I grab three different brands of pregnancy tests and throw them into the cart.
