Something About You...

I Can't Breathe

Kassia's POV

After I went to the office, I was directed to my first class, my least favorite class, Algebra. I internally groaned as I stood outside the door, scared to go in due to the fear of everyone staring and possibly whispering about me. In the distance, I heard two teachers having a conversation, so I quickly plucked up a little bit of courage and threw myself into the classroom. As soon as I saw everyone staring at me, I suddenly froze and couldn't move from the doorway, "You must be Kassia!" The teacher beamed before walking over to me, I just slightly nodded my head before giving her my pass and being directed to my seat, at the back of the class. As I got settled with my bag under my desk and took my books out, I felt a small tap on my shoulder, I turned around to see a girl with a grin on her face, "You're new!" She smiled, I nodded slowly, "I'm Carson, you're Kassia, right?" "Yeah" I nodded before I shook her outstretched hand, "So what do you have next?" She asked as she doodled on her jotter, "Umm Art with Miss Henry?" I said unsure if that was how you pronounced it, "Oh no honey, she's French, it's pronounced h-on-ree, she's very picky about it. I have Chemistry next but he won't be expecting me, do you want to go grab a bite?" She asked, I felt a little too awkward to say no, so I just quietly nodded.

"So where are we going?" I asked as she led me through a back alley, panic started to set in before we emerged at a quiet street lined with cafe's and little shops, I was taken back a bit with the gorgeous neon light signs and brickwork, "This is my favourite coffee shop to come to, it's always quiet" she smiled before we headed towards the only coffee shop there was on the street, it was quite small and blended in with the colour of the brickwork, a blink and you'll miss it kind of thing. As we entered I was so dazzled by the fairy lights strung from the walls and lovely decor, "Hi there, what can I get you?" "Can I get a coffee, two slices of your carrot cake and..." Carson asked before turning to me, "Oh just a black tea please" I smiled, before sitting down at the table seated right next to a window, "This is such a cool little street" I sighed staring out into the world, "Yeah, I've been coming here since I was 12, it's a good little retreat to forget about everything" she sighed, "So why'd you bring me here?" I asked confused as to why she chose this specific spot, "Well you're new, you don't know anyone or any streets, it's scary being alone" she shrugged before making space on the table for our order, "Thank you" I smiled, "Plus, you look fly as HELL in that outfit and I could use me a bestie like that" she laughed before sipping her coffee, I had a feeling that we were going to get along great.

*2 Hours Later*
"Wait! What! So you just threw the ball AT HIS HEAD!!" I gasped before laughing, "Yes!! He went absolutely off his head!!! It was hilarious!! You should've been there!" Carson giggled as she dug into the rest of my cake, "Are you sure you're not hungry?" She asked with a mouthful of carrot cake, "No, I'm fine" I laughed as I continued sipping on my second cup of black tea, "Okay, I'm gonna go pay for this and then we can get going" I smiled and before she could object I ran to the barista, "Ready to pay?" He asked I nodded before he added up everything, "That is $7.75 please" he smiled, I quickly used my card before thanking him and grabbing Carson to leave, "But the cake!!!!" She cried as I tried to drag her out the door, "You're such a child" I laughed, "Go get it and bring it with you in a napkin" I sighed as I watched her rush back to the table to grab the cake. As I continued to walk on, watching her, I felt hit a force before I felt to the ground, "Oh my god are you okay!?" a voice asked as a dark figure stood over me, "Yeah, I'm sorry" I groaned as I went to get up, receiving some help from this stranger, "I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going" I smiled embarrassed, "No it's my fault, are you okay? Can I buy you a coffee?" He asked, "No thanks" I rushed before I looked up and saw this short guy, with spiky hair, covered with tattoos, "I'm Jaime" he smiled as he stretched his arm out, "I'm sorry" I smiled back politely before I grabbed Carson and rushed out of the street, "What was that about?" She asked looking behind us, I never answered as I began to pick up the pace.
