Don't Make This Easy

Chapter Two

“Michael Christopher Fuentes, you put me down right now!” I screamed.

I had dropped my water gun when he picked me up, Vic was running toward us, ready to spray me down with his water gun, sufficiently kicking me out of current war we were in.

“Any last words Jace?” Vic asked, with a slightly evil laugh.

I didn't get a chance to say anything before Tony and Jaime came running over, Casey following behind them. They distracted Vic and Mike long enough for me to make my escape.

The three of us ran and hid behind one of the other band’s buses. I could hear Vic, Mike, and Casey looking for us. They weren't sneaky. Far from it. As they closed in on us I dropped to the ground and crawled under the bus. Jaime and Tony caught on to what I was doing and did the same.

I watched their feet walk past us, and waited till they were almost out of view before I rolled out from under the bus. I ran over to the next one, keeping a close eyes to make sure we weren't going to get caught, and moved to the next, Tony and Jaime following close behind.

We made it to our bus, where Mike, and Vic were standing. Casey had disappeared. I dropped to the ground again, laid my gun on my arms so it wouldn't drag on the ground and give us away, and crawled under the bus until I reached the front, dangerously close to the boys. Even the slightest noise would give away our position now. Tony and Jaime joined me and we waited, hoping that Casey would return soon so we could take them all out at once.

“Where the hell did they go?” Vic asked.

“I'm telling you, she's magic, and she passed her magic onto Jaime and Tony.” Mike said.

I laughed silently to myself and looked over at Tony and Jaime who were grinning next to me. We all looked ridiculous, with eyeliner on our faces as warpaint and bandanas around our heads.

We watched their feet as they turned in circles and looked around. I looked behind us when I heard footsteps approaching and I immediately recognized Casey’s shoes.

“They're absolutely nowhere to be found.” He said as he walked over to Mike and Vic.

I looked at the boys, motioning for Tony to roll out on the right, Jaime to crawl out the front, and me roll out on the left on the count of three. I held my fingers up and counted down, then we all screamed and made our move. I quickly rolled out from underneath the bus and jumped up, spraying the three guys with my water gun, Jaime and Tony doing the same. They all dropped their water guns, held their hands up, and surrendered.

“Alright, alright! We give up!” Vic yelled, trying to block the water from his face. We all stopped and high fived each other.

“You guys really need to learn how to check underneath things.” I laughed.

“Quick, while we're still pumped, get a picture of us!” Jaime said to the other guys.

Mike pulled out his and Tony and Jaime lifted me that one leg was on each of their shoulders. We all held our water guns in the air while Mike snapped the picture.

“I see the battle is finally over.” We all looked over and saw Kellin walking over to us.

“We won.” I said proudly as Tony and Jaime put me back on the ground.

“I can see that.” He laughed. “So there's this party in a little while, you guys wanna come?”

“Where is it?” Mike asked.

“At a hotel nearby. A couple bands got together and rented out like a whole floor, said everyone on tour is invited.” He explained.

We all agreed to go and Kellin gave us the address to the hotel and told us what floor to go to. We all headed back to the bus to change and chill out for a little while before we headed over.

While we were killing time I went into my bunk and pulled out my laptop. I hadn't gotten many pictures yet seeing how the first show wasn't until tomorrow, but I had snapped some pictures of the guys on the bus while we were on our way here, and some pictures from before I got dragged into the water gun fight. I uploaded what I had and edited them so they were ready to be posted, then I shutdown my laptop, pushed it to the end of my bunk, and closed my eyes. Not even a minute later the curtain on my bunk was ripped open and I saw Jaime grinning at me

“Can I help you?” I asked. He laughed and nodded.

“Pregame shots. Get up.” He said and then ran back up front.

I climbed out of my bunk and stretched, then headed up to the front lounge. The guys were all staring around the table, shots in hand, waiting for me. I walked over to them, picked up my glass, we said cheers and all took our shots, then headed out.

When we got to the hotel we went straight up to the third floor. Mike, Jaime, and I went straight for the alcohol. I was ready to have a good time. I didn't really party much when I was home, which bored the guys. But I always joined the pre and post tour party to get me ready for the drinking and partying that came with touring.

I poured myself a cup of rum and coke, trying to ignore the tequila bottle that was sitting on the table in front of me. It was by far my favorite drink, but I had no limits with it and I usually ended up going a little crazy.

“Rum and coke? When there's a bottle of tequila right in front of you?” Jaime gasped. I laughed and nodded as Mike grabbed my face and put his hand on my forehead.

“Are you sick?” He asked, pretending to sound worried.

“No I'm not, now let go of my face.” I laughed, slapping his hands away.

“Why are you grabbing my cousin’s face?” I turned around, smiling widely.

“Zack!” I squealed, jumping on him and hugging him.

“How’ve you been Jacie?” He laughed. I let go of him and stood back on the ground.

“Good, I just got my own place finally.” I told him.

“Oh I bet your dad was happy about that.” He said. I laughed and nodded.

“Oh yeah, thrilled. He only cried twice.” Zack laughed and shook his head.

“You dad is the most emotional man I've ever met.”

“He just loves us a lot.” I said with a shrug as I sipped my drink.

“Well I'm gonna get back to the guys. Don't be a stranger.” He said, hugging me again and then disappearing.

I watched him walk away, growing when I saw Alex welcoming him back to the group excitedly. It was gonna be a fun night trying to avoid him. I turned back to the guys, and Vic raised his cup.

“Here's to Jacie’s first time back at Warped Tour in four years!” He said.

“And to hoping that she survives it.” Mike laughed.

I laughed and shook my head as we all raised our cups. After that we all went our separate ways. I walked around for a while, sipping my drink, until I ran into Jenna from Tonight Alive.

“Hey, Jacie.” She said. Despite her smile I could tell that she seemed a little frustrated.

“Hey Jenna, what's up?” I asked. She shrugged as we walked over to the drink table.

“Americans.” She said simply as she grabbed a beer and opened it. I raised an eyebrow at her as I poured myself another rum and coke.

“Americans?” I asked. She nodded. “You know you're talking to an American right?” I laughed

“Yeah, you're fine. Its the younger bands, new to the scene, getting way too into the whole sex, drugs, and rock and roll thing.” She sighed. I sipped my drink and nodded slowly.

“They getting out of hand?” She nodded again.

“Very. Don't go into the next room over unless you want to find out for yourself.” She warned. I pressed my lips into a hard line. I could only imagine what they were doing in there. They had the connecting door closed so it couldn't be anything good.

“Like I'm all for hanging out with them, but they don't have to bring that stuff to big parties like this. If anyone finds out we’re all fucked. They can save that shit for their buses.”

“They'll figure it out the hard way.” I told her. I knew I did.

“Yeah, your probably right, but I'm not gonna stick around to watch it happen.” She said. “If you guys decide to leave, the boys and I are gonna have a small fire, you're welcome to join.”

“I'll definitely consider it. Thanks Jenna.” I said with a smile. She smiled back at me before she left.

I walked around a little while longer, looking for at least one of the guys, occasionally making small talk with some of the other band members that I knew. After about an hour of walking aimlessly around this one room, with no luck finding any of the guys, I assumed they were in one of the other room. Which meant if I wanted to find them I either had to wait for them to come back in here, or go through the room where all the crazy ‘Americans’’ were, since apparently there was a rule about using the actual doors to the rooms for anything except joining the party, or leaving permanently. Something about trying to keep the noise contained. I really didn't understand it.

Eventually I decided to go find the guys. I didn't feel like waiting around for them to make an appearance, who knew how long I would be waiting. I went over to the connecting doors and stopped. I took a deep breath, not sure if I was ready to see what was going on in there, but I opened the door anyways.

Immediately a wave of smoke hit me. All I could smell was weed. They had almost completely clam baked the room. I closed the door behind me and looked around. They were smoking, maybe Mike was in here. As I looked around, I saw a bunch of kids sitting around the coffee table that was in the room. I saw the powder on the table. Some kid took a huge line and screamed in excitement when he had finished it.

“Come on Jacie Rae, live a little.” Damian laughed, clapping his hand on my back.

“Trevor used to do it with us all the time. If your brother does it, it can't be too bad, right?” Abby said.

I looked down at the table in front of me that was covered with drugs and paraphernalia. I knew in my gut it wasn't a good idea. Trevor always told me not to get involved with this stuff. That it would ruin my life. But if he did it then why couldn't I? Why should I listen to a hypocrite?

“Alright, I'll do it.” I said nervously.

Damian and Abby both grinned wildly and got everything ready for me. Abby pushed the mirror toward me and handed me a rolled up dollar bill. I put the bill to my nose, and took the line quickly.

“Fuck!” I yelled. My nose burned. Fuck that hurt.

“Eh, you'll get used to it.” Damian said, waving it off. He took the mirror and he bill back and did a line for himself.

I stayed with them for a while. They kept doing line after line and I stared at them, almost in awe. How could they just keep going like this? I only did one line and I felt like I needed to run a marathon and I wouldn't sleep for a month.

“How are you doing so much?” I asked. Abby laughed loudly.

“Oh honey, we've been doing this for years, this is only your first time. Don't worry, you'll be able to keep up with the big kids eventually.” She said, flashing a sweet smile at me.

“You should see how much your brother can do.” Damian told me. “That dude is a beast. Kinda nice not having him around though, more for us, right Abs?” She laughed and nodded.

I looked down at my hands and started picking at my nail polish. How could them not miss Trevor? He was their best friend. You're supposed to miss your best friend when they move.

“You want another line?” Damian asked, pulling me from my thoughts. I shook my head.

“Oh come on. You know you want to.” Abby said, pushing the mirror back over, everything ready for me. I shrugged and gave in. One more would hurt me, right?

“That's my girl. Get crazy little Rae.” Damian said.

2005

Where is it? Where the fuck did it go? I can't go to the service like this. I needed it.

“Looking for something?” Alex asked. I jumped and spun around, I didn't realize he was here. I shook my head frantically.

“Uh, no. No I'm fine.” I said quickly. Alex raised an eyebrow at me and held up a plastic bag. My eyes went wide.

“You sure you're not looking for this?” He asked.

“Where did you find that?” I asked, my voice shaking just like the rest of me.

“Why the fuck do you have this shit Jacie?” He asked, raising his voice. “You said you'd stop. You promised me that you would stop!”

“I'm trying, I just. I can't get through funeral without it. I can't Alex. I need it. Just for today. Please.” I begged. Alex glared at me and turned around. “No, Alex. What are you doing?” I asked as I followed him down the hall. We went straight into the bathroom and locked the door behind himself, keeping me out.

“Alex don't.” I said, banging furiously in the door. “Alex, stop it!” The toilet flushed and the door unlocked. I ripped the door open and ran in. Alex grabbed my arm and wrapped his arms around me despite my protests.

“What the fuck Alex!” I screamed, tears running down my face.

“You done.” He said. “I'm sick of you being strung out all the time. Either you stop this, and let me help you, or your get professional help, whatever. Or we're done. It's your choice, but I'm not gonna keep dating a fucking coke head.”

*end flashback*

“Jacie?” I snapped out of my thoughts at the sound of Vic’s voice. I looked up at him, suddenly panicking. “What are you doing in here?” My eyes darted around the room as I stood there shaking. This looked bad. I shouldn't have even come in here. I should have just waited for them to show up again.

“Uh, I was just looking for one of you guys. And now I found you, so I'm gonna leave now. Jenna said her and her guys were gonna have a small fire and I'm gonna join.” I said, speaking quickly. Vic nodded slowly as he looked at me suspiciously. I sighed and shook my head.

“I didn't do anything. I swear.” I told him. “But I am leaving. I don't trust myself around this stuff.”

“Alright.” He said. “You want me to walk you back?”

“No I'm good. Go have fun. I'll meet you back at the bus later.” I said. Vic nodded and gave me a quick huge before I left and he returned to the party.

When I got back to the lot, I could see the glow of a fire and headed toward it. When I got closer, Jenna saw me and waved me over with a big smile on her face. I joined the group sitting next to her and Derek from Mayday Parade.

“You made it just in time, we were gonna have a small jam session, and now you can join in.” Jenna said excitedly.

“Oh I'm not singing.” I laughed. “I don't sing. Only in the shower and in the car.”

“Come on, I've heard you sing, you're great.” She laughed. “Plus, we’re all gonna be singing, and it's just us. Let loose, have a little fun.”

I sighed but agreed to join in. We sat around for a while, all of us doing our own covers of our favorite songs, covering each other's songs, drinking, and just have a good time. At one point Alex and Brooks started playing A Shot Across the Bow, and Derek asked me to join in, so I did, despite the fact that other band's were coming back from the party now and the crowd was getting bigger. We took turns singing each verse, and did the chorus together. As we neared the end of the song, I noticed that the guys had come to join us when Vic snuck up behind me and put his hand on my shoulder, scaring me, but not making me mess up like I knew he was trying to do.

“I've had enough but it's all for the best
I need to get a few things off my chest
There's got to be another way I can say it
But to get it right, I have to think straight”

Derek finish his part, and I took over. I hesitated for a moment, catching Alex out of the corner of my eye. Ironic how it was time for me to sing this line just as he showed up.

“I hope she tasted like the way I used to taste” I sang, subtly directing that part at him.

“I can't believe I'd even say this to you now
When you won't listen at all.
I hope you fall into the ocean
And the current leaves you helpless swimming around
As the waves crash over you and over you until you drown.”

I saw Alex shake his head and walk away as Derek and I finished the song. Maybe it was harsh directing this song at him, but I couldn't really bring myself to care right now. I was drunk, I was tired, and even after five years, seeing his face still put me into an almost instantaneous fit of rage.

When the song was finished I got up to grab a beer, and Mike grabbed me, picked me up and hung me upside down.

“Mike! Why do you do this to me.” I whined, trying not to laugh.

“Because you're small and I can.” He laughed.

“So you'll sing with them but not me, wow I feel loved.” Vic said as he crouched down to my level, pretending to be offended. I just stuck my tongue out at him and crossed my arms over my chest.

“Yeah, because they don't try to make me sing on stage with them.” I told him.

“We might, you never know.” Jenna said with a wink.

“Alright, Mike can you put me down? Or at least right side up? All the blood and alcohol are rushing to my head.” I said. He flipped me right side up and put me down. The sudden movement threw me off a bit and I grabbed Tony's arm to stabilize myself.

“I am capable of standing on my own.” I said.

“Aw, why'd you put her down? It's fun annoying her.” Jaime laughed.

“Because she may be tiny but she's also violent.” Mike said.

“She's not violent, she's a sweetheart.” Jake said. All four of the guys busted out laughing.

“Yeah, sure she's not.” Tony said, still laughing. I glared up at him and punched his arm in a joking manner.

“See, abuse, right there. We have witnessed now!” Jaime said.

“I don't know what you're talking about. We didn't see anything.” Jenna laughed.

“Alright, well we're stealing our photographer back now.” Vic said.

“Alright, have a good night you guys.” Jenna said with a wave.

As we walked back to the bus I wrapped my arm around Tony's waist to keep myself steady as I walked, which honestly didn't help much because he was more drunk than I was.

“I saw that jab you took at Alex.” Tony said.

“I didn't think anyone noticed that.” I said.

“Oh I think everyone saw it.” Jaime laughed. “It was pretty brutal honestly, even if was lowkey.”

“You're a little savage Jacie Rae.” Mike said as we approached the bus.

I rolled my eyes and removed my arm from Tony's waist as we boarded the bus. I went to sit down on the couch but Vic motioned for me to follow to the back lounge so I did. When we got back there he closed the door behind us and we both sat on the couch.

“What's up?” I said.

“Do I need to be worried?” He asked me, catching me off guard.

“What?” I asked.

“Do I need to be worried.” He said again. I realized he was talking about seeing me in that room earlier, and I shook my head.

“No.” I said. “No I'm fine.” I could tell that he wasn't fully convinced.

“Are you sure?” He asked. “Because if you need to leave the tour we won't be upset. You know we love having you around but we'd rather you be sober.”

“Vic, I'm fine. I'm not gonna touch the stuff. I'm just gonna stick to bus parties and hanging out with people that aren't gonna bring that shit near me.” I told him.

“Promise?” I nodded and held my pinky out to him.

“I promise.” I said as he wrapped his pinky around mine.
