A Flair for the Dramatic

Practice Makes Perfect

Over the course of the next few days was continuous practice and more practice and more practice. I don’t think I’ve ever been this tired from practicing so much, but it had to be done. Keri is nowhere to be found and she never misses a practice, ever. She only lives next door for gods sake. Shows how much things have changed.

“So we have all the chords down?” I asked looking to Tony.

“Yeah, I think I’ve got it all down.” He answered.

Both Jaime and Tony are quick learners I was, well, surprised and they were really good at what they do. I couldn’t wait to get on the road with them, they were really cool dudes. Jaime was full of energy always while Tony was a little less energize, but I think he needs more time to warm up to Mike and I, then we’ll get to see his true colors.

“I’m so pumped for this tour already, these past few days have been fun!” Jaime rejoiced.

“Same here, I’m all too excited.” Mike said from behind his drums.

“GOOOOD MORNING MY BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN!!”

We all turned to the door of our practice room to see Keri with a stack of what I love the most. Pancakes.

“Ker-Bear!” Mike jumped up from his kit to greet her. “Where have you been?”

“I’ve been a tour guide and a girlfriend, sorry, but I’m here now with chocolate chip pancakes. I hope I didn’t miss much.”

“No not at all, just everything.” I answered grabbing a plate.

We took a break to eat and how I have missed these pancakes.

“So I’m going to get to hear a song, right?” Keri asked.

“Yes of course, anything for the girl who got me a new awesome job,” Tony said.

“Yeah what he said,” Jaime said with a mouth full of pancakes. “By the way Keri these are amazing.

“As always, god I’m so glad you’re home.” Mike said.

I rested my head on Keri’s shoulder, “Me too.”

“So that song?”

“Right.”

We got up and took our position behind our instruments. I loved everything about this new album and the group. I loved the sound. While in Before Today everything was so fast paced and now it’s more dramatic, a lot more of my feelings have gone into these songs. A lot of feelings I tried to leave behind, but couldn’t. I decided to play Diamonds and Why Men Buy Them, it was just all too ironic. I didn’t know for so long that Keri was with Aaron, but once and only once she came home for a weekend and we rekindled and hooked up. I thought we were okay again, I thought we could make it as a couple again, but clearly that wasn’t Keri’s intention. The next day she was gone and now she’s with someone new. I wanted a new relationship, I wanted to start over, I thought we would spend the rest of our lived together. I still do.

“What did you think?” Mike asked.

“It was…um…interesting. But in a good way. I’m so used to hearing Before Today material, I wasn’t expecting…this. I like the lyrics, a lot. What’s the name of the song?”

“Diamonds and Why Men Buy Them.” I answered.

“Oh…. Okay well play me something else. I love the sound, Jaime and Tony you guys are picking up quick.” Keri said.

She understood the song that quick, huh? She was always good at that.

“Yeah you already know!” Jaime said.

Tony simply smiled.

“And what about me? And if you say I was bad I’m coming over and beating you with my drumstick.” Mike said.

Keri stuck her tongue out at Mike.

“It sucked, worse thing I’ve ever heard. My ears are bleeding because of your terrible drumming,” Keri teased.

Mike threw a drumstick at Keri, which she threw out the window.

“Good job guys, I can’t wait to hear the whole album, or at least what you guys are playing on tour. So I’m going back next door and I’ll see you guys later.”

“I’ll walk you over, guys take five.” I said while taking a hold of Keri’s arm.

We walked out and immediately she was ready to fight.

“That was a dick move, do you know that?” Keri half yelled.

I knew I had struck a chord, I wanted to. “I’m glad you liked the song. So now that that’s out of the way, let’s go out tonight. Just as friends you know since you’re with Aaron and all.”

“Too late, I’m going out with Tony.”

And with that she walked back into her house, slamming the back door as hard as she possibly could.

Notes

I want to apologize in advance if I don't update next week. I'm babysitting my cousins and they take up so much of my time to write a few chapters. I'll try my best, but until then I hope you enjoy!
