Home Is Where You Are
This is what I come home for. As much as I hate leaving I love coming home. Watching my 3 beautiful girls running and playing in the sand on the beach. Standing back I see my bandmates with their girl friends and our families gathered around for the Fourth of July and for my little girls birthday though their real birthday isn’t for another 3 days.
There in front of me in my beautiful wife and Kate, who is now engaged to Mike, chasing around Emma and Katie in their bathing suits they got as birthday presents. They’re still so little just being a few days from turning 3. Watching them grow is amazing even if I’m not here every day. Somehow I’ve managed to be home when they said their first words and when they started walking. I don’t know how I was able to do it but I did. And somehow I’ve been able to be home for Christmas and their birthdays every year.
If it weren’t for their hair I probably wouldn’t be able to tell them apart. They both have hazel eyes, my dimples, their mothers nose. The difference in them is their hair. Katies hair is dark like mine and Emmas hair is like Haleys. They have health problems that they were born with but they can work through it and they will. I know my little girls will be something great. As for their mother, I fall in love with her every fucking day. She has bad days where the light goes out of her eyes but as soon as the twins run up to her or call out for her the light returns.
The way my daughters and my wife look at me is what makes everything so worth it. Leaving sucks but coming home and my twins jumping into my arms then holding Haley all night. I don’t think I could be who I am without them.
“Daddy!” I hear Emma and Katie yell and they run to me with Haley right behind them. Haley knocks me to the ground and our daughters climb on top of me giggling so Haley and I begin to play tackle them. I don’t think this smile will ever leave my face. Right now everything is perfect and I couldn’t ask for more. This is what I wake up and come home for.
