After 3 and a half hours at the studio I’m getting home to my beautiful fiance. The rest of the band decided to join in due to the fact that they hardly see Haley and I since she had been put on bed rest. I unlock and open the door then the 4 of us file into the living room. “Haley, babe I’m home. I hope you don’t mind I brought the guys,” I call out expecting her to be in the chair still.
When I see she’s not there I go towards our bedroom, knowing that if she had been in the kitchen she would’ve replied. Tony, Mike and Vic make themselves at home sitting around the living room while I search for Haley. I round the corner to the hall thinking that she must’ve gone to the bathroom. I stop dead in my tracks, my body goes weak and I fall to my knees seeing her lying there bleeding. Time moves so slow as I move towards her, “Baby, can you hear me?” I half shout. “Haley open your eyes please. Wake up baby.” I continue shouting as I grab her trying to make her wake up, trying to see her blue eyes. Suddenly the guys are rushing into the hallway and I look up at them, “Help me!” I yell at them and they go into a frenzy.
“Go start the truck it’s bigger,” Mike says to Vic and off Vic runs then Mike rushes to my side. “C’mon man, let’s take her to the truck.”
Tony tries to get between me and Haley, “No.” I stand then crouch down, lifting her into my arms. “Go get a towel,” I say roughly and Tony runs to the bathroom to get one. Tony comes back and throws the towel on the front seat of the truck and comes to my side by the back doors of the truck. My 3 friends help me get my fiance into the backseat where she lays unconscious with her head in my lap and her legs across Tonys lap. Mike tosses the towel at me as he climbs into the drivers seat and Vic takes place in the front passenger and we begin to speed down the road towards the hospital. I press the towel between Haleys legs in hope that it might help stop the bleeding.
We reach the hospital much quicker than an ambulance would have gotten us here and I carry Haley into the Emergency Room with the guys at my heels. The hospital staff quickly brings out a hospital table and has me lay her on it then begins to check her as they run to an operating room. “It’s okay baby. Everything’s going to be okay Haley,” I tell my pale fiance as I run with them alongside the bed. “I love you baby.”
They rush Haley through doors at the end of the hallway we’ve just gone through and one guy stays back and stops me from continuing on with the bed. “Can you give me information about her please?” The man asks as he leads me to a desk where he grabs a clip board.
“Her name is Haley Grace James. She’s 23, her birthday is November 15. She’s almost 34 weeks pregnant and she wasn’t supposed to be due for another month. I’m her fiance and the father,” I speak trying to calm myself.
“Any allergies to medications?”
“No. Can I be with her?”
“No, but we will get you as soon as you can and we will keep you updated. Can I get your name?”
“Jaime Preciado.”
“Ok. I’ll give you an update as soon as we know anything, but I’d advise you to not get your hopes up.” I nod and walk towards the lobby with my shoulders slumped and my head down. I look up only for a second when I see Mike, Vic and Tony standing anxiously in front of me by a wall at the side of the room then I fall against Tony and he puts his arms around me. Fuck trying to stay strong. My fiance is in an operating room, possibly going to die along with our daughters. How the hell is anyone supposed to stay strong through that.
I remove myself from Tonys arms and push my back against the wall we’re next to and slide down to the floor in defeat. “Jaime what did they say?” Vic asks from beside me. I hadn’t even noticed the guys had sat with me.
“They don’t know anything right now. Obviously she’s miss carrying but that doesn’t mean they’re dead but they might be. She might be dead. She was on the fucking floor. She had to have fallen. I’m going to lose them. All 3 of them at once, they’re being taken from me,” I’m barely able to keep myself from yelling.
“You don’t know that man. They’ll be fine. You’re going to get through this. We’re staying here no matter what. Haley’s going to be okay. All 3 of them are going to be okay,” Mike tries to reassure me and I can tell from the look in each of their eyes that they’re only holding it together for me.
“They’ll be okay,” I hear Tony whisper to himself.
Two hours has passed with us pacing back and forth, sitting then standing then sitting again, never sitting still. We eventually found a table that had cleared and sat at it. There’s a pile of food from the vending machines in the middle of the table due to it being dinner time to which I have yet to touch. We’re all just sitting here in silence when I speak up, “We had picked names last night.”
“What?” Tony asks.
“We picked names for the girls last night. We were going to put their names above their cribs when I got home,” I pause staring down at the table. “She was so excited when we decided. I found her in the girls room this morning when I woke up. She was humming one of our songs. The way she looked,” trailing off I smile at the thought of the way she looked this morning. “What am I supposed to do without her?” I ask myself.
“Jaime Preciado?” I see the male nurse that had spoke to me when they took away my fiance. I walk over to him and nod waiting for the news.
