“One month to go huh Haley?” Vic asks from in front of the grill. We decided to all gather at Vic and Mikes house for the Fourth of July since there’s a pool and it’s not exactly like I can go to the beach. I begged Jaime for about 3 hours before he caved into coming to this. Most of our friends and family are here and it’s amazing seeing everyone because I haven’t been able to go anywhere much.
“Yea she’s at 33 weeks and she’s fucking lucky I brought her,” Jaime says from beside me. “I still don’t get why you insisted on a bathing suit either. You can’t even see your feet.”
“We’re going to help her into the pool. Just on the steps.” Jaime gives Kate a disapproving look. “Don’t give me that look, asshole. It’s not like sitting in the water will send her into labor, if it were going to then she would’ve had the babies in the shower or something.”
Jaime complies and helps me up. Let’s just say I want to cut off my feet and make my back numb at this point, plus cravings suck but at least I get really good food. It’s a huge relief to be sitting in the cool water. Surrounded by my friends, especially since the boys just got back 2 weeks ago from tour. There was so many videos and tour updates throughout it, then there was the phone calls and video calls. I was never alone. Nearly 24/7 someone was with me, no one convinced that I’m okay. I half hated it and half loved it. I wasn’t on my own to try to stand or get food or try to get into bed. Even when I showered, one of the girls would sit outside the door in case I had slipped or something. It got annoying at times but it just shows they care.
It feels so nice being in the water. It’s so hot today, or at least it feels like it to me. I finally was able to get Jaime to go hang out with his other friends and family. “It’s like he’ll never leave your side.” remarks Emily floating in the water a few feet from me.
“You should have seen him when he got home from tour. Okay more like you should see him when we’re at home. He’s always with me. Plus he like putting his hands on my stomach to see if he can feel them kick. It’s hilarious actually. Jaime will literally just sit there holding my belly while we watch a movie and he gets the most excited look when he feels something.”
“He fucking loves you Haley. There’s no denying it. I swear, what guy would be doing that if he didn’t love you.”
I smile, wading out into the shallow water. I understand why Jaime’s so apprehensive about me doing things like this. I get nauseous and dizzy so easily. “I know he does. I don’t doubt it anymore.”
“You know who does what?” Jaime inquires from behind me with a smile in his voice showing he heard what I had said. He presses a soft kiss on my shoulder and placing his hands on the sides of my stomach. “Are you fine?” I nod. “Are you sure? Don’t lie to me baby.”
“Jaime, I’m fine. Have fun. Stop worrying so much. I’m going to get out in a bit. Go have fun, please.” I push my boyfriend towards the other end of the pool and give him a reassuring look.
“Overprotective boyfriend? By the way, where’s Kate?” Stephanie flashes me a smile.
“In the best way. And I assume she’s doing who knows what with Mike.” They laugh but I only smirk knowing it’s true. “So since she’s MIA it’s just the 3 of us.”
“Did you guys ever pick names, Hales?”
“We narrowed it down but we haven’t completely decided. I was going to name one and Jaime’s going to name the other so we just have to pick our favorites. I think I already know what my favorite is. When we decide we’re going to put the names above the cribs,” I address Emily.
“When did you finish the nursery?”
“This morning actually,” laughing I make my way out of the pool and use Tony as an anchor, steadying myself going up the steps. Once I’m out he hands me a towel to dry off a bit, though the sun will dry the water from my body quickly. “Thanks Tone. This shit is so much easier in the water. I can’t see my goddamn feet. How am I supposed to do this shit.”
“And to think you have a month to go,” laughs Tony, “Do you need anything Hales?”
I point towards the chair when I had been sitting when we first got here, “My dress please?” He hands me my dress, gives me a half hug then leaves to talk to other friends. I pull on my dress, I just don’t feel right being just in a bathing suit. I see Jaime’s out of the pool with Mike, Kate, Vic and Tony. I silently take place in my comfort zone at my boyfriends side in the middle of the yard. The conversation my boyfriend is in stops abruptly as he turns to me with a timid smile while Kate has a the biggest grin I have ever seen on her face.
“Hi baby. So, I would do this the proper way but,” Jaime stumbles on his words and I realize we’ve drawn everyones eyes to us somehow. He brings a small box out of his pocket, “Haley, I love you so fucking much you have no idea. I have always loved you. When we met we were young but I was always drawn to you. The quiet reserved shy girl in all of my classes and then we got close and I found out just how amazing you are. I found out why you were so quiet at school but I got you to be my friend and I found out how crazy and hyper you can be and I love it. You are the most beautiful women I have ever laid eyes on and I know you don’t believe that but trust me baby it’s true,” tears begin to slide down my face realizing what’s happening right now. “Everything about you is so perfect. I can’t go a single damn day without hearing your beautiful voice and I never want to. You’re the one I want to be with for the rest of my life. You’re the one I need to be with. I honestly don’t know what I would do if I ever lost you.”
Jaime lifts the lid of the ring box showing me an absolutely beautiful ring, a ring I’ve looked at and practically drooled over in a store in the mall then on the internet when the store closed. Is this even real? Is this really happening? “Haley, baby, will you please stay with me forever? Will you be my wife?”
“Yes. Fuck yes. I’d love to be your wife Jaime.” I beam and nod, tears still streaming down my face. My now fiance places the ring onto my left ring finger, fitting perfectly. The empty box falls to the ground as he places his hands on the sides of my face pulling me into a passionate loving kiss. The kiss breaks from our smiles growing due to the sound of cheering and clapping from our friends around us. I’m so consumed in the moment with Jaime that I had completely forgotten there’s other people around us. I don’t think I’ve ever cried out of happiness before but this is the most beautiful feeling. I know only 2 things could top this moment.
Jaime is my forever and now I’m his. He’s the only person to ever make me feel this loved and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Looking back he’s always been there for me, ever since we met. I giggle and rest my forehead against Jaimes. With Jaime is where I’ll belong forever.
