Have You Ever Really Danced on the Edge?

Chapter One

My heart was starting to race with excitement as we drew nearer and nearer to the venue to see my favorite band, Pierce The Veil. This was real. I was so happy to finally be able to see them. My friends and I were practically screaming the lyrics to The Balcony Scene. We were about 5 minutes away from the venue.
We all lived in Minnesota and a snow storm just went through yesterday. I was a nervous wreck while my friend Zelda was driving, but it looked like we would be fine. I was sitting on the passenger side, while Willow and Murphy sat in the back.
I was wearing a Pierce The Veil tank top with many bracelets, and black leggings with ripped jean shorts over them. I also was wearing my black Converse. My hair was done as it was usually, with the shaved patch in my black and blonde hair. I wore eyeliner with a wing to line my blue eyes.
It was still freezing outside, but I didn’t bring a coat. I sat in my seat and thought about how amazing it would be to meet them. I pushed my black and blonde hair out of my face.
“Right there! That’s the venue!” Zelda yelled, pointing to a big building a decent distance away from us. My heart pounded even faster and I couldn’t stop smiling. I smiled from ear to ear.
Just as we were taking a turn, Zelda’s old Chevrolet started sliding on the road. She tried to get the truck under control, but that made it worse. We were all panicking. Just as she tried to turn the truck again, we slid off the highway and started rolling down a hill. The truck toppled down the hill. The moment in which we were falling were the fastest moments of my life. I was being whipped around as the truck flipped over. I felt an excruciating pain in my head and then we stopped the car was upside down. Silence.
I was awake the whole time. I tried to move, I tried to yell, but my body was not obeying my brain. All I could hear was, what sounded like a car pulling up at the top of the hill. I heard a door slam and people running down the hill screaming to us. The voices sounded oddly familiar, but I was too busy panicking to think about who it was. The voices got closer and closer. I heard the doors open and my seat belt unbuckle. I felt arms wrap around me and started carrying me up the hill. I still couldn’t move or open my eyes.
“Guys, we need to get them to the hospital!” The voice of the person carrying me yelled. I knew exactly who they were, but just before I could mentally react, everything stopped.

*The day before*
“Emerald!” My best friend Zelda shouted. I walked out into the kitchen where she was standing at the counter. “Do you want to invite Willow and Murphy over for some pizza tonight?” She asked.
“Sure.” I said. The stereo had a Pierce The Veil CD playing quietly. I walked over and turned it up and switched it to The Balcony Scene. I don’t have a favorite Pierce The Veil song, but this one has always been very close to my heart. I started swaying to the music and let it consume me. You know, that feeling you get when you listen to a song you really love and all you want to do is move with the music, or jump around, and let it suck you in? That’s how I feel with that song.
They were my favorite band of all time. I’ve listened to them since I was about 16. I’m 23 now and I love just as much as I did when I was 16. For some reason, my friends and I haven’t been able to go to one of their concerts. We’ve tried, but something always ends up happening and we can’t. I would nearly cry every time that happened. But now I’m hoping with everything in me that everything goes okay. I’m going to see them tomorrow night.
“Can you believe we’re finally going to their concert tomorrow?” She asked, with excitement.
“I’m really excited.” I said. Excited didn’t even begin to describe how I felt about going to this concert. I was so much more than “excited.” I never really acted as excited as I was, unless I was around people who I felt comfortable with, but I couldn’t seem to hold this in. I felt like I was being obnoxious if I was acting too excited. I wasn’t really the type of person to express everything I’m feeling. I’m more introverted.
I picked up the phone to call Willow and Murphy who live about a block away from our apartment. Murphy picked up the phone after 2 rings.
“Hey.” I said. “You and Willow want to come over and order a pizza?” I asked. Zelda, Willow, and Murphy were my best friends. We considered ourselves sisters. They helped me, they’ve been there for me my whole life. Helped me through tough times, that are hard to think about. Even when for years I was distant because I was too afraid of my boyfriend at the time killing me if I made him too angry.
“Yeah, we’ll be over in a second.” Murphy said, before hanging up.
“They’ll be over in a minute.” I said, to Zelda. I sat at the counter with my phone, listening to the CD.
About 15 minutes later, I heard a knock on the door. I ran to the door to see Murphy and Willow followed by the pizza man. I paid him just as Zelda walked out to greet our friends. We all got our pizza and sat on the couch to watch tv.
The stereo didn’t stop playing and whenever The Balcony Scene came on I stopped what I was doing and listened to that.
All of my friends knew how much the song meant to me, so to them it was a normal thing for me to do that. We all loved Pierce The Veil with all our hearts, so we were all equally as excited as I was.
Then, all of our phones went off, saying that we had a winter storm warning, just as a snowstorm started to go through. But, we still decided to go to the concert tomorrow. Nothing was going to stop us from going to this concert. Willow and Murphy ended up staying the night with Zelda and I. And at around 12:30, we all went to bed, ready for the best night of our lives.

*AN: so I've been working on this for over two years now. I really like this story but I also hate it because I feel like its shitty. Now, just know that I may change things in this chapter and I might change a lot of things because I'm technically not done with it yet. It still has a lot flaws that I need to change, but I've gone over this chapter countless times and thought it would be good to just day fuck it and post it. I haven't posted it anywhere. Also, it may take a while update because I have revised some of it but not all of it and the later chapters do need to be fixed and reworked. I hope you understand and enjoy this story, please let me know what you think of it.*
