To Keep Fighting

“Alex… Alex? Alex!! ALEX, ARE YOU DEAD?!” I heard Lillian scream into my ear at the top of her lungs.
I had slept over at my best friend’s house last night and let’s just say that her morning roll calls may not be as fun as they sound.
“No Lilli, I’m pretty sure I’m alive…” I called to her. She replied a couple seconds later, screaming again, “Well, you better check your pulse.. ‘cause WE’RE GOING TO WARPED TOUR!!!”
I jumped out of bed, ran over to her, picked her up off the ground, and spun her around “HELL YEAH, WE ARE!”
We had been best friends since the seventh grade, so we were really comfortable with each other. She knew and loved me for the crazy freak I was.
“Sooooo..” she sang, “”What’cha wearing” I rolled my eyes and sighed. She was definitely the more “fun and stylish” one between us. I usually just threw on the first thing I saw. “Whatever is in my closet” I replied in the same sing-songy voice she had used a second ago.
I walked over to the pile of clothes I always leave at Lilli’s house for whenever. - My parents didn’t pay much attention to what I did and were never home.- I heard her voice again, this time a little further away. “Aww come on, Alex!” She whined. “What?” - “You gotta wear something special. You might meet someone..” She wiggled her eyebrows at me as soon as I walked back into the room.
Ugh. She tries too hard, but I still lover her to death. - I was still a little tired so I wasn’t being 100% myself. I took a quick shower and then started to get dressed. I decided to wear a Star Wars t-shirt (Yes, I’m a geek) and some black ripped jeans. I wrapped a thin, black leather choker around my neck as I walked over to my backpack. I slipped on my grey arm warmers that covered my self-harm scars.
God, I really need to talk to Lillian about that. She didn’t know that I cut again and I needed her to be able to trust me. I pushed the thought out of my mind and continued getting ready.
I ran downstairs to grab my shoes and saw Lilli’s mom standing by the kitchen sink. “Morning, love” She said as she motioned for me to come and give her a hug. Ms. Jones was like a mom to me. Scratch that- she was and is my only mother figure in my life. I practically lived with her. I trusted her with my life and she held a really special place in my heart.
“What’s the Warped lineup, again?” She questioned. “All Time Low, Of Mice and Men, Sleeping with Sirens, Black Veil Brides, and Pierce the Veil. -But those are only a few that I can remember.” I explained to her while lacing up my converse.
Lillian came crashing down the stairs and took one look at my face and then shook her head. “Girl, I love your beautiful face, but we gotta get some makeup on you.” I was never really good at makeup, but sometimes if i took a good amount of time I could make myself look 10% less ugly. I hated my appearance so I threw on some foundation, concealer, and a bit of eyeliner. I did some drawing and art on a regular basis so somedays I could force myself to pull off winged liner. Today was one of those days and I was pretty proud. “Better.” I whispered to myself in the mirror and sighed.
I hated hiding behind makeup, but I wanted to look decent today. After all, I was going to see my favorite band today, Pierce the Veil.
