Hungover, Fun's Over

“This is disgusting,” I muttered huddled in the bathroom sink trying to re-glue my twisted false eyelashes back into place, “Vic! Tony! Are y'all two ready?!”
“Wait,” I heard Vic half yell half slur from down the hall.
I heard some shuffling around, then a loud crash that caused me to stop what I was doing and be concerned for a fraction of a second.
“It's all good!” Tony yelled before entering the bathroom.
He grabbed me around my waist and picked me up from the sink. Still crouched in the same position I was lifted from my perch and sat on the floor.
“What the heck!?” I stood up and dusted off my jet black skinnies. I returned to fixing my eyelashes as best I could while Tony turned the water on.
“I have to wash my face. It's gross, I can feel it.”
“You did sweat a lot last night.”
“I'm a hot natured person.”
“No, you kept doing exercises all over the house. You bench pressed Vic like...6 times.”
He was quiet while he looked in the mirror at himself, trying to recollect the events from Sunday night. Soon, he shrugged it off and carried on, washing his face and using some of my toothpaste on his finger to brush his teeth.
A thud against the door indicated Vic's presence. He was leaned against the door frame, slouched over in a gray hoodie with a bright blue shirt underneath and some dark denim jeans. He sniffled loudly and adjusted his sunglasses before speaking.
“Sup.”
“Are you wearing those to school?”
He pulled his hood over his head and fixed his messily straightened hair.
“Yeah. I'm hungover.”
I rolled my eyes, finally at peace with how trashy my makeup would look for the day. It had been a rough night the night before. Not because of anything serious, but because hanging with the boys always meant some crazy shit was going to go down.
My parents had gone out of town, and not wanting to be alone the entire night I had invited over Mike, Tony, Vic, Jaime, and my best girl friend Nikki. We had agreed to play some video games, watch some movies, eat tons of junk food, and at the suggestion of the boys, have a “few” drinks.
I knew that a few to them meant destroying several 6 packs, killing a couple of bottles, and making drinks or shots that we read up about on the internet. I was not a heavy drinker, so it didn't take me long to fall far behind the boys when it came to the amount of alcohol consumed. Thankfully, Nikki helped me babysit them until almost three in the morning...on a school night. Jaime and Mike left to “go grab something from Mike's house” but did not come back, so once Nikki and I got the other two into bed, their intoxicated stupor making them pass out quickly, she left for home and I crashed.
Now, four hours later, Nikki was on her way to pick us up for school and I was regretting not passing out sooner. At least I wasn't alone in my suffering.
“Ugh,” Tony groaned, “this water is cold in my pores!”
“It will wake you up,” I said patting his back as I walked past him.
I tossed my silvery blonde hair into a messy bun that hardly served it's purpose and grabbed a distressed black sweater from my dresser to put over my tank top.
“Victoria!” Vic yelled even though I was hardly ten feet away from him. “Lead me to the car.”
“Oh my God,” I rolled my eyes again, walking back towards Vic and grabbing his wrist, “Tony, are you almost ready.”
“You got this buddy,” he was leaned over the counter staring at himself intently in the bathroom mirror, “You're Tony mother effing Perry. School? More like it all sucks! Okay, I'm ready.”
He flicked off the light and joined Vic and myself in the pastel purple hallway that was decorated by too many of my family portraits.
“You're mom is going to be so mad, Vic.” Tony teased, pushing Vic as we walked towards the front door.
“Not even. She's totally cool.”
“Yeah, only because she loves Victoria.”
“More like because regardless of what she tells him or Mike they're gonna do what they want to anyway,” I shook my head, helping Vic step outside and passing him like the Olympic Torch to Tony.
“Yeah, like I said she's cool.” Vic continued walking down the front steps of my porch.
Nikki was outside in her silver Mazda waiting for us. I half expected to see the other two boys with her, but it was just her by herself, dressed almost exactly the same as Vic. When we got in the car Tony sat shotgun, giving Nikki a fist bump, and Vic and I slid into the backseat, him resting his head on my shoulder.
“Victoria,” he mumbled, “your hair – it smells so nice.”
“Thanks, Vic.” I kicked my feet up on the console and Nikki threw the car into reverse.
The car ride to school was short. I only lived ten minutes from the high school, and in the mornings the traffic wasn't the worst. When school let out though, oh my word, it took half an hour for me to get home.
In the parking lot we had designated parking spaces. Categories were separated by class, and since we were juniors we had to park on the east side of the building – even though half of my classes were on the west side of the building.
Only five parking spaces down on our right were Mike and Jaime. Their heads were hanging over the back of the red truck that Mike drove. No doubt they were passed out waiting for school to begin.
We all hopped out of the car, and Vic went and slapped the back of both Mike and Jaime's heads. Mike was quick to wave a hand at Vic, trying to hit him in the face, and Jaime just tousled his unkempt hair.
“Yo, band practice and tacos tonight.” Vic leaned up against the truck and scratched the back of his head.
“Your mom,” Mike covered his eyes from the sun with what I assumed was an old, disgusting, dirty tee.
“Dude, that's like, your mom too though,” Tony placed his arms around Nikki and me.
“Then your mom, Tony,” Mike jeered.
Tony furrowed his brow, but the conversation quickly shifted.
“So next week is Valentines. Do any of y'all have any plans?” Nikki kicked some dirt underneath her shoe as everyone laid, leaned, and stood in hungover silence.
“My Valentine is gonna be my good friend, Jameson.” Mike groaned and stood up finally, then hopped out of the truck.
“I don't have anybody, but I think Victoria doesn't either,” Tony tightened his arm around my shoulder, “so wink wink.”
If I rolled my eyes anymore they would fall out of my skull.
“I'm going to make everyone my Valentines,” Tony smiled his usual goofy smile.
“I'm sure one of my many suitors will ask me to before it actually comes up. They're all just too intimidated I guess,” Nikki shrugged.
“Vic, what about you?” Tony turned us towards Vic who was slouching even further down the truck.
“Eh,” he raised his hands, clueless.
“Oh, c'mon, Vic,” Mike bumped into his older brother forcefully, “we all know you're going to buy chocolates and flowers for Ariella.”
Ariella was a beautiful girl. She had pale ivory skin, dark brunette hair, sparkling blue eyes, and lips so full you couldn't help but think they were fake. Not too mention she was petite and tall. It was no wonder that Vic liked her, and though every one of us supported him in trying to swoon her, she was...less appealing to the rest of us.
“I thought she was totally into Jaxon,” Tony looked curiously at Vic who was hiding his face by looking away from us all.
“It would just be nice to give her something,” Vic responded under his breath.
“I think that would be nice of you!” I piped in, going over to Vic and trying to assure him.
Even with his sunglasses on I could imagine the sincere thanks in his eyes, and after a brief moment of locking eyes with his sunglasses, he gave me a gentle half smile.
Before anything else could be said the bell rang. We were all walking towards the building to separate into our classrooms, though I had one class with Tony and Vic and three with Nikki, while Vic reminded everyone that band practice was tonight at six sharp.
“We all gather at the storage room, practice from 6:15ish to about 8:30ish, have a taco intermission, start back strong at 9:30 and finish around 11:00. Sound good?”
“Yeah, yeah, Vic,” Jaime pulled open the door and held it for the rest of us to enter, “we go through this every day. I'll see you, and you, and you, and not you, and I see you way too much.”
“We have a show next weekend – which is also Valentines day weekend – I wan-”
“Oh, I see,” Tony slapped Vic on the back as he walked past him into the almost unbearably cold building, “you want to invite Ariella to the show! That's why you're driving to practice so much.”
Everyone snapped their heads to Vic, who blushed instantly before pushing us all out of his way and starting for his first class.
“I just want us to be good. This summer I want to play a lot of venues, travel, get our name out there.”
The rest of us watched him disappear behind the east wing hallway. With more unnecessary words of departure because our squad was so extra like guacamole at restaurants, we split into our different directions.
Except Nikki and I – we went to first period together. I also happened to have that class with Ariella, so maybe I could get in a good word for Vic for Valentines Day, and possibly for the boys show the same weekend.
