One Hundred Absent Days

One Hundred Sleepless Nights

Lying in my bed that night, I wondered if my father would be upset about where I’d been. The guys didn’t seem like the trouble-making type. But they were smoking pot this morning, I reminded myself. Not that I personally thought that smoking was a bad thing, but my father did.

Pushing this stream of thought from my mind, I reminded myself that there was nothing going on, so it didn’t matter what my dad thought.

With that, I pushed myself up from my bed and went to my en suite bathroom to shower.

Running my fingers through my hair as the water poured over me, I let my mind wander back to watching the guys practice. One song in particular, I think Vic had called it Yeah Boy and Doll Face, was my favorite. I found myself humming it as I showered.

I stepped out and dried myself off, thinking back to the look on Mike’s face as he drummed. He had so much fun; he clearly loved what he was doing.

I wonder what Mike is doing right now, I thought idly. After combing my hair, I went back to my room and pulled on a clean pair of panties and an oversized Metallica t-shirt.

Crawling into bed, I lifted my phone to set my alarm, only to see a text from an unknown number.

Hey, it’s Tony. Mike gave me your number. I just wanted to say that I had a great time tonight. I’ll see you in class tomorrow.

I responded to Tony’s message that I had a great time too and that I looked forward to seeing him. I was surprised to have made a friend after only one day of school.

Smiling to myself, I let my heavy eyelids fall shut.

My sleep that night was far from restful. I slept for about two hours, then woke up. Staring at the ceiling, I realized that I was wide awake and wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep. What I’d give for a smoke right now, I mumbled bitterly to myself.

As if I were trying to literally wash the thoughts of drugs from my mind, I went to the bathroom to splash some water on my face. It didn’t work.

Liz?” Mike muttered groggily into his phone. “Liz, it’s one in the morning, are you okay?

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you,” I mumbled sadly.

No, it’s alright. Are you okay? Do you want me to come over?

“Can you do that?” I asked in disbelief, a smile slowly spreading across my lips.

I’ll be there in fifteen minutes.” I could already hear him shuffling.

“Mike?” I heard him pause. “Bring weed.”

I hung up and immediately went about getting dressed as quietly as possible.

Notes

I know that this took a while but I really like how this chapter turned out. Sorry it's kinda short.
