English class, typically my favorite, turned out to be the worst part of this day. When I entered the room, my teacher, Ms. Miller, hopped up from her desk and announced happily, “Everyone! We have a new student today! This is Elizabeth!”

“Um, hi,” I stuttered awkwardly, “I go by Liz, actually.”

Ms. Miller then pulled me aside to her desk and asked if I’d read Romeo & Juliet, which the class was currently studying. I told her I had, and that I had a copy at home. She allowed me to borrow a copy just for that day, and assigned me a seat next to a short boy with shoulder-length hair.

“Mr. Perry,” she said, “why don’t you show Liz here what page we’re on!”

“I’m-”

“Liz, yeah I gathered that,” the boy said with a laugh.

“Um, yeah,” I muttered, trying to find the page he told me. “Ah, the bedroom soliloquy scene!” I exclaimed happily.

“Nerd,” Tony said with a grin.

“Liz, since you’re so excited, why don’t you be our Juliet for today?” I tried to stammer out some excuse, but it was too late. My fate was sealed.

Stepping up to stand in front of the class, I recited the monologue about Juliet’s virginity without even looking at the page. Ms. Miller started a slow clap when I finished.

“Now, why don’t you tell us what this soliloquy is about?” she asked.

“Well, we know that Juliet is going to lose her virginity to Romeo that night…” I went on and explained out all the sexual innuendoes and metaphors.

“Sexy nerd, maybe?” Tony amended, still smirking at me.

We went back and forth joking with each other until the end of the class. So I guess it wasn’t a completely awful class.

“What’s your next period?” he asked me when the bell rang.

“Music.”

“Damn, I have chem. But my friend has music, so you’ could talk to him. Name’s Mike.”

“We meet again,” the velvet voice spoke. He was standing right behind me; I could feel his body heat on my back.

I spun around swiftly, looking up to meet his gaze. His eyes were still red and his breath smelled of weed. Everything about him intoxicated me.

“We haven’t officially met,” I said with a bite of my lip. I swore I could see desire in his eyes.

“Michael Christopher Fuentes,” he said, letting his eyes drop to trail over my body. He was very tall; even in my Litas, my eyes were still level with his collarbones. His… kissable collarbones.

“Liz.”

“That was vague.”

“Gotta leave a little mystery,” I whispered before walking away to take a seat.

Once I was sitting, I looked up to see that he was still standing there, gawking at me. I shook my head and turned my attention to untangling my earbuds. I soon noticed him taking the seat to my left. He sat quietly, but I noticed him glancing at me periodically.

When the class ended, I made my way to the door with Mike walking behind me. I could feel his eyes on me. “Liz,” he said softly, lacking the strong confidence he held earlier. Hearing my name pass through his soft lips sent chills down my spine.

“Yes, Michael Christopher Fuentes?” I asked with a smirk, turning to look at him. I stepped out of the way of the others exiting the classroom, so we were both leaning against the wall, looking hesitantly at each other.

“Could I get your number?” he asked, biting his lip. I gave it to him and we shyly parted ways.
