Chapter four

I was in my kitchen making a bowl of cereal when I heard my front door open. “If you’re here to murder me wait till I’m done with my cereal!” I called and continued what I was doing. Austin came around the corner a few seconds later with a small smile on his face. “Oh, it’s just you,” I observed then spooned cereal into my mouth.

“Wow nice to see you too Alan,” he gasped with mock offense. "And why are you eating cereal at three in the afternoon?" I rolled my eyes and swallowed my food.

“What’s up?” I asked curiously. It wasn’t unusual for Austin to just show up at my house but there was something different about him. He seemed… happier than usual.

“Not much, I was down the street and got kicked out pretty much so I thought I’d come hang out here for a little bit,” he explained.

“Wait,” I said quizzically, “you were down the street and got kicked out? Got kicked out of where?”

“Saint’s house. She lives down the street from you in the tan house with the gate in front of the door,” he clarified. I was trying to put it together how Austin found out where Saint lived and I couldn’t come up with anything. “I ran into her at DMV and she didn’t have a ride home so I gave her one. She made us lunch and let me wonder around her house but when I showed her the art room in the attic she suddenly got defensive and asked me to leave.”

“Austin,” I sighed and rubbed my brow, “you know it’s not her right?” I couldn’t help but feel like Austin was only being nice to Saint because she looked like his wife. I didn’t blame him, but it could blow up in his face and leave him even more depressed.

“I know that Alan,” he assured me but I still had my doubts, nevertheless I dropped the subject. Austin was a grown man and could make his own decisions. I wasn’t going to tell him to stop seeing Saint. If he wanted to spend time with her then he could; I just hoped nothing went wrong.

“Want some cereal?” I offered.

Austin left about half an hour later and I was left with the quiet of my house and my cats. The guys liked to joke that I would end up being a crazy cat lady if I didn’t find someone, but I liked being single. The last few relationships I had had didn’t end well and because of that I decided to just spend time enjoying my life without the stress of a girlfriend.

However, there was a girl nagging at me but not in a romantic manner, it was more of a curious manner. It couldn’t have just been Saint’s resemblance to Taylor that had Austin hooked. Maybe they were similar in personality or had the same mannerisms. There was only one way to find out.

I stood in front of Saint’s house for a moment before taking a deep breath and approaching the front door. I knocked twice rapidly then stepped back. “Uhh hi,” Saint answered. I noticed her eyes were red and her face was slightly blotchy. She had been crying.

“Hi, um, Austin said… I just… hi,” I stumbled over my words. For some reason, I found Saint intimidating. Unlike Taylor, Saint gave off this “I’ll kill you if you piss me off” vibe, but at the same time she had a guarded atmosphere.

“Would you like to come in?” She asked with uncertainty. It was obvious she was thrown off by me coming to say hi.

“Sure.” For a second I thought she was going to leave me out to dry. I stepped inside and shut the door behind me and followed Saint into the living room. “Whoa, this place is cool,” I complimented. Saint sat down on the sofa so I sat in the armchair across from her.

“Can I get you anything to drink? Water? Beer? Vodka?” Saint asked awkwardly. It was obvious that she wasn’t used to visitors and I couldn’t help but wonder why.

“Do you have orange juice to go with the vodka?”

“I think so.”

“So. I hear you live down the street,” Saint commented as grabbed the orange juice and bottle of vodka from the freezer.

“Yes ma’am. I’ve been in that house for about four years now,” I answered and sat down on one of the island stools. “When you’d move into this place?”

“Yesterday. When I ran into you and Austin at the store I had only gotten to be in the house for about ten minutes.”

“Oh. Where did you live before?” I was aware that I was being incredibly nosy, but I was curious.

“Here, but I went on a trip and when I came back my family surprised me with the house.” The way her voice shook as she answered intrigued me. Depending on the type of trip she was talking about, I wasn’t convinced that it was very good. “Here you go,” she mumbled and passed me a glass of orange juice and vodka.

“What are you doing later?” I asked unexpectedly. Saint raised her eyebrows and looked at me with surprise over her glass.

“Um nothing. Why?” She replied and set her glass down gently.

“Do you wanna have dinner? I really don’t feel like eating by myself and Austin has decided that he’s done socializing for the day,” I offered with a bright smile.

“Um,” Saint hesitated. I could see in her eyes that she was trying to decide what to say. “Yeah, that’d be nice. I could use some social interaction.”

“Awesome! I have to go feed my cats and spend some time with them first, but I’ll come pick you up around six?”

“Sounds good.”

“Can use your bathroom before I go?”

“Sure, first door on the right upstairs.” I finished my drink then ventured up the stairs. As promised the bathroom was the first door on the right. It was decorated like the rest of the house which wasn’t much of a surprise.

After I was done I went to wash my hands but there wasn’t any soap on the sink. So, doing the reasonable thing, I searched underneath for soap. None there. The next best bet was the medicine cabinet. I found the soap but I also found something else that caught my attention. There were five pill bottles all with Saint’s name on them. Clozapine. Xanax. Prozac. Zyprexa. Rozerem.

“Alright Saint, I’ll see you at six,” I announced as I walked back down the stairs. She was still in the kitchen doing something on her laptop.

“See you later Alan.” She replied. The entire walk home I couldn’t stop thinking about the pill bottles. I had memorized each of the names and planned to look them up when I got home. I already knew what Xanax was, but the other four I wasn’t familiar with. Maybe Austin should stay away from Saint after all.

Notes

I couldn't help but do a chapter for our beloved Ginger Princess. I think all of the odd chapters will be in Saint's pov and all of the even ones will be in Austin's or whoever's pov. I hope you guys enjoyed chapter four. Let me know what you thought.

Thanks for reading,

@Mrs.Brightside

I wanted to be as accurate as I could when it came to the tour everyone is on so I figured I'd add them in. There will be some mentions of Volumes too but I don't listen to them so they won't be as involved since I'm not familiar with their music.

I love the fact you added CTE. I love them so much. And I've only been to one concert without my mom too and that was Pierce The Veil, haha.
