Beauty Queen in Tears

three.

Vic and I talked about random shit for about ten minutes before I decided it was best I took a shower. He went back to join everyone outside while I dug through one of my suitcases pulling out a bra, underwear, a pair of shorts, and a black v-neck. The second the bathroom door was closed behind me I stripped down, tossing my uniform in the laundry basket by the sink. I turned the shower head on and waited a few seconds for the water to get warm. The moment I stepped into the water I felt like a whole new person.

The tension that was seemingly sewn into my bones melted away and went down the drain, I let out a blissful sigh, pushing my hair out of my eyes. I turned around and scanned through the beauty products that were lined against the shower wall. Anna had a little bit of everything, although most of the products were organic - whatever that meant. I grabbed the shower gel that looked most expensive and plucked my poof from the rack, squeezing an abnormally large amount on top of it. It smelled like cherries and pomegranates which quickly became my new favorite scent.

I was scrubbing at my arms when I heard the door open. "Occupado," I said, bringing shame to white people everywhere who were actually good at speaking Spanish.

"It's not like I can see anything," I heard Vic say, "plus I gotta take a piss."

I rolled my eyes and went back to washing myself. "Your attempts at seeing me naked have failed miserably."

Part of me was tempted to pull back the curtain and peek at his junk with an 'it's not like I can see anything', but I felt like saving that line for another time since I was positive there'd be more. "If I'm really as desperate to see you naked as you think, all I have to do is open the curtain." I could hear as he unzipped his shorts and began to relieve his bladder. It was probably terribly immature of me, but the idea of someone else taking a leak no more than two feet away from me was hilarious.

He grunted and it only made me want to cry from how hard I was laughing. It was the big, quiet laugh, where you couldn't even form noise. Even though I was in the shower, I could've sworn there were tears rolling down my face.

"Oh, and just a heads up... there are a few more people over than there was when you first got home."

I groaned.

"Just thought you'd want to know," he chuckled, flushing the toilet.

I screamed as the water became what I imagined the flames of hell felt like. Pressing my back against the far end of the shower to keep from ending up in the hospital with third-degree burns. I huffed, Vic probably knew what he was doing when he waltzed in for a wee in the first place. Making the water ten times hotter was probably his revenge for my rejecting him. "Fuckin' beaner..."

~*~*~*~*~*

After brushing all the knots out of my hair, didn't even feel like blow-drying it, I stood by the patio doors awkwardly, deciding whether or not I actually wanted to interact with other humans. Sighing, I slid the doors open, stepping outside into the night. It was humid, but a lot cooler than it was when the sun was out. Jaime, one of Vic's friend, was telling a story about how a relative got arrested for public indecency. I grabbed a chair and drug it over to sit beside Vic, who was the only person I felt comfortable talking to besides Anna. A ginger named Matty, or at least that's what Jaime called him, and a guy with long black hair that resembled coconut head from that show Ned's Declassified whatever.

"Glad to see you decided not to be a hermit." He whispered, leaning over in my direction. I elbowed him in the arm.

I noticed Anna watching Jaime with such admiration in her eyes that I was actually surprised he wasn't aware of her giving him bedroom eyes. I felt like I was invading her privacy by observing her closely. She was a pretty secretive person when it came to her love life (or her lack thereof) so to know that there was someone she actually liked was pretty amazing. At some point the conversation shifted from doing jail time to children (well) and someone else took reigns of the conversation.

"Who's that?" I asked, resting my head against Vic's (bony) shoulder.

"That's Kellin."

I nodded, my mouth forming an 'o' shape.

He fell into some story about how he accidentally got pee all over himself then somehow ended up talking about his wife for like an hour. It was literally the most boring story I had ever heard and I cared less and less with each second that past. He honestly kept saying 'my wife' and it felt like he thought that was the equivalent of name dropping some celebrity. If I was wearing shoes I would've thrown one at him by now.

"Does he always talk about his wife like that?" I asked under my breath.

Vic raised his eyebrow at me, "Like what?"

"Like everyone actually cares?"

Vic made a sound that felt like it could be a combination of a yelp and a snort. Everybody turned their heads to look at us, curious expressions on their faces. I looked away, biting down on the inside of my cheek to keep laughing. As expected, Kellin didn't waste any time in bringing the attention back to him so he could finish his snooze fest. "I'm not drunk enough for this," I sighed into Vic's hair. He nudged a can of Tecate, gross, into my lap. But I accepted it anyways and downed it in three gulps. I crushed the can tossed it back at him before getting up to grab another beer out of the cooler. I smacked my tongue in my mouth, grimacing at the after taste. Tecate was disgusting, I had no idea why anyone subjected themselves to that form of liquid torture. Inside the cooler there were several types of beer, luckily, I grabbed the first Corona and walked over to the patio table eyeing its contents. There was a plate of lemon and lime slices, I snatched up the first piece of lemon I saw and took it back with me to my seat. "Open this, please." I asked Vic, a small pout on my lips.

He rolled his eyes playfully and took the beer from me, twisting the cap off easily. I stuck my tongue out at him, "show off."

"Weakling."

I scoffed in disapproval, "Take that back. If I lived back in the 1800's I would've been a bloodthirsty queen who would've behead my husband for standing in my way. I'm ruthless."

"You're also vertically challenged."

I grinned honey-slow. "Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?"

He gave me a look that told me everything I needed to know. I won this round, obviously. Taking the Corona from his grasp I shoved the piece of lemon down the bottles neck, taking a swig immediately after. Anna floated by like the angel she was, "if you get drunk I'll kill you." She said through clenched teeth. I glared at the back of her head once she sat back down, like a lady might I add, right beside Jaime. It was heartwarming and nauseating all at once.

I cleared my throat like an asshole interrupting whoever was talking, I had no idea at this point. "So hey, let's play truth or dare," I practically screamed getting out of my seat. "Anna you're first." I said shaking my index finger. "Who do you like?" I asked.

She whipped her head around and narrowed her eyes at me. I scratched at the back of my neck, it probably wasn't a good idea to put her on the spot. After all, she was being kind enough to let my annoying ass crash on her couch. "Never mind, you can all return to your normal programming." I said with a bow.

I tossed my hair back, sipping cautiously from my beer as Kellin took the 'stage' again. Who invited him, anyways? Was it Anna? Because if it was I was definitely starting to question her character judgement.

"I'm going to kill myself this is so boring. Is this what adults do?"

"You're being over dramatic." Vic replied, shrugging one shoulder loosely.

"So."

"Most would say you have a..." He paused, "flair for the dramatics." Everyone started laughing. Weirdly. I took turns staring at them all. Either I was really dumb because the joke went over my head or I wasn't meant to laugh at it.

"I don't get it."

I adore this so far! The thought to detail, such as the relatibility of Sydney's character and her storyline, make the story much more interesting and enjoyable, a quality not always present in online stories. As a result, I am so excited to see how the summary you gave will tie into the story, and I wholly intend to stick around and find out. You have a real piece of art here; can't wait to see your further interpretation of it.
