Life was pretty fucking great.

Kay and I were approaching our one year which was pretty cool; Jaime had started dating Kay’s cousin. He liked her and she wasn’t tired of him yet so it worked. Tony and Gabi were your typical couple experiencing puppy love. Even Vic and Kellin were in better moods. Kell wasn’t sad anymore and Vic had stopped hanging out with Dani, meaning that he had finally admitted his feelings to himself. Thank God.

The only downside to all of this was that classes had started up again. I was currently experiencing that pitfall as I was sitting on the outdoor patio of the student center, my nose buried in my astronomy textbook with my headphones in. Yes, I read.

A tap on my shoulder took me out of my state of learning about moon phases. I took an earbud out as I turned my head to greet my interrupter.

“Hey Mike,” she said with a smile. I gave a small smile in return.

“What’s up?” I asked. She just shrugged.

“I’ve been looking for your brother all day but I haven’t found him. What’s his schedule like?”

“Uh, I think he has a class right now but he should be getting out soon. He texted me saying he was gonna be here for lunch in a little bit.” She nodded.

“Mind if I wait with you?”

Yes.

I wish I had said that out loud but the nice guy in me gestured to an open seat that she planted herself in. We spent about ten minutes in complete silence. It was hella fucking awkward. I knew I should’ve said something to her but we were never all that close. I silently prayed for something, anything to break the uncomfortable tension between us.

As if it were planned, Jaime, Kellin, and Vic came walking up. They were laughing at something Jaime had said most likely. I waved at the three of them; Vic smiled in response. That smile quickly faded when he saw the other person at the table. Kellin noticed the change in Vic’s demeanor because he looked at the seat and frowned.

“What’s up, Mike?” my brother asked.

“She said she was looking for you,” was all I said. Vic gave me a look but didn’t say anything else on the subject. Kellin didn’t take his eyes off of her. Jaime shifted uncomfortably and scratched the back of his neck.

“I’m gonna get something to eat,” he said.

“I’ll go with you,” I said desperately and speed walked to catch up with him. Thinking back I probably shouldn’t have left the three of them alone.

“Shit, what’s going on with those three?” Jaime asked as we stood in line at Chick-Fli-A.

“Well I know why Kell’s pissed but I didn’t know Vic and Dani ended on such bad terms.”

He made a face. “What are you talking about?”

“Vic and Dani broke up.”

“They were dating?” Seriously? I shook my head.

“Yes Jaime, they were dating for like five months. You really didn’t figure that out?”

“In my defense I don’t pay attention to your brother’s love life unless there’s money involved.” I laughed. “Seriously, since when was Vic into chicks?” I shrugged.

“He was most likely using her to feel something after Kellin. That break up hit him hard.” He nodded. We were all there to see Vic hit rock bottom.

“Well that clears all of that up.”

“Seriously though Jaime, how did you not know? She was with us all the time.”

“Hey, Vic can have platonic friends.” I laughed and paid for my food. We walked back out of the student center with our bags in hand. The sight we saw when we returned was enough to make us lose our appetites.

Kay had shown up from somewhere and was in a shouting match with Danielle. Over what? I have no idea. Vic was actually holding her back and Kellin was just standing there with rage in his eyes. The little redhead was saying shit that just made the three of them madder.

“You’d better go,” Vic said in an eerily calm voice.

“This isn’t over,” Dani spat before she stormed past Jaime and me. I rushed over to my girlfriend and examined her for bruises.

“Mike she didn’t touch me.”

“I don’t know that.”

“Well I just told you.”

“She didn’t touch her Mike,” Kellin said. I dropped my hands from Kay’s face and looked around.

“Well then what the fuck happened?”

“She’s just a bitch, leave it at that.” I looked at Vic with worry. I knew he was mad but his tone of voice said otherwise. It was so scary. I don’t remember a time when he was ever this calm.

“Can we get out of here?” Kaylee asked. “I’m not very hungry anymore.”

“Sure babe.” We picked up our things and headed back to my brother’s apartment. My mind was racing the whole way back. What the fuck happened back there? I couldn’t ask anyone since it seemed like they didn’t wanna talk about it. It must’ve been pretty bad since Kay stayed quiet the entire ride back to Vic’s place. She cuddled up against me on the couch when we got there. I tried feeding her my fries while her face was buried in my chest. It got a laugh out of her so I think I cheered her up.

Still though, I couldn’t help but wonder what had happened while Jaime and I were gone. I’d never seen Kay so worked up before so it must’ve been bad. Did Dani say something about her? About me? Kellin?

I heard a sigh from below me which caused me to look down. Kaylee looked up at me with a faint smile. I returned it and kissed her forehead. Whatever happened wasn’t important. Kay needed comforting and that was what I was gonna do. I pulled her closer to me and turned on the TV. I told her we would sit and watch some stupid show until we had to go to class, and that’s exactly what we did.

She looked at me with a mixture of anger, disgust, and a bit of humor. Honestly she looked crazy but of course I didn’t say anything.

Kellin stood next to me with anger etched onto his face. I knew he didn’t like the fact that Dani and I dated but shit, he looked like he was gonna kill her if she came any closer to me. I wanted to hold his hand and try to calm him down but of course I couldn’t. I just stood there and watched the two of them.

“Did you want something?” I finally asked. She softened her gaze only slightly before she spoke.

“I wanted to talk.”

“About what?” Kellin jumped in.

“Nothing that concerns you.”

“You wanna bet? If you have something to say to Vic then you can say it in front of me.”

“Why should I? It’s not like you two are together.”

“Dani, stop,” I interjected. She just put a hand up and continued.

“What? You guys aren’t together.” I looked at her curiously. “Oh, you didn’t think I knew you were gay? Yeah, I did. It wasn’t really a secret.”

“Why does this fucking matter?” Kellin asked.

“Oh, I just wanted you to know that I know you two had a thing going on. Is that why you guys stopped talking midway through last semester? What Vic, was Kellin bad in bed?” Kellin gritted his teeth and clenched his fist.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about, bitch,” Kellin spat.

“Oh that’s right, you broke up with Vic. Something about him not loving you.”

“Dani stop,” I warned. The look on Kellin’s face was frightening; I knew he would go postal if she continued. And of course she did.

“You wanna know what happened after that night? Vic drank and partied until one night he found me. I fixed him. You wanted him to love you so badly but he didn’t. I guess that’s why we got together. See, I gave him what you couldn’t. I made him happy. You ever notice how much happier he was with me than he was with you? Yeah, I did that. Me and only me.”

Kellin looked like he was gonna explode. I rubbed his arm subconsciously to try to relax him. I was so caught up in keeping Kellin from attacking Dani that I hadn’t noticed that Kay had stepped in.

“You need to fucking leave.”

“Oh, do you want a taste too? See your little friend?” Kay looked at Kell. “I helped him realize how insignificant he was to Vic, and I can do the same to you.”

“Just try me, bitch.”

“Alright,” she said with a smirk. ”I know about you and Mike.”

“That we’re dating? Wow, shocker.”

Dani chuckled. “No, that before he asked you out he only wanted to get in your pants. You were meant to be a one-night stand. How does that make you feel?” I saw Kaylee clench her fist. “Your precious little boyfriend only wanted you for your body; probably still does. I’m assuming you two haven’t slept together?”

Kay didn’t answer.

“Well there you go,” Dani continued, “he’s just waiting for the moment when you finally give it up. After he gets what he wants he’ll be gone and you’ll be left feeling as stupid as you look. I’ve gotta say, I don’t know that many guys who’d stick around for a quick fuck.”

That’s when Kay lost it. She charged at Danielle with fists cocked. Luckily I was quick enough to grab her before she got close enough to make contact.

“Let me go Vic!” she screamed. “This bitch deserves it!”

“It’s not worth it Kay.” She struggled in my arms some more before calming down. She still shot daggers at Dani with her eyes. Danielle didn’t seem the least bit fazed.

“You’d better go,” I said. She just shrugged, said her last words, and walked away.

“You should’ve let me hit her. Why didn’t you let me hit her?”

“We’ve gone over this: you could’ve gotten expelled.”

“I don’t give a fuck!” I ran a hand over my face. Kellin and I were in my bedroom trying to get over the fact that Dani had started some shit earlier. Kellin was fuming throughout the remainder of our classes. Lucky for us we sat in the back so our professors never really noticed us not paying attention. Good thing too because I needed to rub my hand up and down Kell’s thigh to keep him in his seat.

Now however he was pacing on my floor. I guess all that pent up anger made him restless. Can’t say I blamed him.

“She had no right to say those things to Kay. No fucking right.”

“You’re right.”

“And what about me? That bitch needs to get her ass kicked, seriously.”

“Kell, I’m not gonna risk losing you.” He stopped moving.

“You think she’s gonna beat me?”

“I mean if you get expelled. We’d never see each other.” His expression softened.

“Fine, then I guess I won’t fight her.” He sat next to me on the bed and held my hand. “But if she starts some more shit I’m gonna finish it.”

‘Kell, no.”

“And why not?” he said angrily. “Why are you trying to protect her? She insulted your boyfriend, your friend, and your brother. Why the fuck are you on her side?”

“I’m not on anyone’s side, I just don’t thinking fighting her is the best way to handle this.”

“It’ll shut her up, that’s for sure. Can’t talk shit if your lip’s busted.” I looked at Kell worriedly. I didn’t like this side of him.

“I get that you’re mad but Kellin, please, don’t do anything stupid. I can’t spend the rest of my time here without you. I love you too much.”

He sighed. “I love you too.” I smiled.

“So you’ll leave it alone?”

“Yeah, I guess I have no choice,” he said in defeat. I ran my thumb across the back of his hand. “You really love using the L-word against me, huh?”

“If it gets you to do what I want then I’ll use it as much as I have to.” He shoved me playfully.

“Jerk.”

“Bitch.”

He rested his head on my shoulder and I wrapped an arm around his waist. I kissed his forehead before putting my head on his. I knew that Kellin wasn’t okay, that he was faking it for my sake. Hell, I was faking it too. I was pissed at Dani for all the shit she said. None of it was true; I knew she just did it to get under my skin. Who knew she was that upset about the break up?

She would get over this, right? She would leave us alone once she got over me, right? I hoped so. I didn’t need Kellin to go full out and I didn’t need Kay and Mike to break up over some shit that wasn’t true. I knew Mike really cared for Kaylee but if Kay took what Dani said to heart then their relationship would be over as quickly as it started.

As for what she said to Kell it was a lie. Yes I was happy with Dani but it wasn’t real happiness. I guess I was just happy to have something to take my mind off of my heartbreak, but as soon as I saw Kellin again all those feelings came back. To be honest I’m not sure they ever left. I guess I was just hiding them under the surface until I knew that Kell and I had a chance again.

I looked at my boyfriend who was now drawing little circles on my outer thigh with his finger. He was finally calm enough to sit still. I kissed his temple which caused a small smile to creep onto his beautiful face.

Yeah, Dani was crazy. I loved Kellin; I always did. My love for him only grew day by day. I wouldn’t give him up for anything. My crazy ex-girlfriend could say whatever the hell she wanted, I knew what was real.

Little did I know that Dani saying things would be the least of my problems.

He had watched them all fight; he couldn’t help but smile. That’s what they deserved. They needed to feel miserable. They needed the heartbreak. They needed all the pain similar to the kind he had received.

He wasn’t bitter about it all; he just wanted them to suffer. It didn’t have to come to this but hey, that’s what they get. If things had gone according to plan then none of this would have to happen. Oh well, everything happens for a reason.

He felt proud that he was the reason for this new development. His plan was working perfectly, and so was his little plaything. She wanted what he wanted so why not team up? Two is better than one.

They continued to yell and his happiness continued to grow. Everything was going according to plan.

He was currently sitting alone in his room awaiting a text from his pawn. She was supposed to be working on the second part of his grand scheme. If she did it correctly there wouldn’t be much left to put into fruition.

It’s done

He sighed contently with a pleased expression on his face. Yes, it was going to work. There wasn’t much left.

He would soon get what he wanted.

He thought back to the night that he let it all slip away. He should’ve fought for it but instead he backed down. He still got angry on occasion. He wasn’t one to back down.

He closed his eyes and pictured his prize. Yes, it would be worth it in the end. He would get what he truly wanted, what he truly deserved. And it would be his and only his.

You’re still gonna help me out right?

He rolled his eyes but chuckled. She was so desperate. She wanted her end of the plan, but little did she know that she wouldn’t be able to have it.

Oops.

Of course I will

He couldn’t help but laugh out loud as he sent the message. He took a sip of his whiskey and sat back in his chair. Oh that sweet girl, wanting something she could never have. She’d learn soon though.

Bitches should know they should never trust the devil.
