He Collided With The Sky

Closing The Door

The three remaining members of Pierce The Veil reunited at the Fuentes residence for the first time in a long time. “Well, we should start” Tony spoke up, pain lacing his voice. They made there way to the bandroom, all having to take a deep breath at the door. Mike pushed the creaky door open and they all entered standing in the middle of the room taking the reality in. The bandroom had been set-up for Ten years and now it will be packed into boxes and sent to a basement somewhere, most likely to be slowly forgotten. The mere thought brought Mike to his knees falling into loud sobs. “WHY” he screamed to the sky. Tony and Jaime, who he considered brothers sat with Mike, silent tears rolling down their faces. “Why did he leave us, the band, the fans.. everyone” Mike questioned his dead brother who he cried for every night. They never got there closure, apart from the funeral as far as they were concerned, Vic never left them anything. A note, A message.. Nothing was found, all that was left was his body to be found.
It took a while but they soon collected themselves and they set on the job of them, the quicker they got it done. The quicker they could move on properly and they decided to do this properly.
Tony and Jaime started with all the guitars. They cleaned them up, removed the strings and wrapped them in towels and bubblewrap before placing them gently into the big boxes that the Fuentes parents had provided. They began on Vic’s Black and White striped guitar, Mike watched on knowing how much that guitar meant to his brother, It had been around the world, to a thousand cities. Tony was about to place into the box ontop of his own. “Stop” he said causing everyone to look at him. “Not that one, I want that one with me” he said reaching for the guitar. Tony gave a sad smle before handing it over to him. Mike took it holding it like it would shatter under his grip.
They soon packed away all the instruments, taping up the boxes and labelling them. They slowly took down all the fanart, the awards, the memorbillia from the wall, gently packing it all in, careful not to even slightly damage anything. They re-lived old memories and tours and proud moments as they did so, soon the bandroom was bare and empty. It resembled the garage the room once was prior the ten years. They sat on the floor around the boxes. “You know I hate my job at the record label” Jaime slipped out. “I’m thinking about quitting, coming home to San Diego, maybe trying a new career you know” he said looking down at the carpet. The guys looked at Jaime. Never in a million years would they have thought jaime would quit the Music industry all together. “Vic wouldn’t have wanted that for you, to just leave. he wouldv’e said, you’re to talkented to give it up, your jaime Preciado for gods sake” Mike said chuckling slightly. Tony smiled. “He’s right, he probably wouldv’e gently slapped you round the back of the head for saying that” Tony added.”I know” Jaime admitted. “What about you Mike, what are you’re plans” Tony asked placing a hand on his back. “You know I really don’t have any, just whiskey everynight” he joked lightly. “Mike, you need to think of something to do with yourself, maybe help Tony out in the music shop, teach kids Drums or something” Jaime offered his advice. Mike shrugged. “I’m not sure I can get on a drumkit again” he admitted and everyone went silent taking in the moment for a while. l“I want to do one more thing before we close the door on Pierce The Veil” Jaime said standing up. He disaperared out of the room for a few minutes returning with a few Sharpies. He handed them to his best friends. Jaime stood up walking over to the wall of the room writing in his neatest writing he could muster wrote the following as the the two other boys watched catching on to what he was doing.

Pierce The Veil
December 2006 - August 2016
Jaime Tony Mike and Vic.

“Here’s to Pierce The Veil and here’s to Vic” The guys hugged it out. They quietly removed the boxes and leftovers placing them into the front room with the rest of the Fuentes things. Pierce The veil’s door was closed.

. . .

The guys were now sitting in Mike’s room. “There’s something in this guitar”. Mike had been holding and studying Vic’s guitar for the past few minutes. “What” Tony said as Mike pointed. “Do you see the paper or something sticking out from under the scratch plate” he said trying to pull it out, He soon got it out from under it. Jaime looked at the guard. “It’s loose, I feel like Vic put that paper under there, and he wanted it there” he said. It was beginning to yellow from sitting in the small space Vic had jammed it. Mike looked up at his best friends unfolding it with care. He fell into a state of shock “I.. I f-found his s-suici-de n-note” Mike stuttered dropping the paper and once again falling apart being reminded of that day.

This story makes me cry a river every time I read it! I mean just the fact that he struggled with depression makes me wonder what if Vic did commit suicide? What would the band do? And I think you hit it right on the tip. Good start keep going.
