Hey There, Stranger

Chapter 2: Home Sweet Home

Back home, my apartment, wasn’t the most stylish of places. I shared my two bedroom apartment with my roommate, and childhood friend, Everly.

Putting it nicely, Everly isn’t the brightest spark. Don’t get me wrong, she’s not exactly stupid, she’s currently studying English Lit at Manchester Met and she seems to be passing through the course with flying colours. She’s more of the kind to have incredibly frequent blonde moments. In fact, she lives her life through blonde moments. Very ditsy girl. Although, she’s also very lovable. Mind you, she doesn’t look deeper than a puddle which I can confirm causes plenty of frustration on my side and an overwhelming amount of confusion on hers. But we’ve been through thick and thin, grew up together here in Manchester, England and I wouldn’t trade her for the world.

“Yo, you’re back!” Everly greeted me at the door.
“Yo, yes the housekeeper is home.” I sighed, scrunching my nose up at our mess of a living room.
“Take that look off your face, I’ll tidy.”
“Pretty sure you said that yesterday.”
“So?” She raised her eyebrow, challenging me.
“And the day before.”
“Well-
“And the day before that.” I cut her off, smirking at my victory.
“I’m so glad you’re home.” She faked a cheesy grin.
“Me too.” I stuck my finger up at her before crossing over to my room.
I made a point of slamming my door behind me, laughing to myself as I heard Everly groan and mutter something about noise.

My room is made up of more style than the rest of the apartment. My bed is neatly presented with more cushions than I can count and, what most call, eccentric bedding. I, myself, wouldn’t call it eccentric, I just enjoy bold colours and abstract patterns. My argument is that it gives my room character. After that, people will usually laugh it off and note me down as the crazy friend. Stuffed toys, mainly from my childhood, decorate my drawers and shelves along with books, masses of CDs, and in the corner is a building stack of ‘Rock Bulletin’ magazines that I began collecting ever since I started publishing my pages in the magazine.
Exhausted, I threw myself down onto my bed and stared up at the ceiling. Laughing softly to myself, I looked at the glow in the dark stars that me and Everly had stuck on my ceiling the first night we moved in.

Quickly, I checked the time. 17:47. I threw my head back down onto my many cushions and rested my eyes for a few minutes. A few minutes soon turned into an hour. Unexpectedly I jumped awake as my phone began to vibrate. Angrily, I grabbed my phone to see a text from Jeremy.

‘I know you’re sleeping right now, get your lazy arse up, you got an hour. Be ready!’

I sighed yet smiled to myself, he knew me well. Groggily, I got myself up and into the living room where I found Everly sprawled out on the sofa watching some crappy rom com.
“Feel up to coming out with me, Jeremy and some people from work?”
“Totally!” Everly feigned excitement.
“Lucky bitch.” I muttered.
Everly giggled and returned her attention to the movie.
“Guess I better go and get ready then.” I sighed dramatically.
“Guess you better had.” Everly smirked.
