Misadventures

Bedless

Apparently my brother and I are punk ass bitches.

Let me explain.

It’s been about six weeks since the block party. That night our band went out with Kellin’s and Kay, Brandon, and his girlfriend. We had a good time and when we got back on campus Vic said he wanted our band to continue the party. I was cool with it so the four of us went back to my and Tony’s dorm so we wouldn’t disturb Kell and Brandon. We got pretty wasted and when Vic’s wasted he starts saying whatever the fuck is on his mind.

“I don’t think I know what to do,” Vic slurred as he took another shot of Jack.

“What the fuck do you mean bro?”

“I think Kellin’s in love with me.”

“Oh shit, waddup!” Jaime yelled. Tony attempted to throw a pillow at him his hand-eye coordination was hella off. That pillow didn’t make it past his toes.

“Tone what the fuck?” I asked with a laugh.

“I’m hella drunk, shut up.”

“Can we go back to my problem?” We looked at him.

“What the fuck’s the problem?” Tony asked.

“Kellin’s in love with me. Didn’t you listen to the last song he sang?”

“Shit, everyone on and off campus heard it. I remember so many people were talking about it.” Vic looked at me.

“Really?”

“For real. Like real shit dude,” Jaime added sloppily.

“I heard some girls asking who he was talking about.” I nodded at Tony’s comment.

“What’s the problem though?”

Vic took another shot and then three more after that one before answering my question. “I’m not sure.”

“What the fuck?! You waited that long to say that?!” Tony tried to throw another pillow at Jaime to quiet him down but missed again.

“Seriously Tone, I’m gonna take those away from you.” He flipped me off and took another shot.“What’s up bro?”

Vic sighed. “I don’t fucking know.”

“Do you not love him back?” He shook his head at Tony.

“I think I do.”

“Then what’s the fucking problem?!” Jaime yelled.

“I don’t know how to go about it.” He took yet another shot and sat back. We all waited for him to continue. “I’ve never been in love before. What am I supposed to do? Do I just tell him? Do I get him something?” Jaime laughed.

“Just fucking tell him you little punk.” Vic shoved him.

“Okay but we just started dating. This will change shit and I’m not ready for that.” I looked at him through my clouded eyes.

“What shit?”

“Our whole dynamic. We’ll have to be together all the time, we can’t date other people. I’m saying, admitting that I love him will change everything.” The next thing I knew a pillow had collided with Vic’s face. “What the fuck Jaime!”

“I’m sorry,” he said in between laughs, “but you’re fucking stupid. What do you mean you can’t date other people? You’re in a fucking relationship you short shit.”

“I’m gonna have to agree with the short shit part,” I added. He shot me a look.

“I shouldn’t have said anything to you guys.”

“Now hold on,” Tony spoke, “Jaime’s right, you’re in a relationship. You’re not supposed to be dating anyone else anyway.”

“I know that.” He took another drink.

“Then what do you want?” I asked.

“I want Kellin but I don’t want this to change.”

“What the fuck do you think’s gonna happen? What, do you think you’ll move to Key West and adopt ten children and have like thirty cats?”

“No Jaime, you idiot.”

“Then what!”

“I just think things are gonna change.”

“But how?!” the three of us asked at the same time.

“You guys remember Cara, right?” We nodded. Cara was the last girl Vic ever dated. She was mad cool but Vic wasn’t really feeling her, obviously.

“What about her though?” Vic took one more drink before answering Tony’s question. He really needed to ease up.

“Well she told me that she was falling in love with me about three months into our relationship. I was cool with it but I told her that I didn’t know if I loved her back at that moment. She said it was cool and I thought that was that. Then she kept saying it to me and eventually I had to say it back. Shit changed. She wouldn’t leave me alone. I had to say it to her every night if we talked before bed and every morning when we saw each other. I couldn’t take it. I just wanted to have fun with her but it got so serious so fast. I didn’t really love her and her making me say it every fucking day just pissed me off. I couldn’t get away from it or her. Anyway, you guys know the rest.”

We did. Vic and Cara had a huge fight. He admitted all of that to her and they ended up cussing each other out before she stormed out and he threw her things out of the house. It took months for him to finally get all her shit out.

“And you’re afraid that Kellin will be the same way.” Vic nodded slowly.

“I really like Kellin but shit, he was my best friend before we got to where we are now. I don’t wanna lose him.”

Fast forward to now and Vic still has those feelings. He and Kellin haven’t said anything to each other but it’s so obvious that Kell wants to tell Vic how he feels. The sad part is that Kellin is pretty shy and wanted Vic to say it first. That wasn’t gonna happen anytime soon.

As for me being a punk ass bitch, I was going through the same situation. I was falling in love with Kay and didn’t know how to tell her. I wasn’t scared or anything, I just didn’t want my delivery to be rejected. Shit, guess being bitches is a sibling affair.

I stretched my legs out on the floor in an attempt to get comfortable.

“Stop moving.” I rolled my eyes.

“A please would be nice. I’m letting you do this shit.” She hit me on the top of the head.

“Because you like me enough.” She was right. I was sitting in Kay’s apartment with Gabi. The little chick said she wanted to do my hair or something. All I remember is that she wanted to see all that was under the hat and since I needed to remain on Kay’s good side I said fuck it. Shouldn’t have done that.

“Don’t yank it though,” I cried as she got the comb through it.

“I’m not but dude, hair maintenance is key.” I rolled my eyes.

“You’re lucky I’m letting you do this.”

“Has no one but a barber touched your head?”

“I let Vic touch it but not often. We used to have a bet to see how long I could get it.”

“How long did it get?”

“Past my shoulders, almost at my armpit.” She whistled.

“That’s crazy.”

“Yeah but that was just because I used to hate getting my hair cut. Vic used to too so when we turned thirteen Mom said we could decide on when to get it cut and how long. Vic never wanted his hair longer than it is now so it was easy for him. I still hated haircuts so I didn’t go for like a year and a half.” Gabi giggled.

“That’s kinda cute. You should tell Kaylee that story; she’ll love it.” I cringed a little at the word. “What?”

“Nothing,” I said as I shook my head. She made a noise but didn’t say anything else. Surprising right?

We got done about twenty minutes later after fighting her off the idea that she had to style my hair. I got off the floor and stretched. “So do you and my sister have any plans for tonight?” I looked at her as she was putting the combs and brushes away. She was referring to the fact that today made three months that Kay and I had been dating. We had agreed that we weren’t gonna celebrate any monthly milestones so I just shook my head.

“You’re not even gonna go to dinner?” I shrugged.

“Not sure. I could ask her but finals are in two weeks and you know how your sister is.” Gabi rolled her eyes. Kay was the type of person not to take her grades lightly. She was a straight A student and studied her ass off to get those grades. With finals being two weeks away she wouldn’t want to do anything besides study.

“That’s too bad Mikey. Maybe you guys could do something over the break. Oh, please do that!” I laughed at her excitement.

“Why should we?”

“Because then we could hang out! And maybe you could bring the whole band along?” I scoffed. I knew she only asked so she could see Jaime and Tony. No matter what Kay told her she couldn’t resist them. It was gross.

“I don’t know. Ask your sister.” She shut up and continued to clean.

I thought about Gabi’s proposal. Yes I would love to hang out with everyone during the break. None of us had enough money to fly back to San Diego for more than a week so our plan was to go back home right after finals and leave Christmas night. We would spend the remaining four weeks with a family friend in Dallas.

“Sure lil’ chick, why not. I’ll have to talk to the guys but we’re not gonna be doing anything.” She squealed in response.

“Maybe you can get Kellin to come too.”

“Talk to Vic about that.”

Kaylee walked in then and dropped her books on the table. “What’s up guys?”

“Nothing much. I fixed your boyfriend’s hair.” She laughed and took off my hat, wanting to see Gabi’s work.

“Looks pretty good.” I shrugged and kissed her.

“Thanks I guess. You look good too.” She blushed which made me grab her ass. Gabi must’ve noticed because she made gagging noises.

“You guys make me sick. And you,” she said, pointing at Kay, “you still owe me money.”

***

I closed my eyes as the plane rolled into the terminal. The boys and I had just spent a great week at home with our families and got some pretty cool presents. Mostly clothes and money but hey, we’re college kids.

We stepped out the gate and I immediately turned my phone back on. I had promised Kellin that I would call him as soon as I was back in Dallas. Because plane tickets back to his home state were hella expensive he had no choice but to spend the break in Kay’s apartment. She was happy to let him stay and have someone living with her for a little bit. Apparently he even got to spend Christmas with her and her family.

I was still a little freaked out about the whole “love” thing. I mean, being apart from Kellin sucked but I wasn’t sure if it was because I loved him or because I knew he was stuck in this state when he didn’t want to be. All I knew is that I wanted to be with him. A couple times during the week I wondered what my parents would think about him. Is that love? I’m not sure but it was weird and a little scary to think about.

Did you get my present?

I laughed at the text as I put my phone back in my pocket. Yeah I missed Kell but I wasn’t going to answer until the time was right. Don’t worry, I had a plan.

The four of us walked out of the airport and stood on the curb waiting for Kaylee to pick us up.

“Three hours on a plane is too damn long,” Jaime complained. Tony chuckled.

“You’re just upset because you couldn’t move around.”

“Hell yeah! I need to stretch my legs.”

“You?” Mike interjected. “Please, let the ones with legs have the opportunity to stretch them.” I shot him a look.

“Is that a short joke?”

“Oh so you were able to tell from down there?” I shoved him.

“You may be bigger than me but I can still get gnarly on you little brother.”

“Bring it on, short shit.” We threw our bags on the ground and put our fists up at the same time before we pranced around each other. Yes we were making a scene but it was too cold for us to stop moving. Honestly, going back and forth between Cali and Texas in December was brutal on the body. You were warm in one state then a Popsicle in the other.

Mike and I shuffled around each other, throwing fake punches in between insults. Jaime and Tony started egging us on while people just looked at us like we were crazy.

“Hey, get in losers it’s too cold out here!” Mike stopped and turned in the direction of the voice with a smile. That gave me the perfect opportunity to punch him in the arm.

“Ow! You little shit!”

“That’s short shit to you,” I spat as I picked my bag off the ground. Jaime laughed.

“It’s okay champ, shake it off,” Tony said to Mike as he rubbed his shoulders. We all laughed as we made our way to Kaylee’s car.

“My brother’s a jerk,” Mike complained to Kay as he sat in the front seat. She squeezed his hand and chuckled.

“Well, you know, little man syndrome and all.” I scrunched up my face.

“You’re little too Kay so don’t even.” She laughed as she pulled out of the spot.

After about forty-five minutes I decided it would be a good time to call Kellin and put my plan in action. I wiggled around in an effort to get my phone out of my pocket without making “advances” at Jaime or Tony since I was sitting in between them. I got to it and unlocked it, going straight to Kellin’s name and hitting the call button.

“Hello?” he answered kind of tiredly. I chuckled.

“Hey sleeping beauty. How are you?”

“Hey! I’m okay.”

“Were you asleep?”

“No, I was making dinner. Kay went out so I thought I’d do something nice for her as an appreciation for letting me stay here.” I smiled. My considerate boyfriend.

“That’s really sweet Kells. So do you know where Kay went?"

“No. I think she said she was gonna go home for a little while before going to pick you up. Are you guys at the airport already?”

“No we’re still in San Diego,” I lied. Tony shot me a look but I put my hand up. “There’s a threat of a storm in Dallas so we’re delayed a little bit. We should be back at around 10, maybe later.” I heard him sigh over the line.

“Alright I guess. I should text Kay then and tell her about dinner.”

“You gonna be okay Kell?”

“Yeah. I just miss you is all.”

“I miss you too Kell.”

“You’ve got to tell me about your family and how Christmas was. And did you like my present?” I chuckled.

“Of course I’ll tell you about Christmas.” As I spoke Kaylee pulled into a parking spot. “I’m gonna have to do that later though; we’re about to take off.”

“Oh,” he said sadly, “alright. Guess I’ll see you in a few hours.” We had just climbed the stairs to Kay’s place when he said that.

“I guess,” I said as I pushed Kaylee out of the way and knocked on her door.

“Coming!” I heard him call. “There’s someone at the door but yeah, I guess I’ll see you when you get here.” He opened the door and I smiled.

“I’m here.” The next thing I knew I was in his embrace. The boys and Kay laughed as Kellin rocked me back and forth.

“So the storm was a lie?” he asked after he got tired and let me go.

“Yeah,” I said as I scratched the back of my neck. “Sorry for lying to you. I wanted to surprise you.”

“Are you kidding? I’m not mad at all! I missed you too much to be upset about this.” I beamed.

“I missed you too.”

“And I miss warmth,” Mike said. “Can we go inside now?”

“Please. For the love of all that is good and holy. My nuts are about to fall off.” We laughed at Tony’s random comment and went inside.
