Going Back To the Past

Bitting the Bullet

I had left Mark's house and headed home. I thought about stopping at the hospital to see Alex but decided not to. I was supposed to be working and that would complicate things. I simply went home.
When I got there I went into the living room where I had a stereo system and put the Pierce the veil CD in. I wanted to see what the boys had become. To my surprise, they actually were really good. It was a strange feeling hearing Vic's voice playing in my apartment. After a few tracks I went to lay down on my couch I ended up falling asleep.

After waking up around 8 in the morning. I took a shower. In the Shower I did my best thinking. I had planned to get to the bottom of the song issue. The first step was calling home. This would be easier said than done. I hadn't talked to my mom in a while. After leaving Vic in San Francisco I called home to tell everyone that I was okay and that I was moving to Seattle. Even then I could tell my mother had changed.
The last time I had seen her in person was my college graduation. She and dad came up to see me get my diploma. since then we would call each other every few months just to check in. Then Birthdays and holiday cards were sent both ways.

"Hey mom'' I said into the phone
"Hello dear, what have you been up to?" Even after everything that happened mom tried her best to make our relationship seem normal.
"Not much I didn't work last night and have a few days off so I thought I would call and see how everyone was doing."
"Everything is fine, your dad and I are getting ready to leave for therapy. So was there anything that you needed?"
I didn't want to come straight out and tell her what I was really calling for so I asked for the first person number that popped into my head."Um, yea do you have Megan's number still?" I asked.
"Yes, honey I will text it to you, Call me sometime, when you're not busy so we and catch up."
I hung up the phone, I've always loved my parents, and I think after I left they forgot that.

A few minutes later a number appeared in my inbox. I had never been so nervous about calling Megan, It's weird to think we once couldn't go an hour without talking. Now it's been months. I bit the bullet and dialed her number.

"Hey is this Megan?" I asked when someone answered the phone
"Yea, Anna is that you?" I heard from the other side
"Anna, What are you doing calling at this time of the morning, I wasn't a morning person in high school and I'm still not."
At first, I got nervous that she was mad but she had a weird sense of humor.
"Sorry meg, I just really wanted to talk to you."
"That's not strange at all.." she said with an awkward laugh at the end.
"How are you doing? How are the kids and Andrew?" Megan had gotten married two years ago and had a set of twins last fall.
"Everything is great, kids are sleeping so mommy is happy," she replied
The stale conversation drug on until I asked how other people were doing, people from high school.
"Oh man, you wouldn't believe.." She trailed on forever about so and so getting married and someone going to jail. This seemed to save the conversation until the topic of Vic came up.
"You know a lot of people changed after high school next to you I think Vic changed the most." she stated.
"I don't think I've changed that much." I tried to focus the conversation on me. I don't think I was quite ready to talk about Vic.
"Anna you picked up your entire life and left with a boy, and was never heard from. That's not the girl everyone thought you were." She went on.
"It was just something I need to do" I tried to justify my reason for leaving.
"I've had always wondered what happen to you and Vic in San Francisco, when he came back he was different, and not in a good way," she asked
"Nothing really. What do you mean different?" I didn't want to show that I actually care but I truly did.
"He stopped talking to people and kept to his music. remember he uses to be out all the time chasing after girls while you sat at home crying over him?"
"Yeah, I lost a lot of sleep over that guy." I said and an unhappy tone

The conversation went on awhile longer, she ended up telling me that Vic and Mick were now on their way of actually making it with their music. She had run into their sister and she told her everything. They were going on tour in a few months. I was really happy for them. Being in a band was something Vic always wanted.

"So have you thought about coming home anytime soon?" she asked
"Not really, should I? I have sometimes saved up from work I could take a vacation." I said

We ended the conversation a bit later. It felt good talk to someone from my past, It made me miss home, now I kind of thinking I should go home for a good need visit.
