Going Back To the Past

There Was Nothing Special

'Vic you need to slow down." I protested
"I'm not even going that fast" Vic was driving down the highway. We were going to Aberdeen to see all of the Nirvana stuff. Really there's just a house and a park. Vic was a fan of Nirvana and Kurt, so I thought it would be cool to drive down and see everything.

After being on the road for about an hour I started to be a headache so we decided it would be best if Vic drove the rest of the way. The drive was actually not too bad because it was a weekday after getting out of the city there wasn't really any traffic. We left my apartment around 8 and got to Aberdeen around 10:30, so we made really good time.

"Do you want to go ahead and go to the park or his house?" Vic asked.
"Let's go to his house then we can get something to eat."

Aberdeen was A quiet town, not much was happening on this muggy morning. It wasn't supposed to rain today but clouds cover the sky, It was dark a dreary. Somehow it was the perfect mood for what we were doing.

Seeing the small yellow house that Kurt used to live in was weird, there was nothing special about the house or even this town. the fact that something so big came out of this house it crazy, but somehow comforting. It took a minute to figure out why it was comforting, I wasn't thinking of this house as Kurt Cobain's but as Vic and Mike. The two house looked so different, but the simply worn down lived in look was the same. After realizing this it made me even more hopeful as to what would come out of the boys.

"Here stand up there I will take your picture," I told Vic he was standing there admiring the house. He was so concentrated on the house that he didn't notice my request.
"Vic"
"What?" he snapped out of it.
"Stand on the walkway so I can take your picture."

He moved so he was standing in front of the house, I took out my phone and Took the picture. In return he took my picture, then we took a selfie than a picture of the both of us. We stayed for a bit longer before leaving. "I saw a pizza place down the street do you want to go there for lunch?" Vic asked, "Yeah that sounds like a good plan." It was still only around 11 but it was late enough for lunch.

It took no time to get to the pizza place, It was small, with only enough seating for 10 or 15 people. A Girl came from behind the counter and seated us in a 2 person booth. She took out drink order and left us to look at the menu. Not knowing how good the pizza was going to be we decided on just splitting a large pepperoni. The girl came back with drinks and took our menus, then returned to the back of the joint.

"This place is pretty cool," I said
"Anna it's just a pizza place, there at least thousand of them in Seattle,"
"No I mean this town. It makes you think what could come out of any town, or any worn down house."
"I guess anything is possible, I mean look at me and Mike, at one time we couldn't play or do anything. Now we are where we are."
"Did you ever think you be tour across the world?"
"When I was little of course, but in high school no. I was afraid I would grow up and have an actual job. Going in at 9 then coming home at 5."
"Having a normal job isn't that bad," I said with a chuckle.
"I know it's not It's just not for me, that's all"
"Imagine coming home to a wife and screaming kids every day."
"Then spending your weekends at the T-ball field. That's that's the life." He said and then smiled at me.
'' I'm going to stop this conversation right here, It is too early to be talking about kids," I said and just laughed
"Oh dear no, Do I look like I could be a father right now."

At this time the girl was coming out of the back without pizza. It looked really good, and sure enough, it was. We ate in silence, that's one thing I love about us. we are so good friends that we can enjoy silence there is nothing awkward about it.

After we ate We got back into the car and went to the park that was dedicated to Kurt. There were a few statues of him and his guitar. My favorite thing was under the bridge. Kurt had spent a lot of time growing up under this bridge. I think at one time he lived under it. Over the years after his death, people had come here to remember him. There was graffiti everywhere. Most of it was either people names and dates, lyrics, or other Kurt or nirvana related stuff.

It was actually dry under the bridge so we sat there for a while. Vic and I talked a bit about Nirvana and then other bands. Vic knew a lot about music, he loved everything about music from listening to playing it. After a while, we ended up sitting in silence again. We were both just thinking. This made for a perfect place to just sit and think about life.

The trip was nice, but we had to head home around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. It was hard to believe that Vic was going to be leaving in a little over a week. After that, I don't know what would happen to us. we had been doing really good since he comes up to stay. I don't want him to ever leave but that's impossible

Before I knew it we were home, Vic had driven the whole way back, I had fallen asleep for a bit. Vic didn't seem to mind when he had to wake me up when we got back into Seattle. When we got into the house we both went straight to bed. the events of today had exhausted us both.
