Misadventures
Prologue
I'm running.
I don't know where to, all I know is that my feet are hitting the ground underneath me with enough force to radiate up the bones in my legs.
And its dark.
I can see absolutely nothing in front of me except for the empty blackness that almost seems hollow.
I start to panic.
As my running continues and still nothing, no sign of life or light appear in front of me, I can feel my heart begin to race as the familiar tingles of an anxiety attack begin to wash over me.
“This cant be real. This isn't real”
My breathing starts coming in short, heavy bursts, and my chest feels like it might implode with the weight that it is feeling.
“Find the light. I must find the light.”
I scream as my foot quickly catches on something on the ground and cracks, leaving me to fall forward in the aftermath of its pain.
My body starts shaking.
All of a sudden the darkness appears to have a weight to it and it begins enclosing me, wrapping its heavy tendrils around my waist and slowly up my chest to my neck.
It starts squeezing.
I'm gasping and frantically tugging at the black mass surrounding me, but its no good. The tendrils wont move or lessen their grip on me.
“I'm going to die.”
My eyelids droop shut as I feel my heart continue to struggle as it tries to remain beating.
It's no use.
I let out the last remaining oxygen in my lungs and lose the feeling in my arms as my ribs are crushed into my now un-moving chest.
My heart unwillingly struggles out one last beat and-

I jolt forward out of bed gasping for air in the cool February night. My thin maroon tank top and black boxer shorts are stuck to my skin with sweat and my chest is heaving up and down as I greedily suck in as much air as my body will allow. My heart still frantically beating, I clutch my sheets in my fists and stare blankly at them in fear.
