Chasing The Night

nine.

“What the hell was that all about?” Jared snapped at his wife, knowing that there was something more going on than first thought. “Why was he such a dick?”

“I. . I don’t know.” Stuttering, Kate had no idea how to explain this all too him. “He’s never been like that before.”

“That’s fucking bullshit, Katelynn!” He yelled at her. “And you fucking know it as well as I do. So just tell me the truth!”

Knowing that this was it, she had to tell Jared about her past with Tony. Where things went from there, she had no idea. “He’s my ex.” She admitted. “From about three years ago, okay?”

“You knowingly went on a five week tour with your ex boyfriend?!” Jared was fuming; he could not believe his wife. “You’re disgusting!”

“Jared, please.” She begged. “I married you for a reason!”

“How could you?!” By this point, Jared was throwing Kate’s things from her bunk in a full on rage. “You’re nothing but a selfish whore!”

“How am I a whore?!” This time, Kate snapped. “I did nothing but follow your orders and do everything you ever wanted!”

“Yet look where we are!” Jared yelled. “You’re fucking him, aren’t you?”

“No, I’m not!” She growled. How could he even think this low of her? After everything she had ever done with him. After she married him.

Jared's rage, one again, got the best of him and he lunged straight for his wife. His full weight landing straight on top of her. Luckily for Kate, Mitch and Jesse had just entered the bus for lunch. Mitch dived straight at Jared, pulling him off his best friend. “Get the fuck off our bus before I call security.”

Jared pulled himself up, dusted himself off and with what little dignity he had left and stormed off the bus. Kate was left in a sobbing mess on the floor once her husband had walked out the door, suddenly feeling every emotion take over her. All Mitch could do was pull his best friend into him, offering what little comfort he could.

It had been a couple days since everything had gone down. Only the band and Jared knew about it. Kate had asked for nothing to be said to anyone. She hadn’t slept the night before as she went through all her all her options that night. Kate knew now she couldn’t stay with Jared, not after this. It was too much. Once she heard that Mitch was awake the next morning, she pulled herself out of her bunk and walked over to him. “Do you have any plans today?” She asked, pouring herself a coffee.

Mitch shook his head. “No, what did you want to do?”

“I want to go see a lawyer.” Kate stated. “I’m getting divorced.”

That’s exactly what Mitch did. He took his best friend to see a lawyer about getting a divorce. The process seemed pretty simple for what it was, and Kate seemed pretty emotionless towards the whole process. She just wanted to get it over with. All up the meeting took about an hour or so, after that she had all the paper work sorted on her part. Now all she had to do was get Jared to sign it and they would be done.

Mitch kept his arm around Kate as they walked down to post the package to Jared, not really sure what to say to her. She popped the yellow envelope into the post box and it was all official. She had done everything she needed to do. Turing to Mitch, she hugged him. “Thank you for being here.” She sighed, starting to tear up. “I know I’ve been an idiot.”

“I was a bit rough on you too.” He sighed. “I just want you to be happy.”

Wiping the loose tears, she nodded not trusting herself to speak anymore. The pair headed hand in hand back to a cab ready to head back for the show tonight.

Kate played with more energy than she ever had before, feeling as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She was past being sad, she was past being scared and right now, she was ready to live in the moment. For the first time that week she decided to join the after show party that night and get completely wasted. It probably wasn’t a good idea, but she could care less.

Tonight, rather than partying on the buses, the bands decided to go out on the town. The guys at the venue had suggested a good local club that the all headed too. It was just after midnight and Kate was wasted. Something didn’t feel right to her. As much as she was drunk, she was finding it harder than usual to keep up straight. She headed down to the bar to try and get some water.

Tony watched the drunken girl stumble down towards the bar. He felt horrible for what he had said to her the other day, and figured he would try and help her out. Knowing she had had too much to drink, he followed her down to the bar. “I think it’s time we get you back to the buses.” Tony smiled down at the drunk girl. Kate looked up at him, at just stared. It was like she was unable to take in what he was saying. This was the first sign something was up. The second was when Tony realised how wide her pupils were. “Shit. Kate, look at me.”

Tony pulled her face up to look at his, her eye lids were struggling to stay open. “Kate, have you taken anything tonight?” With a tried smile, Kate shook her head. She then leaned into Tony, finding it hard to support herself. Resting against him, she closed her eyes. Tony went into a panic. “No, Kate you have to stay awake okay?”

With that, Tony dragged Kate back up to the VIP area making Vic get her some water straight away. “What’s going on?” Vic asked, handing Tony the water.

“I think someone may have spiked her drink.” He explained, feeing Kate the water from the glass. “I have to get her out of here and back to the buses.”

“I’ll round up the guys and meet you back there?” Vic asked, Tony nodded and muttered a thanks before Vic went to fetch the boys. He pulled the small girl into him and began to walk her outside, her eyes starting to close again. “No, no no, Kate. You have to stay awake for me.” He begged the small girl.

Tony hailed a cab, making sure that Kate go into it. He then followed suite, telling the cab driver the address of the venue.

Kate curled into Tony’s warm figure. “You’re always saving me, Turtle.”
