Chasing The Night

three.

It had been almost three weeks since The Sky’s Alive had confirmed their spot on the spring fever tour and the four of them couldn’t be more excited. The three boys, Jesse, Matt and Mitch were pretty happy to have Kate back in action. She had pretty much turned full house wife the minute she got married. It was good to know some of their Kate was still in there wanting to get out and rock.

The band practiced pretty much every day to get back into shape and get everything down pat. As usual, it came as natural to them and they were back in shape within the first few days.

Kate’s mind ran a million miles an hour after each practice. She was fine until she got home of a night time. Walking into the big and empty house felt lonely. She would cook dinner for Jared and herself and when he would get home, she would listen to how his day was. For the first time she realised that Jared never even asked about her day. The whole of dinner consisted of a big case he was working on almost every night. In the past few weeks she also noticed a few other things that gave her that dreaded feeling in her stomach. Each time she pushed it down further and further. She loved Jared. Jared loved her. That was all she needed.

Tour started tomorrow and both nerves and excitement filled every inch of Kate’s tiny body. She made a massive last dinner and desert tonight and was ready to have a romantic last night with her husband. Jared came home at the same time as usual, placing a kiss on his wife’s cheek. “Someone went all out.” Jared smiled at his wife, placing his things down on the counter. “Special occasion?”

“I leave tomorrow so I decided to go all out for our last night.” She grinned, rather proud of herself. “I figured we could watch movies in bed while not even really paying attention to the movies.” Kate winked.

“Right, tour.” Jared nodded, clearly not happy with the situation. Kate sighed. This really wasn’t what she wanted to do on her last night.

“Yeah, tour.” Kate’s tone was flat. She didn’t want to fight. Not tonight of all nights. She just wanted to have a nice dinner before she left.

“Katelynn, you have to understand that you’re married now and you can’t just be running off for five weeks at a time. I’m not trying to argue, but I just don’t understand why you need to do this.”

“Because this is my job and I adore it.” She shrugged. “Just because I’m married doesn’t mean I’m restricted to the house 24/7.”

“I’m not saying it does, but running off with a bunch of drunk, tattoo’d, untrustworthy idiots wasn’t a part of the deal when we got married.” He growled. “We should be settled and trying to have kids. That kind of thing.”

“I told you that I wasn’t ready for kids and you know that.”
“Clearly! Maybe you weren’t ready for marriage either!”

That was it. Kate snapped. “Maybe I wasn’t!” With that Kate went to storm away from Jared, not wanting to deal with it.

“Don’t you fucking dare, Katelynn.” Jared grabbed his wife’s arm, and hard. Kate let out a yelp in pain, but still he held it in place.

“Jared, you’re hurting me.” Tears were welling up in Kate’s eyes. The man she was looking at, she barely recognized. “Please let go.”

Jared snapped out of his trance, realising her from his grip. All his anger built up and he had snapped. He regretted what he had just done, but wasn’t going to admit it. “Just, go upstairs and we’ll watch a movie.” Jared sighed, trying to change the subject off of him.

That night Jared sucked up to Kate. He watched movies in bed with her just like she had wanted; he kissed and touched her just like she had wanted. But she felt nothing. She only did it to keep him happy. She just wanted it to be over with.

6am bus call killed the members of The Sky’s Alive, but they were more then happy to do it. With excitement coursing through their veins, they were more than ready to take on the long drive to Oklahoma. Starbucks in hands, the four excited members piled onto their tour bus for the first time in a very long time. And boy did it feel good.

Kate was full of smiles. She didn’t bother waking Jared this morning or leaving him a note. After last night, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. She sat at the small booth that they used as a table, sipping at her starbucks. Mitch looked over at her from across the table. “Penny for your thoughts?” He asked, knowing it was going to be tough leaving her husband for the first time.

“I’m just happy to be here.” She smiled over at him. “I needed it.”

“Things not so good at home?” He asked. She shrugged, bringing Mitch’s attention the hand shaped bruise on her left arm. “What the hell is that?”

Mitch was pointing to Kate’s arm, confusing her. Looking down she saw it. The big purple, hand shaped bruise on her left arm. How was she going to explain this? “It’s nothing, Mitch.”

“Bullshit.” He growled. “What happened?!”

Kate sighed, knowing she couldn’t lie to him. “We had a fight and he grabbed me. He didn’t mean to, at least not that hard.”

“I’ll kill him.” Matt snapped. “I’ll punch the bastard.”

“No!” Kate stopped him. “Stop, okay? It’s fine. It was a mistake.”

“If he does it again. . .”

“I know, Mitch.” Kate groaned, not wanting a lecture. “I just want to have a good tour so can we not?”

Mitch sighed and nodded. “You okay with seeing Tony again?”

Kate shrugged, haven’t really had the chance to thing about her ex boyfriend being on the tour with her. “I guess we will have to see how it goes.”

“Do you still have feelings for him?”

“Of course I do, Mitch. He was pretty much my everything even for a short period of time.” She said. “I’ll always have feelings for him, but I’ve also moved on and I have to learn to deal with having Tony around that.”

“Even with the Jared troubles?”

“Even with them.” Truth be told, she missed Tony a lot. But after walking away from him after their fight, she was scared to see his reaction. She wasn’t sure how much he knew about her and Jared as it had pretty much been kept on the down low for a while and this made her nervous. She would always love Tony, and right now that wasn’t the safest thing for her marriage.
