Chasing The Night

thirteen.

Over the next few days Tony and Kate were still spending a lot of time together, but Kate had been distant since Tony had overheard the last of her phone call with Jared. Tony was worried about her. He was also scared that he was going to loose her all over again. The more distant she became, the harder being around her was. Tony had come into this tour thinking he was going to get her back, which of course dramatically changed when he found out she was married. He had opened right back up to her, let her in like he had the first time but as the tour came to a close and he was still friend zoned, he wondered if any of this was a good idea anymore.

Kate saw it too. She saw how nervous Tony was around her every time she would have to cancel plans or ditch him. Most of the time it was because she had to see her lawyer to finalize everything. She knew, deep down, that she couldn’t expect Tony to wait around for her forever. But maybe her luck was about to change?

When she got up that morning there was a large envelope sitting on the kitchen table with her name written on it. Quickly she peeled the letter open, curious as to what it was. Sliding out the paperwork, her stomach became a mix of emotions. Jared had signed the papers and it was all official. According to the documents in Kate’s hand, she was now officially divorced.

The Pierce The Veil boys stood side of stage, watching All Time Low sound check and preparing themselves for sound check. Tony fiddled with the guitar around his neck, getting ready run through tonight’s show. His mind was still on the whole situation with Kate, then again his mind hadn’t stopped being on Kate for the whole tour. “You need to stop thinking about her.” Vic stood beside Tony, knowing he was stressing over Kate.

“Is it that obvious?” Tony asked, looking over at Vic.

Vic nodded at his friend, shifting his feet beneath him. “What is the deal with you two anyway?” It was the question on everyone’s lips and Vic finally asked it. “You’re awfully flirty with her.”

Tony shrugged, not sure how to answer the question. He was just as confused as to what was going on, as anyone else was. “We’re just having a good time, I guess.”

“She’s married, Tony.” Vic stated. He wasn’t trying to be a mood killer but he was watching one of his best friends fall more and more in love with someone he couldn’t have. After this tour, Vic knew exactly what was going to happy. The pair would part ways and Kate would go back to married life leaving Tony a mess once again. He wasn’t going to let Tony get like that again.

“I know that, Vic.” Tony snapped. “In fact, it’s pretty much all I think about. I know that she should be off limits but when the person you love more than anything is standing literally two centimetres from you, you’re going to take whatever you can get.”

Vic sighed. “I just don’t want to you to get hurt again, Tony.” Vic had nothing against Kate. In fact, he adored the girl. He understood how scary falling so head over heels in love with someone could be, but he also wanted to steer Tony in the right direction. “You care too much about her to have it taken away from you again.”

“I can’t loose her again.” Tony mumbled, reality finally hitting him smack in the face.

After sound check and his talk with Vic, Tony picked up his phone and decided to call Kate. His fear of loosing her again was now making him determined to stop that from happening. He wanted to talk to her about what was going to going to happen after this tour and come to an agreement on where they stood.

When she didn’t answer her phone, Tony made his way over to The Sky’s Alive’s bus. Knocking on the door, he waited. The bus door swung open, revealing Mitch standing there. “Hey, Tony.”

“Hey.” Tony smiled. “Is Kate here?”

“She should be in her bunk.” Mitch nodded in the direction of Kate’s bunk. Tony muttered a thanks and then made his way down. Pulling back the curtain slowly, no one was in there. Instead he found a sheet of paper sitting on her bed. One little piece of paper was all it took for everything to click in Tony's head. Distant. She had been distant. Now he knew exactly why. Placing the paper back onto her bunk bed, he walked past her band and crew and off the bus.
