Chasing The Night

ten.

When Tony got Kate back to the bus, he made sure she kept up the water to try and flush whatever it was, out of her system. Kate sat between his legs, facing him so he could keep an eye on her. As she started to sober up, she became hungry which Tony took as s good sign. At her request, he made her up a bowl of lucky charms and 2 pop tarts.

Sitting the food in front of her, she thanked him and began on the pop tarts. “How you feeling?” Tony asked, taking a bite out of one of her pop tarts before throwing it back on the plate.

“A little light headed, but okay.” Kate said. She felt like an idiot now that the alcohol and wore off. Of course it had to be Tony saving her ass after her drink was spiked. Of all people. “I feel like an idiot though.”

“Why?” Tony asked. “Your drink was spiked, it’s not like you did it on purpose.”

Kate just nodded, going back to eating her food. The pair sat in a comfortable silence, not really sure what to say. Tony felt horrible for what he had said to Jared and her, and given the fact that Jared wasn’t here anymore, he figured he might have screwed it up for Kate. Even after all he had said to her, he couldn’t bring himself to blame her for any of it. Just seeing her with Jared, he knew that the changes he saw in her weren’t by choice.

The girl sitting in front of Tony wasn’t Kate, and that scared him to death. To think that the person that he was still so in love with was being wasted on someone like Jared. He had so many questions, but he knew he couldn’t ask her. Not now at least. He only had to look at her to see how broken and scared she looked. That killed him.

After an hour or so of complete silence, Kate finally looked up at Tony. “Thank you.” She muttered. Kate was finding it so hard being around Tony right now. Not because she blamed him for what he had said to Jared or that she was mad, she just hated that he was still so good to her after all this time. She felt horrible.

“You know I’ll always be there for you, Kate.” Tony smiled, rubbing her back as he pulled her into him. “Even when you don’t want me.”

Kate didn’t know what to say, so she let him comfort her feeling content to have him hold her there. Kate wanted him, she knew that now more than ever. But she was still married and not planning on telling anyone about the divorce yet, she had to be careful what she did. “Are the boys back yet?”

Tony nodded. “I got a text from Vic about an hour back telling me that they were with the All Time Low guys and asking if you were okay.”

“If you want, you can go and join them.”

Shaking his head, Tony leant back against the couch and placed his arm around Kate. “I’m content here for now.”

Tony didn’t leave The Sky’s Alive bus that night, both him and Kate were trying to subtly absorb every moment they could with each other knowing that tomorrow, things would have to go back to normal.

It broke his heart to get up and leave early the next morning. Even though he would be seeing her all day and for the next few weeks, it wasn’t going to be the same as having her so dependent and so close to him again. Reluctantly, Tony moved the small, sleeping girl from his arms and placed the blanket over her. Giving her a quick kiss on the forehead, trying not to wake her, he walked out of the bus.

Not wanting to head back to his bus or wake anyone yet, Tony braved the cool and crisp morning air. It was just after 5:30am so the boys wouldn’t be up for a while now, especially with hangovers. Tony began to walk aimlessly around the grounds, not sure what to do. He was hurting, that’s all he knew right now. Having the one person he loved more than anything hurting, was killing him. Seeing her and not being able to hold her, tell her what he wanted to or anything like that, he couldn’t stand it. What was he going to do? She was married now and that’s not a commitment you make unless you’re 100% in for the long run. But she looked so miserable?

Tony groaned in frustration, blowing out a cold breath of air from his lungs. The situation was a mess, Kate was a mess and he was a mess. Tony almost wished he was still in the dark about her marriage. It would be hurting him less and he wouldn’t be feeling nearly as guilty as he did about having such strong feelings towards a married girl.

The tall boy sat in the cold air for what seemed like forever, just thinking and feeling every emotion he had tried to hold in for so long now. He felt it all. Not long after this, he received a text from Vic, who was apparently awake, asking where he was. Popping him a quick reply, Tony took another deep breath and headed back to the bus. He knew that they boys would be asking a lot of questions about last night, and to be honest, he didn’t know how to answer them because he was just as confused about it all as they were.
