Chasing The Night

one.

Katelynn Scott had everything a typical 26 year old could ask for. The big house, the cute dog, the nice car and the dream husband. But Kate wasn’t the stereotypical 26 year old. She was the front woman in a band called The Sky's Alive and after taking a year off to get married and settled down, Kate was more then happy to get the tour offer of a life time. Even if there was one small problem. The headlining band of the tour, was Kate’s ex boyfriend, Tony Perry’s band Pierce The Veil.

Tony and Kate had been together for just over a year when they toured together for the second time. They were the perfect couple and everyone knew it. On the last night of tour things seemed to have the normal vibe to them, everyone ecstatic to end the tour on a good note. The atmosphere was high for everyone. Except for Tony and Kate. After arguing all day as to what would happen after this tour, the couple were far from their usual selves. One final argument before The Sky's Alive went on stage and Kate was fed up. She didn’t know how to handle things with Tony, so as soon as they had finished playing, Kate left. Not speaking to Tony, or the rest of his band since.

Kate wasn’t going to let that night or anything else stop her from accepting this tour offer. Upon calling the boys in the band, they were stoked. So it was an instant yes. Hanging up the phone and a smile gracing her features, Kate walked into the kitchen to tell her husband. Jared Carter was far from Kate’s usual taste in men, with his clean cut look. Not a single tattoo upon his skin, he was the polar opposite of what Tony had been. Jared was a lawyer and a friend of Kate’s family growing up. She was exactly the type of boy your parents would want you to bring home. “Someone looks happy.” Jared smiled at his wife as she entered the kitchen. He was currently sitting at the table working on his laptop.

“We got a tour!” She cried out happily, the smile not leaving her face. “The Sky's Alive are back!”

“That’s great, love.” He smiled at her. Jared never really got the whole band thing, as much as he loved Kate. He grew up being taught to get a real job and work hard, which Kate understood. “How long for?”

“About 5 weeks all up.” She explained. “We’ll be supporting some pretty awesome bands and playing to thousands of people!”

Jared sighed up at his wife. “5 weeks?” he didn’t sound impressed. “That’s a long time.”

Kate nodded. “I know it’s a while, but you could always come out and visit me. Maybe even watch us play?”

Jared shook his head. “I’m way too busy to just hope on a plane and come see you, Katelynn.” He said this like it was obvious. “Besides, I’m not too keen on bonding with the type of people that lead that lifestyle.”

Kate wasn't sure how to take this. She was kind of offended that he was reacting this way. Any time that Jared had a business trip that was over a week long, Kate would always make the effort to go and see him. She would talk him up to friends and was really proud of him in every way possible. Kate expected the same from him. “What do you mean by those ‘type’ of people?”

“I’ve met the boys in your band a few times and they aren't the type of people I see myself hanging around, let alone having a mass of them around me. All tattoo’d, pierced and just not the standard of people I want to be around” He shrugged. “Frankly, it worries me leaving my wife with them for 5 weeks.”

“They’re my friends, Jared.” She stated. “And I have tattoo’s but you still married me!”

“I also thought you were done with that kind of lifestyle and that you were ready to settle down, get a real job and have kids.” He sighed. “Maybe I was wrong.”

Not wanting to fight, Kate shut her mouth and walked away. Sitting on her bed, her thoughts began to run wild. Was going on tour really the right thing? This was his reaction without even knowing that he ex boyfriend would be there. Was she really being a good wife by doing this? The word wife never felt so heavy.
