Let Me In

Stupid Decisions from Inebriated Times

I slid the card key on the reader clumsily as I carried a very drunk Sarah in my arms. I was sober enough to still be conscious of my actions, however everything was becoming a blur at this point. I didn’t even remember how we got back, all I knew was that Sarah was beginning to blabber, and that was the number one queue for me that whatever had gotten in her stomach was about to come out. I pushed the door with my foot and headed straight to the bathroom, carefully placing Sarah on the floor next to the toilet bowl before turning on the lights; this made her squirm and grunt for a couple of seconds before she gulped and directed her head straight into the toilet. I grabbed her hair gently to the side as she poured the unhealthy amounts of alcohol consumed out of her. This went on for about fifteen minutes until everything she’d eaten and drunk tonight was out of her system.

“I’m sorry, I totally just ruined the night.” she said, almost crying.

“You’re kidding right? Tonight you completely surprised me and you were so brave,” I said, commenting on our late night adventure. “You’re always fun, and today you just pushed yourself to the limits and I swear I’m more attracted to you every day that passes,” I drunkenly rambled right before she started lightly sobbing.

“I’m, like, so happy you’re saying that, I’m always so so so self conscious and all of the girls here are, like, models and I don’t know, I worry that I, like, don’t fit in your lifestyle,”

“That should be the last of your worries,” I responded, kissing her temple.

I helped her clean herself off by helping her take off her make up, changing out of her puke-stained clothes and slid one of my large tanks on her before putting her to bed right before she passed out. I took all of my clothes off except my boxers before I changed the bandages on my knuckles after getting some splinters from breaking one of my drumsticks and fell in bed, immediately passing out.

The sound of my alarm startled me, however I was too hungover to move. I grunted, knowing that the moment I moved my arm to stop it, I would wake the dormant migraine that followed a night of reckless drinking. I slowly reached for the night stand, barely opening my eyes, slamming my hand down in hopes to find my phone without throwing it on the floor. On my third attempt I managed to get it, and I slid my finger across the screen, making it shut up. I grunted, knowing that it was time to wake up.

“These are the moments I regret drinking,” I muttered to myself, almost inaudibly.
I turned around and saw Sarah, laying on her chest completely asleep; she was so gone that not even thirty seconds of my alarm woke her. She looked so peaceful, and calm that I really didn’t want to wake her up, however today we were heading to the Grand Canyon, so we needed to be out relatively early, since it was almost a five hour drive to the Lodges.

“Morning Sleeping Beauty,” I said, nudging her by the shoulder softly. No response. I repeated the same thing, but this time I got closer to her and moved her for a couple of seconds longer until I heard a loud grunt.

“Five more minutes,”

“Okay, but when I come back from the bathroom you have to get up,” I said, kissing her forehead but she didn't stay awake long enough to notice, she just went back into deep slumber.

I slowly sat up, trying not to make myself dizzy and placed both my feet on the ground. This really was the hardest part; once you're up and running, coffee and ibuprofen can keep you alive for the rest of the day, but if you're as useless as Sarah was at this moment then there's not enough meds in the world to keep you alive through the hangover. However she was always this way, so I knew that a couple more minutes of sleep could definitely make a difference. The road would be long, and so I’d need to keep enough energy to survive the drive. I decided to take a shower before heading downstairs, in hopes that it would make the day easier, allowing the warm water run down my shoulders, relaxing my muscles and calming down the after-concert soreness.

After finishing, I stood there for a couple of minutes and then got out of the shower, wrapped my towel around my waist before heading back into the room to find Sarah beginning to slowly wake up. She stretched herself across the bed and slowly sat up.

“Oh God, I haven’t had a hangover as bad as this one,” she muttered, rubbing her eyes with her hands, smearing the left over makeup across her face.

“I'm sorry, we'll get some Pedialyte on the way,” I said sitting right in front of her after planting a kiss on her forehead; everyone knew that crackers and Pedialyte could cure any hangover.

"How bad was I last night?"

"I honestly can't remember anything,"

She giggled and smiled softly and leaned over to kiss me lightly before standing up. She was wearing only my tank, however it went all the way down to her knees. She slowly made her way to the bathroom, scratching her hair lightly and locked the door behind her.
In the meantime I began to get dressed, messily putting my clothes inside my suitcase. As I slid my pants on, I heard Sarah swear from inside the bathroom.

“Are you okay?” I screamed and Sarah came out of the bathroom.

“Do I have something on my neck? I was combing my hair and I scratched it. It feels like it's burning,” she said, lifting her hair up and turning around and I gasped.

“Holy shit,”

“Oh God Mike what is it?” She freaked and I started laughing. I took my phone out and took a picture of her neck and handed it to her.

“Oh fuck,” she said slowly as she stared at the image of the fresh tattoo on her neck. “Fuck, holy shit, oh my God, Mike what the fuck is this?”

“Well, I guess you finally left your fears behind, and best part is you don't have to worry about the pain since you just don’t remember,” I said, still trying not to giggle but it was too funny. This was textbook drunk stuff: getting a drunk tattoo? Yeah it's happened before but it happening to Sarah just made it funnier.

“Oh Jesus Christ, Mike this is literally the dumbest idea ever,”

“Well, I could totally tell you worse ones,”

“Mike I got so drunk I got a tattoo! Stop laughing!”

“I’m sorry this is just too funny!” I began “Just look at the good things about it,” I added, getting closer to her.

“It's really well done,” she commented, as she warmed up to it “and I have always wanted it. I also really like the coloring,”

“See? There you go! Those are things to love about it,”

“I guess you’re right,” she said, wrapping her arms around my waist, yet leaning herself backwards to meet my eyes. Even though she was always saying how terrible the leftover makeup made her look, she was still the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. “I’m gonna go take a quick shower so we can be on our way, sounds good?” she said, snapping me out of my daydream.

“Sounds like a plan,” I responded, leaning over and kissing her lips softly before she turned around and locked herself back in the bathroom.

After packing up and making sure nothing was left in the room, Sarah and I headed downstairs to check out and head out on our way. Sarah wasn’t sure she’d manage to put anything in her stomach at this point, however I’d insisted that we’d buy some food at the pharmacy.
“Fine, Jesus you’re so persistent,”

“I am a little offended, you’d think that by now you’d know my name by now,” I winked as nudged her. We headed straight out to the lobby and met everyone.

“You guys look so done,” Vic commented at our clearly hungover look; Sarah was wearing her glasses unlike most times when she wore contact lenses, leggings with a long, baggy top with her hair up in a bun and had skipped her makeup routine. I was wearing the usual, but instead of skinny jeans I was wearing sweatpants.

“Yeah, we partied a little too hard last night,” Sarah added as she took a sip of her water.

“We came back at like 1 though, didn’t we?” Tony said, confused.

“Yeah we may have partied a little more afterwards,” I giggled, but everyone was still confused. At that point I looked at Sarah, obviously communicating silently that I wanted her to show them the tattoo. She sighed and turned around, showing everyone her new body art.

“Oh, my God,” Jaime said, almost bursting into laughter before everyone else began to laugh too.

“Yeah, yeah laugh it up,” Sarah added, beginning to laugh about it too.

“Oh Sarah, you’re gonna end up drinking so much more than this if you’re gonna end up coming on tours with us. You’re gonna have to improve your game.” Tony added, nudging her lightly as we headed to the checkout counter and once everyone paid their bills, we made our way outside where our cars were waiting for us. We loaded up our suitcases and said our goodbyes before getting in the cars and driving away.

“Grand Canyon here we go!”
