Let Me In

Matador Beach

The doorbell rang and my heart sunk. He was here and there was no way back now. I was dying to open the door and see his face but at the same time the nerves seemed to be killing me.

“Coming,” I said, my voice shaking a little. I slowly walked towards the door and took a glance out of the peep hole, and there he was. He had an undeniable smirk in his face and that was quite relieving for me, it meant he wanted to see me and even though I already knew that, it made me feel a little less nervous. He rang the doorbell once more, just to be annoying and then I opened the door.

“You’re a little impatient aren’t you?” I said leaning a little against the door frame and he smiled.

“Well I was pretty excited to see you, so yes I am,” he said and before I could even respond he stole a small peck from me. The moment our lips connected all of my nerves were gone; I knew I wanted this and I wasn’t scared anymore. It was a short and soft kiss and so after a couple of seconds his lips parted mine and our eyes met. Neither of us could avoid smiling. “I’m feeling pretty confident now after taking your breath away,”

“Don’t be so cocky,” I retorted jokingly

“Are you ready to go?” He asked and I nodded with a chuckle before locking my door and taking his hand as he led the way down the stairs and out of the building.

“So where exactly are we going?” I asked as he backed out of the parking spot but instead of responding he turned on the radio. “Uhm, Mike, where are we going?” I asked again; I will admit I got just a little worried with his silence, however I was surely excited to see what crazy plan he had in mind for us.

“You’ll see,”

We were in the car for a solid 30 minutes when I saw the coast. We were in Malibu and the sun was close to setting.

“Okay, Mike where are we going?” I asked one more time breaking our current conversation, only to hear Mike laugh at me.

“Do you trust me?”

“Yes, but if you tell me you’re gonna drive us off a cliff I’m calling the police,” I said with a chuckle which only made him laugh.

“Then you won’t be able to see my pretty face again,”

“Jesus you’re so cocky. Now stop avoiding my questions and tell me where we’re going!”

“We’re here,” he finally said as we pulled up into Matador Beach. I had read about this place but I had never been; it was marked as one of California’s most beautiful beaches, and I can definitely tell this was probably a very romantic sight: the sea, the sand, the sunset. We parked right by the coast into a more secluded area and we got out of the car. His hand found mine and we began to walk towards the sand.

“Oh shit, wait,” I said stopping.

“Is everything okay?”

“Yeah I just have to take these off,” I said, pointing at my shoes, with a small chuckle at the end; they weren’t very beach appropriate to say the least. I took them with my other hand and held his hand tightly once more as we walked towards one of the large rocks and sat down next to each other.

“This is one of my favorite places here in California. I love to come here and just think about anything that comes to mind.” He murmured almost quiet enough to blend with the sound of the waves.

“What are you thinking about right now?”

“I’m just happy to be here with you,” he turned towards me and stared deep into my eyes, almost as if he was asking me to read into them; and somehow I was able to do exactly that. There was a glimmer within them that sparkled with the light of the sun; a glimmer that screamed happiness all over. His eyebrows were relaxed and his lips had gone from a natural expression to a slight smirk. I slowly moved my hand to the side of his face and slowly ran it down; I could feel the very small stubble from when he shaved as well as the smooth skin on his face.

“I’m glad,” I responded slowly and quietly as I slowly moved my face closer to his. We were inches away from each other, and for what seemed ages neither of us did anything other than maintain our eyes locked in each other’s stares. There was something so pure about this moment, something magical. Kind of like the moment in the movies when they play the slow song right before the main characters declared their eternal love for each other - just in real life and without the whole birds singing and dancing as the credits scroll. I had lost track of how long it had been, but all I knew is that the tension was unbearable and I had had enough of the drumroll; I needed to kiss him. I pushed my head forwards and met his lips mine in a passionate and needed kiss.
