The New Family Member

Surprise!

Noortje's POV
It was Tony’s birthday, the end of February. I had been wanting to give him his gift the entire day, but we were never alone and I wanted it to be more personal. My gift was pretty awesome, if I said so myself. But I had to give it while the entire crew was around, which was rather annoying. I couldn’t wait anymore, though. I had been planning this gift for a while now. However, I did insist on giving my gift last.

Many of the crew members had given him bottles of alcohol, in total he had at least 20. But, in all honestly, those bottles would probably be all finished before the end of tour, or at least 8 of them, there were only a couple more weeks of tour left so 20 was a bit unrealistic. But you never knew with these guys. He had gotten a star wars pillow from Mike, some personalized guitar pics from Jaime, and a weird stormtrooper figurine from Vic. I must admit, those were some pretty cool gifts, but mine was still going to be the best.

“So, I was going to give yours earlier today, but we never had any time alone-” I started.

“Ooh! It’s sex!” Mike hollered.

“No, it’s not sex,” I shrugged him off, “nor am I wearing anything sexy, because, come on, ain’t nobody got time for that.”

Tony laughed, showing me his smile that could light my whole world up.

“But anyway, I wasn’t going to give you this in front of anybody,” I turned to Mike, Jaime and Vic, because of you guys. So each one of you will have to suffer seeing his reaction and not knowing what it is.”

“Awe, come on-” Jaime argued.

“No, you’ll get to know later,” I picked up the large cardboard box that that I had wrapped with some shiny paper and handed it to Tony, “Make sure you open it without anybody able to see inside.”

Tony gave me a nervous grin, “Ok? It isn’t going to jump out at me, is it?”

“It might give you a heart attack, but only for the right reasons.”

“Ok, then…” Tony slowly took the top of the box off and looked inside. There was a white piece of paper covering the other contents. He picked it up and gave me a confused glance.

“Read it,” I urged, “Just not out loud.”

Tony did exactly that and then looked inside the box. He gasped and looked at me with wide eyes, “no way!”

I nodded, tears about to spring out of my eyes, “Yes.”

“No fucking way!” He closed the box, put it aside, and stood up before engulfing me into a hug. The paper had said ‘you will need this later on’ and underneath it were two black baby converse shoes and a positive pregnancy test. I had taken it a week ago and was astonished to see I was actually pregnant. After taking a couple more tests and even waiting a couple more days, it was still positive, and that’s when I started planning out the entire gift.

Tony kissed me, “I didn’t even know you- Oh my god.” He planted his lips against mine a couple more times. When he finally pulled away I saw that tears had formed in his eyes. Happy tears.

I wiped away his tears, “Awe, don’t cry.”

I saw Vic standing awkwardly while the others were starting to get curious.

“I want to know what would make Tony cry!” Jaime pouted.

“You will get to know,” I tried telling him without giving anything away, “but first I need to check the details and see if it actually goes through.”

“Ugh, fine.”

I turned back to Tony, remembering something I had forgotten to tell him. Of course I didn’t want everybody to hear, because then it would have been a give away, so I whispered in Tony’s ear instead, “The day after we get back we have our first doctor’s appointment.”

After he heard that Tony wrapped his arms around me again, “I can’t wait.”

Time Skip
It was the day after we finished tour and got home again, the day of the scan. It was also coincidentally the first day I had morning sickness. I had been preparing myself for it, knowing how bad it was, but it still caught me by surprise. Tony had woken me up by kissing me and I happily returned it by pulling him closer to me. He was about to straddle me when I suddenly felt very nauseated and pushed him off. I got up and ran towards the bathroom, pushing the door open and skidding across the tile floor for a bit when my knees painfully hit the floor.

“Noortje? Baby, are you ok?” Tony came rushing behind me.

I was already throwing up the contents of my stomach when he entered the bathroom. He took over holding my hair and rubbed my back. I remained seated for a while after I had finished in case I would start again. When I was sure I was all good, I let Tony help me back up. I brushed my teeth quickly before leaning into Tony’s chest.

“Luckily I overcame my fear of vomiting last time,” I sighed, “I hope it won’t be as bad though.”

“Me neither,” Tony lifted my chin and carefully kissed me, not being bothered by the fact I was vomiting just a couple of minutes before, “Let’s go get ready, I want to meet this little baby.” He placed his hand on my stomach. I could definitely get used to Tony being so affectionate.

Tony was so excited that we had managed to get to the hospital 20 minutes earlier than me had planned. He wouldn’t shut up about how amazing he thought it was that we had created a life. All I could think about was how everything could still go wrong, especially at this stage. But I wasn’t going to ruin his mood, I knew that deep down he also knew that anything could go wrong.

“When do you want to tell our parents and the others?” Tony broke our silence in the waiting room.

There were many other couples, some just like us and others already very far along. Some looked so happy, while others looked fed up with each other. Pregnancy could cause a lot of fights, especially with all the hormones. I could feel some people giving us some judgemental looks; I was a young looking redhead and Tony was covered in tattoos. But as long as we knew our love for each other it was fine. I knew Tony was one of the kindest people I had ever met, and Tony knew I wasn’t years younger than him.

“I don’t know, Tone. I don’t want to tell them yet, incase anything, you know, happens. I’d rather keep it a secret than have to disappoint our family and friends,” I mumbled, feeling bad about bringing something slightly morbid up.

“You’re right. Let’s first see how everything’s going and then we can discuss that.”

I rested my head on his shoulder and took a deep breath. I was actually quite nervous. What if the 4 pregnancy tests I took were wrong? What if the morning sickness was just a complete coincidence? What if they could find anything? I could only think of the bad things that could happen. Never did it cross my mind that everything could be perfectly fine. I guess that’s what a miscarriage did to you.

My name was called and Tony and I both entered the doctor’s office. We sat down at one end of the table where two chairs were placed while the doctor sat on the other. He took out a file and looked at the sheet before looking up at us and smiling.

“So, my name is Dr. Smit and I will be your doctor through your pregnancy if that’s fine with you,” he introduced.

“Umm, yeah,” I said, a bit confused as to why he would ask me that.

“Some women prefer a female doctor,” he clarified.

“Oh, ok. No, that’s fine.”

“Okay, well. First we are going to confirm your pregnancy and talk about any medical history you have. Then we are going to do some tests.”

Tony squeezed my hand as we both nodded. This was going to be a long appointment. I told Dr. Smit all about my previous miscarriage and how it happened. I also told him about the weight I had lost last time and about any other major health problems I had had. He noted down every important thing I had said and then sent me off to pee in a cup. When it was confirmed that I was indeed pregnant - which I was almost 100% sure about, but still felt relieved about when the doctor gave me the news - my weight and height were measured. I found out I was 5’8 and 136 pounds, which was really good compared to when I was only 110 pounds.

“So, according to what you said, I’m guessing you’re seven weeks pregnant,” The doctor smiled, “which means we should be able to hear your baby’s heartbeat. If you would like to take a seat over there.”

He pointed at a bed-like thing, which had a large monitor besides it. I lied down and Tony sat down on the stool beside me. He took my hand again and kissed my knuckles. I could see the excitement and happiness radiating off him. A few seconds later the doctor joined us and took out a big bottle of gel. He told me to raise my shirt and lower my jeans.

“So, this might be a bit cold,” he squirted some of the gel on my stomach. I always thought it was cliche when women said that gel was cold, but damn they were right. He turned on the monitor and started rolling the probe over my stomach. A gray image with a large black area in the middle popped up. After a while a small gray blob appeared in the black mass.

“Oh my god, that’s our baby,” Tony whispered.

The doctor chuckled, “yes it is,” He continued rolling the thing around my stomach, “now, I want to find the longest end so I can give you a more accurate due date,” He pressed some buttons and zoomed in before dragging a line across the shape that was supposed to be the baby, “so I can confirm there is only one baby and say that your due date is the 29th of October. This date might change as time goes by, though.”

He continued telling us what he could see on the screen and Tony kept holding my hand tighter and tighter. Suddenly Dr. Smith pressed a button and a low fast beating could be heard. The number 143 could be seen on the screen.

“That’s your baby’s heartbeat,” He watched the screen as the heartbeat was displayed.

Tony started tearing up again and nuzzled his face against my shoulder, “I’ve wanted this for so long.”

I ran my fingers through his hair and remembered the question he had asked me in the waiting room, “So, when do you think will be a good time to tell our family and friends?”

“I would wait for the 12 weeks scan and then tell them after that, maybe at around 14 weeks,” The doctor suggested.

“Ok,” I thanked, “the scan is in 5 weeks, I think we’re on tour then.” Tony nodded in agreement.

“You can schedule an appointment at the hospital in whatever place you are. If you inform the hospital here and there of your situation they can send all the information over to me. Concerning your other appointments, I suggest you stop touring at 20 weeks, with the other health problems you’ve had and the stress, I don’t want you going on stage every night.” Dr. Smit wiped away the excess gel and motioned me to roll my top back down and the raise my jeans again.

“We’ll talk to our tour manager and bandmates about that so we can organise somebody to fall in for her,” Tony agreed.

“Ok, well then. I’ve got some pictures for you and I’ll see you in a couple of weeks. Call me if you have any questions or problems.”

Tony and shook hands with Dr. Smit and said our goodbyes. We both left the hospital feeling ecstatic and with big smiles on our faces. Finally I was pregnant and it was going well so far.

Notes

Let's see how Vic reacts when he finds out! Will it be good or will there be a lot of drama?

I accidentally deleted this chapter (or better to say my cat walked over my keyboard and mouse pad making me delete the chapter) so sorry if anybody had already read this chapter and thought I had updated again (it was only out for 7 hours so not many people should have read it).

@aweirdkindofyellow
Wow, someone's been keeping busy ;) but don't push yourself, if you don't have time, you don't have time. I mean you're doing 3 at once! That's amazing! Just let me know when you've posted the new one! ;*

@Thebandobsessedgirlwithnolife
Yep, it was my first, and you can definitely tell by how badly The New Member is written at the very beginning. And I'm thinking of starting a new story, I have an idea, but I already have three stories going on (two on the ATL website and the collaborative story I'm writing on here) so I'll have to see when I can write it. I first want to plan it out completely, so it might take a while.

@aweirdkindofyellow
That was your first?! Holy! I can't wait for you to write more then! You did an amazing job! <33
