Tables Turned

Drowning Lessons

My head was aching. My body was aching. My whole face felt like it was going to fall off into the ground. How much did I drink last night? "Savannah, you're on my leg." A croaky British accent said from beside me. I finally opened my eyes and noticed I was in a sleeping bag, naked and lying across Ben.

"Shit sorry." I mumbled and tried to sit up. My head was throbbing and making me feel really dizzy. I looked around and seen Mike and Jaime passed out at the other side of the dead fire. Tony and Lynn were beside me and then I looked over towards Vic's car and he was sat in the back seat, looking over towards us. The door of the car was open but he just sat there, head against the backseat staring off into space.

"Can you move your leg?" Ben asked. I looked at him and pulled my legs away. I then tried to stand up but my sleeping back wouldn't allow me to without exposing myself to everyone.

I noticed my shirt and pants lying next to Vic's car. "Vic?" I asked as quietly as I could so I didn't wake anyone up. He looked at me in an instant. "Could you pass me my clothes?" I pointed at them on the ground near him and he got out of the car and got them for me.

He walked over and handed them to me. "You look better without them." He said slyly and winked at me. I felt my cheeks burn red with embarrassment. I don't remember much from the night before but I do remember skinny dipping so I assumed he saw me naked.

I quickly threw the shirt over my head and then dropped the sleeping bag and pulled my pants on. Vic walked back over to his car and sat down so I began looking for my vans. I spotted one under my car and quickly dashed for it.

The other one was nowhere to be seen. "I think you threw it into the water." Vic spoke up. I looked at him and groaned.

"Why the fuck did I do that?" I questioned.

"Same reason you refused to get dressed after skinny dipping." He grinned and walked over to me.

"And that was?"

"I don't need clothes, I'm one with nature and I'm never going back to the city!" He said trying to mock my voice.

"That's rude." I scolded him as I lightly whacked his arm.

"I guess I won't help you find your shoe then!" He shrugged and began walking to his car again.

"Ugh please help me." I begged. He stopped and turned around quickly.

"Are you begging me?" He cocked his head to the side. I felt like punching him on the nose but that would mean he wouldn't help me. "I love when you beg." Was he flirting with me?

"Just help." I said rolling my eyes. He shrugged and then walked past me and down to the lake. I followed him down and began my search but to no avail, I found nothing but leaves and alcohol bottles.

Vic searched more in the water because he had shorts on and no shoes, so I stood at the side and watched him.

I guess I never really noticed him before. He's quite something. His curly brown hair always fell onto his shoulders perfectly and curled up in the cutest way possible. His biceps were something of a work of art though. For a small guy, he was toned in the nicest way possible.

"I can't find it." He whined like a kid that was denied a piece of candy. He turned around and gave me a sad look.

"What an idiot I am." I groaned loudly and slapped my hand over my face.

"Don't you have any spares?" He asked as he stomped out of the water. I gave him an incredulous look.

"Who keeps spare shoes in their car?"

"I do." He stated. I rolled my eyes at him. Clearly he was just trying to get to me.

"Well good for you but in Oregon we tend to keep our shoes on our feet. San Diego has ruined me." I huffed and turned and walked back towards the cars.

"What's the big issue? You have other shoes at the apartment right?" Vic asked as he followed me to my car.

"Yeah I do, I just don't think I'll make it back to even get the shoes." I said a little more dramatically than I should've.

"Just drive without shoes on?" He suggested.

"I can't do that for like half an hour." I whined a little.

"Why don't you wear Lynn's shoes?"

"Her feet are too small. I was gonna borrow a pair of heels two weeks ago but her feet are like baby feet." I laughed a little thinking of me trying the shoes on.

Silence fell between us and I feel hopeless.

"I'll drive your car back if you want?" Vic offered. I raised an eyebrow at him.

"You're not insured on my car though." I pointed out.

"Okay, well you have a nice life out here with nature." He smirked at me and walked past me.

"Wait." I called after him. "Fine but you better be careful." I warned him.

He turned and smiled sweetly at me. "I'm always careful Savannah."

I didn't know what he was specifically talking about but it confused me a little. "Who's gonna drive your car back?" I asked as I caught up with him.

"I'll just get Jaime or Tony to." He shrugged. "And I have one condition." He stopped and looked at me.

"What's that?" I asked.

"Ben doesn't ride back with us." He said bluntly.

"Why?" I shook my head in confusion.

"I can't stand him okay." He said quickly.

"Fine, I'll tell him to ride back with Mike or something." I rolled my eyes. Vic smiled smugly and I just walked away.

"Why do you have only one CD in your car?" Vic asked after we got onto the highway.

"Because I don't have the space to have a full collection." I responded with an annoyed tone in my voice. Then I remembered someone gave me a CD when I was leaving Oregon. I opened the glove compartment and began searching through it. "I lied I do have another CD in here." I said and pulled the CD out.

"What is it?" He asked.

"I brought you my bullets, you brought me your love by My Chemical Romance. Hmm, never heard of them." I said as I opened the case and put it into the stereo.

"If this sucks I'm abandoning your car and leaving you." Vic said firmly. I rolled my eyes and pressed play.

The beginning was a beautiful guitar piece on loop. It almost sounded Spanish. The next track opened with a guitar riff and led up to the bass and drums kicking in. "So far so good." I grinned at myself. I wish I could remember who gave me this album because it's exactly something I would like.

"It's different." He nodded along. "I could get with this I suppose."

"It's only one song in and I love it!" I gushed like an excited child.

He looked at me with an amused smile on his face. "You're such a dork."

"I'm cooler than you." I fought back. Vic rolled his eyes and continued to drive.

After a few songs I decided that I indeed, love this band.

"So why do you dislike Ben?" I asked randomly. Vic's face went from relaxed to rigid.

"He just annoys me. He comes across as fake Savannah. I don't understand why you're friends with him." He said without even taking his eyes off the road ahead of him.

"Why do you suddenly care whom I'm friends with?" I raised an eyebrow and stared at the side of his head.

"It just seems like he's out to get you. Like you're some sort of prize." Vic said bitterly. "It's creepy the way he looks at you sometimes."

"I think you're being a tad dramatic now." I rolled my eyes and looked out of the window and watched San Diego pass me by.

"Whatever. You asked and I told. Don't be biter with what you heard." Vic mumbled. I ignored his comment. What does he know? He's barely even my friend anyway.
