I'm definitely not a fan

2:04 am.
“Shit!” I said while I was forcefully hitting the ‘open’ button.
“Hitting it won’t make it go open.” The drummer said painfully calm.
“If you’d just stay out of it, please.” I said as I gave the button last blow. This was the last straw for me. This day was officially the worst day of my life.
The guy raised his hands in defense and sat down against the wall of the elevator. He took out his phone out of his pocket and started ticking on it.
“Don’t even try. There’s no service and no internet connection here.” I said while I was walking up and down the small space.
“I know. Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time I’ve been in a venue like this.” He said sarcastically. “I’m just playing a game to kill the time. I figured we’ll be in here for a while.”
I began to get annoyed with him, which wasn’t that hard in my current mood. It bothered me that he just gave up. “Isn’t there anything we can do? Like push the emergency button?” I said and I glanced at the red button on the panel.
“Nope” he said, popping the ‘p’. He didn’t look up from his phone. “It’s two in the morning, everyone is home already.”
“What about your band mates? Or your tour manager? Security guards?” I said, not trying to hide the annoyance in my voice.
“Home.”
“What were you doing here then?” I said, throwing my hands up in the air. I didn’t understand how he could be so calm. I needed to go to Rosey. I couldn’t get the idea out of my head that she might be hurt.
The guy looked up from his phone and shut me a semi-irritated look. “That’s none of your business.” He said and he shot me a fake smile.
“Well, I’m sorry I was just asking. You don’t have to be angry.” I said as I started walking around again.
“I tried, but you kept yelling at me.” He said and turned to his phone again.
“Oh why would I be yelling, right?! I’m stuck in an elevator at two am in the morning and I have no idea where my best friend is!”
The drummer looked up from his phone again. “Can you please calm down? In a few hours there will be lots of people here again, they’ll notice the elevator isn’t working and then they will help us out. But right now, there is not a single fuck you can do. So sit the fuck down and make the best out of the next couple of hours.”
I wanted to yell at him, but I knew that would be unfair towards him. I was just pushing my bad mood at him.
I sighed and sat down on the floor of the elevator, across from him. I put my knees up and swung my arms around them. “This sucks.”
“Uhm. Weird, I thought you’d like this.” He said. I looked up to him and saw to my surprise that he was serious.
I raised my eyebrow. “Why would I like being stuck in an elevator?”
“I thought you were a fan.” His eyes were glued to his phone again. I wondered what game he would be playing.
“It’s kinda cocky to just assume that I’m a fan.” I said and I rolled my eyes. I didn’t even look like his average fans.
He chuckled. “You’re wearing a shirt with my band name on it and you’re at my concert.”
I blushed. I didn’t really think of that. God that was stupid. At least he didn’t see me blush.
“Well, I’m definitely not a fan.” I said grumpy and buried my head between my knees.
“What the hell are you doing here then?” He said, chuckling again. Well, I’m glad I’m amusing you, asshole, I thought.
“That’s none of your business.” I said, looking up at him again and shooting him a bitchy look.
He looked up from his phone with a surprised look on his face. He laughed as he hit the home button of his phone and put it in his pocket. “Touché.” He said. “Okay well, let’s do it like this then: I tell you why I’m still here at two am and then you tell me why you’re at my concert, wearing fan merch.”
I glared at him. I actually didn’t want to agree, just to annoy him, but I was actually quite curious why he was here. “deal.” I eventually said. “You first.”
“Ladies first.”
“Well, luckily for me I’m not really ladylike. You go first.”
A smile grew on his face, showing off his perfect white teeth. Okay, I could kind of understand why Rosey thought this guy was attractive. Although he wasn’t really my type.
“Alright.” He said and fiddled at the piercing above his lips. “After the show I got a call from my girlfriend. She broke up with me. As you can imagine I was kind of devastated. I drunk a little bit too much vodka after that and past out in a bathroom. I think the guys thought I was already at the bus and left.”
I glared at him, kind of taken back by his honesty. I felt actually kind of bad for him. Phone break ups were the worst kind of break ups. I could know, Ï had experience with them.
I tried my best to put up a comforting smile on my face, but I wasn’t really good at these things. Every time someone was sad I just ran away really hard, because I just didn’t know what to do. But now, there was no way to run away. “Oh, I’m sorry for you.” I said silently, looking down at my knees.
He shrugged. “you don’t have to be. I should’ve seen it coming.” He said. “Well now you.”
I stretched down my legs and moved over to the wall behind me to lean against it. “I’m here with a friend. She is a big fan of you guys, but she had no one else to go with.”
“So why are you wearing a Pierce the veil shirt then?” He said and the surprising thing was that he actually seemed interested.
I chuckled. “My friend thought I stood out to much, so she bought me this shirt to fit in.”
He laughed. “So you was forced to be here, to see a band you don’t like and after that you got trapped in an elevator with one of the band members?”
I shrugged. “That’s the story. Nice summary.”
“Why the hell are you still here at two am then?” He said and he raised his eyebrows.
Panic started rising up in me again as I thought about the pursuit I was a part of a few hours ago. Hís horrible face shot through my mind. My head always filled with anger when I thought of him. How could he follow me all the way to a concert? Was he out of his mind?
“That’s none of your business and not part of the deal. I would tell you why I was at the concert and I why I was at your concert and I did.” I said coldly and looked away from him.
“ugh, whatever.” He said and I saw him taking his phone out of his pocket again. “I was just trying to start a friendly conversation, but forget about it.”
I knew it wasn’t his fault, but I just hated talking about what happened and I was afraid that if I had answered nicely, that he would’ve pushed me to talk about it.
At least he was now leaving me alone. Although I kind of regretted blowing him off like that. Who knows how long we would be here and it would certainly go a lot faster if I had someone to talk to.
Actually, I didn’t need him. He was probably an asshole anyway. He looked like an asshole at least. I know, that’s kind of ignorant of me to judge someone of off his appearance, but most of my prejudices about people were always true.
It wasn’t his tattoos or piercings, hell, it was not even the backwards snapback he had on. It was just his attitude, his aura. It annoyed me for some reason. And I could be a real bitch towards people that annoyed me.
Well, actually I was a bitch towards everyone. The people around me just got used to it after a while. And most of the time, I would warm to people if I’d know them for a little while.
The drummer remained silent after that and so did I. The boredom took over me, so I also took out my phone and scrolled through the pictures in my gallery. I swiped through the pictures me and Rosey had taken at the concert today. I smiled as I found a picture we took with a few kids outside in the line. We were all making weird faces at the camera, and I remembered how much fun we had.
“I’m staaaaaarving.” Rosey had pouted grabbing her stomach.
“You should’ve brought food.” I said, rolling my eyes at her. Luckily I was used to not eating for a while. That was mostly because of the horrible food the serve in the cafeteria of the school I worked at. Teachers were not allowed to bring their own food to eat, because they had to set a ‘good’ example for the kids at school and order food in the cafeteria. But I was actually quite sure that you’d die if you’d eat the food they serve there.
“We were late okay? There was no time for food!” She said.
“Late? The show doesn’t start for at least three hours!” I said, shaking my head at her.
Rosey walked over to me and put her arms on my shoulders. “Amara, Amara, Amara.” She said and she shook her head. “You don’t understand, we have to be early so we can stand front row!”
“Why would you want to stand front row?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Because I actually want to see them, duh.” She said like it was an obvious thing.
“Why? Isn’t it about their music?” I asked actually confused. I never really understood fangirls. They would go on and on about how handsome their idol was, but if you’d tell them that they weren’t your type, they claimed that it was about their music and not their appearance.
“It is, but they put up quite a show and I want to see that.” She said and she let go of my shoulders.
Suddenly a pink haired girl popped up in front of us. Her hair reached till her jaw and as she smiled a smiley piercing came into view. She was really short and despite of the black clothes she looked really cute. “I heard you guys saying that you were hungry? We bought MacDonald’s a few minutes ago, but they accidently gave us too much. You want some?” She said and she gestured with her hand to two boys with MacDonald’s bags in their hands. One of them had black hair and a side cut. Thick glasses balanced on his nose. The other one had dirty blond her that reached till his shoulders. A few tattoos were visible underneath his sleeves.
“Yes!” Rosey said and she walked towards the bags of MacDonald’s like they were made of gold.
I was a little doubtful at first, but eventually I decided to trust Rosey in her judgement and followed her to the group of people.
They told us their names while we were eating French fries on the ground of the line. The girl was called Sasha, the guy with the glasses was called Nick and the name of the blond guy was Justin.
The conversation was quickly about music and I tuned out, dreaming off. I realized that I was actually also very hungry and the French fries tasted amazing and warm.
“So what is your favorite song of pierce the veil?” Nick asked and it took me a while to realize that he was talking to me. I looked up confused, shoving a chicken nugget in my mouth.
“Oh, Uhm, I’m not really a fan actually.” I said, smiling uncomfortably. “I’m just here for Rosey.”
“Oh that’s so nice of you!” Sasha shouted. She had a high and loud voice so when she said that a lot of people turned around to look at her. She didn’t seemed to mind it. “You’re not into this type of music at all aren’t you?”
I shook my head. “I’m sorry.” I said and I shrugged.
“It’s okay, girl.” Justin said and he patted my shoulder. “Everyone has their own taste. This type of music is also something you have to get used to at first. When I listened to it for the first time, I hated it too.”
My eyes widened. “Really?”
He nodded. “Damn yeah.”
“Why did you continue listening to it then?” I asked him.
“I was really curious why people liked it so much. I wanted to know why people listened to screaming, electric guitars and emo lyrics. Eventually I got used to the screaming and I just got sucked into it. Now I can’t imagine ever listening to anything else.” He said and he smiled.
The thing I noticed about alternative people was that they were always so passionate about music. Rosey always had the same kind of sparkle in her eyes when she was talking about music. Sometimes I just let her talk about it, just because it was amusing to watch.
We stayed with this group of people until we had to go into the venue. Sometimes other people joined us and started talking to Sasha, Justin or nick. Apparently they knew a lot of people here.
They turned out to be really funny and nice and we gave each other our phone numbers so we could stay in contact after the concert.
An hour before the doors would open, Rosey had the wonderful idea of making selfies. At first we were all serious and just smiled at the camera. That went on until Nick had the wonderful idea of making a duckface at the camera. I think we laughed at the picture for at least an half hour. You should’ve seen his face.
From then on we decided to all make weird faces on the next selfies and they turned out pretty fucking crazy. It was like a contest of who made the weirdest face on the picture. Of course I didn’t win, I was laughing way too hard to think of a proper weird face.
I popped out of my flashback to suddenly remember that I was in an elevator with the asshole drummer. Maybe I should just give him a chance and apologize… If I learned something from standing in line today, it was that you shouldn’t judge someone by their looks. Even not if you were almost always right.
