So Lock and Load
Where were you?
I woke up the next day which, just had to be a Tuesday and decided I really didn’t want to go to school, considering on my first day I only attended two classes before having a mental breakdown, that I’m not even sure I’m completely over.
But of course I had to go. So, sighing as I did, I got ready. I did the normal things I would usually do and after brushing my teeth and putting on a beanie, I walked down the stairs to be greeted by Benny. He didn’t seem really happy, which doesn’t happen often.
“Victor Vincent Fuentes…” he started with a sigh and muttered a few curses in Spanish “I got a call from the school yesterday informing me that you did not attend a majority of your classes. Can you explain this to me?” He said crossing his arms a frown settled on his aged Hispanic face.
“I kind of had another panic attack…” I kept my head down “and I didn’t really get over it until school ended,” I said. His expression softened and he smiled at me.
“Well that’s okay, hopefully today will go a little better” he said patting my shoulder. “ I won’t be home until around 8 tonight so that’s why I won’t be here tonight when you get home
“Alright” I muttered as he walked out the door. I waited patiently downstairs until Mike ran down.
“let’s go” He said, I nodded and we went to school.
Kellin’s POV (yep betcha didn’t see that one comin’)
“dude what the hell!” Matty yelled at me when I got back to our apartment. “Seriously?!! I’ve witnessed you cross a lot of lines in our time here but in the 5o years I’ve known you this is probably the stupidest thing you’ve ever done!!” Matty continued to yell at me while I stood there unaware of how I could respond.
“Number one thing he warned us not to do when we got here was to not talk to them, Kellin” Matty yelled some more.
“But I ruined his life, Matty! I had to!” I yelled back at him.
“You didn’t care when you ruined Jesse’s life or all of those other people’s lives you ruined to get us here” Matty retorted.
“Vic’s different!!” I yelled back.
“How? Because you have a little crush on him doesn’t make him different Kellin” Matty said a little calmer.
“I’m going for a walk” I mumbled and left my ginger friend.
Back to Vic’s POV
Tony and Mike were in a heated argument while I sat in silence at the lunch table. Jaime wasn’t here today so I was a little lonely while Tony and Mike argued if harry potter was better than starwars and they seemed really serious about it, it was funny for a while but then I got bored and started drifting off into my own world of my thoughts.
That Kellin kid. I kept thinking about him. His hair, his face, his eyes, everything about him was amazing. But thinking about it when he looked at me he looked…pained, like he was guilty. I don’t know why, but it doesn’t matter anyway I’ll probably never see him again anyway. I sighed and stood up.
“I’m going to my locker for a bit,” I said, Tony and Mike nodded at me before returning to their argument. I walked out of the lunch room and down the empty hall; I wasn’t really heading for my locker. I just really wanted to get out of the cafeteria. I put my hands in my pocket and wandered around the halls.
“Hey it’s the new kid, I thought it was a girl until I saw his face,” some kids who seemed pretty tough started yelling at me.
“He’s probably an emo” Another one of them said.
“Seriously, ‘an emo’ you say it like he’s some other species, dickheads” Some kid said walking up to me. “they have bricks where their brains are supposed to be, just ignore them” he said grabbing my arm and leading me to a different hallway. He had red hair and was wearing sunglasses, indoors, that was a little weird. But before I could thank the kid he was gone. Again, weird as fuck.
The bell signaling that lunch was over and we had five minutes to get to class rang through the school. I sat through the rest of my classes as they went by as slow as humanely possible.
I watched as the clock ticked by counting the last few seconds of school until my body was flooded by relief when it finally rang. I jumped up from my seat and after pushing my way through the crowd of teens I made my way to the front of the building thankfully in one piece. I finished all of my homework in math where they were working on a project that I wasn’t there so I was excused and I got a free period. I waited for Mike to walk out the door so I could drive us home, but after twenty minutes and not finding him I was getting a little impatient. The parking lot was beginning to get more and more empty as the kids made their way home and I was still standing there waiting for my little brother.
“Why are you still standing here school ended like almost an hour ago,” I turned around as soon as I heard that voice. Kellin just stood there.
“Well I’m waiting for my brother,” I said and then a buzz from my pocket made me jump and I grabbed my phone and it was a text from my brother.
From Mikey: Forgot to tell u me and turtle went to get pizza after school, go home without me
“dipshit,” I muttered under my breathe and typing a reply and looking back up at Kellin.
“Did you find your brother?” He asked with a smirk.
“Yes, I guess I’ll just go home alone. I still can’t believe he had me just stand and wait out here for an hour for nothing. Ass” I said trying to keep myself cool around the beautiful boy that stood before me. God, I’m so pathetic.
“Hey do you maybe want to go get like… uh…I don’t know coffee with me or something? Um, that’s if you have time of course” Kellin somewhat stuttered. I smiled at him and nodded.
“Cool, um… should we walk? Um, I don’t have a car. 16 years old doesn’t have a car, I know I’m a loser,” he said with a giggle I just shook my head.
“No don’t worry, I have one, but we can walk?” I said, he nodded and we started heading towards the nearest starbucks. It was an awkwardly silent walk as we neared the coffee shop with 5 minutes.
We walked into the coffee place and after ordering our coffees we soon found a booth. We sat there in an awkward silence until he spoke up.
“So how’s the family?” He asked sarcastically, we laughed and I answered.
“Actually pretty fucked up,” I answered with my head down. I looked up at him and saw what looked like he was saddened and guilty from my words.
“How so?” he asked.
“My uh… parents passed away and we just moved here because they thought it would make me better even though it was my fault,” WHY ARE YOU TELLING HIM THIS, VIC??!?! I yelled at myself mentally.
“NO, it wasn’t” he said really fast, I looked at him confused. He coughed awkwardly before continued. “I mean, you couldn’t be the reason they you know… things happen for a reason sometimes, but you shouldn’t put yourself down” He said.
“If it was that easy,” I mumbled, he shook his head and he still looked guilty of something.
“So do you play any instruments or anything?” He asked, I was glad for the change of subject.
“Yeah, I actually play the guitar,” I said nervously.
“Cool, I play piano” he said with a smile.
“that’s cool” I said. And after that we had a smooth conversation.
I plopped down on my bed and screamed into my pillow like a little girl. I think I like Kellin, even more than when I saw him and thought he was hot. Shit.
